It was the Mike Locksley offense.  Coach Locksley proved himself to be a master coordinator in his own style.  In this breakdown of the Iron Bowl Game, you will see exactly how Alabama ran such a dominant offense and was so difficult to stop.  Locksley and the Alabama offensive staff show you one theme all coaches should be focusing on... ...how to make your offense look similar, but doing different things each time. In it, plays build one off each other getting more and more complex and harder to read throughout the entire game. RPO's? Got them. You will also see how to use the boundary when you get a numbers advantage.  Watch how Alabama likes to move their inside receivers around with motion and get defensive reactions. They will then run plays off the defenses adjustments for easy gains or TD's.  This course will help you create a balanced and dominant game plan with many great options to choose from in each well designed play. PSSO S4E24: Your Questions: Air Raid Run Game, Coaching in College and Shotgun or Under Center Snaps

What kind of run game philosophy is used with the Air Raid? How can I learn what I need to know to coach in college football? Is your offense suited for shotgun snaps and what kind of Quarterback will it work for? This week’s podcast is about questions I’ve received from coaches who have visited the website. First off is one about what kind of Quarterback is needed to run the Pro Style Spread Offense? I love this question because I categorize your Quarterback skill into three categories. First, you have the Pocket Passer. He can throw the daylights out of the ball, but can’t run worth a crap. Second you have the dual threat Quarterback. This is every Coach’s dream athlete who can run and throw...though many of them are more runners and just get by with enough arm to call themselves dual threat. Lastly you have the Handoff Kings (for lack of a better name). These guys can take a snap but you don’t really want them throwing the ball or running it any more than you have too! There is a place for each of these kinds of Quarterbacks in the Pro Style Spread Offense, because it’s not about the plays, it’s all about the formations you use to fit your personnel. I also will tell you how Peyton Manning supports my belief in the shotgun snap being the preferred vs the under center snap and his proof of a bad weather Super Bowl win is a great example.   I also discuss the latest Washington State Mike Leach offense as it attempted to handle some pretty terrible snow and wind.   So Check out this episode to see exactly what I’m talking about and more.

Series based football is the answer to defenses that want to cheat. What I learned the hard way about core offensive plays. This week’s podcast is all about a lot of mistakes I made in the past trying to figure out an offensive system that would work with the players I had. And I have a few good ones, just not too many. If you’ve ever struggled with how to protect your best player from defenses completely keying on him every single play then you will like hearing this solution that helps you maximize your offensive players skills, even when they aren’t getting the ball. The second part of the podcast I talk about why and how you need to install your core offensive plays so if someone goes down, your entire season isn’t over. In fact...I’ve even had some seasons where we’ve gone to backups and then when we got our guy back we were even stronger than before because we now had depth and options. These 2 Bubble Based Offensive Plays Will Give You Both Yards And Scores This week’s podcast is about a simple system of training a defense to see and react to one thing and then once they do, catching them off guard with another thing. Ever heard of Pavlov’s dog? You know the story where he feeds the dog food every time he rings a bell? Soon enough whenever he rings that bell, Pavlov’s dog starts salivating even before the food is brought out. These two plays do the same thing. Get defenses to think they know what’s coming until it’s too late. And even after they see it, they now know it might now be true so the get a whole lot less aggressive on the first play and you can make them pick their poison. Sadly, we too often go back to running the drills we did back in the good old days just because we think it worked then, it should work now. It’s a great practice as a coach to get your mind thinking about how you want to string plays together. It’s one thing to look at a defense and say this or that will work but it’s another to set up a sequence of calls that controls a defense or sets up future plays to be highly effective based on what teams have seen from you before. What are the basics of Cover 4? This one play is the best way to take a shot against it.   This episode marks the fourth episode of our spread offense passing series where am breaking down different coverages and their individual strengths and weaknesses. This week is Cover 4 which is a great coverage for defenses but in my opinion is one of the most difficult for coaches to teach. Cover 4 can be attacked on the edges but watch out for those squatting Safeties! True cover 4 is a match up coverage like Cover 2 which is why it can be difficult to throw against. Fortunately there are some good options - especially a Shot pass I picked up from Tom Herman that I think you will love! What are the basics of Cover 3? How should you attack it’s weaknesses? This episode marks the third episode of our spread offense passing series where am breaking down different coverages and their individual strengths and weaknesses. This week is Cover 3 which is one of the easiest coverages to run but unless you really know what your doing, it’s also the easiest in my opinion to beat with the pass. I love attacking Cover 3 because my absolute favorite pass concepts are perfect for it. You can’t miss the opportunity to run All-Verts against it as well as the standard Curl Route which are both solid Air Raid Concepts. Much of your quick game is also going to be good against it because of the soft coverage of the corners in the flats and the openings in the seams. If you see a team running true Cover 3 get excited because there are some golden opportunities in the passing game! What are the basics of Cover 2? How should you attack it’s weaknesses? This episode marks the second episode of a series where I will be breaking down different coverages and their individual strengths and weaknesses. This week is Cover 2.  Cover 2 is one of my favorite coverages to coach defensively because it is so disruptive to receivers.   When you are attacking it you need to understand that how the safeties play it and how well the Linebackers and Corners redirect tells you how easy it will be to throw against. When you run against it there are some additional challenges that I discuss. A good Cover 2 can be very challenging but there are answers and things you can do to test safeties and corners.

How to beat Cover 1 Man Free. How to know the weaknesses to attack and strengths to avoid. This episode marks the first episode of a series where I will be breaking down different coverages and their individual strengths and weaknesses. This week is Cover 1 or Man Free. It’s really a simple coverage that a lot of teams run when they want to bring pressure with 5 or 6 defenders. I’ve also seen coaches run it when they have a tremendous athlete that they let roam in the Free Safety spot who can play run or pass and cause all sorts of trouble if you don’t have answers. By identifying the techniques and rules of this coverage you can find out which plays will work best against it. I suggest a number of pass plays that I have found successful that include Y Stick, Y Mesh, Shallow Cross and All Verts. These are all Air Raid concepts that are great to run.

Free Download: https://prostylespreadoffense.com/2018/02/06/use-free-football-call-sheet-practice-scripts-arm-band-template/  When you are getting your offense ready to roll this season it’s easy to start adding things to the playbook that you want to do. But how much should you be doing? And if you put too much stuff in you will probably confuse your players - especially if they are young and inexperienced.  Don’t make the mistake of putting in too much that you won’t be using or isn’t really necessary because every play you are practicing should have a purpose. I’ll talk about what that purpose is and how you can make sure your first weeks of practice are the most efficient they have ever been.

Why you need constraints with your Bubble Screen Package. How to know which defensive looks you should never be throwing a Bubble Screen against. FREE DOWNLOAD: 5 Steps to an Awesome Bubble Screen Package Every good spread offense has a screen package that gets the ball outside, but few teams really maximize the potential of this screen package with the right constraints. You need to have something to throw if the Linebackers cheat and something to throw if the Safeties or Corners cheat. When you do, then you score fast and also teach defenses not to cheat, which only makes your screen package better. There are also certain defensive looks that coaches should not be trying to throw bubble screens into. I’ll explain which looks these are and the adjustment you can make to get a better look to throw the bubble screen even when the defense tries to take it away. When you get this right your playcalling becomes a non-issue because it’s simple to make the right call every time.
