And thus we come once again to a moment of pause in our madcap readings, as winter's chill settles over the land (in this bit of the world, anyway). We may have an episode or three up our sleeves in the coming weeks, but assume that things will be fairly quiet until about mid-February—so we hope this report on the state of the podcast will tide you over until then. The usual episode data, some reflections on accomplishments from 2025, and fervent plans for Season Five(!) make up the core of our discussion, but as with all things of the Dreaming, you never quite know where the discussion will lead you... Paul Mariani has spent fifty years writing poetry that celebrates the vibrant sacramentality of life in the twilight of Modernity, and writing the lives of some of our greatest modern poets. In this interview, Paul reflects on his vocation as poet, scholar, and biographer, drawing especially from his most recent books of poetry—All That Will Be New (Slant, 2022) and Ordinary Time (Slant, 2020)—and his prose work, The Mystery of It All (Paraclete Press, 2019). Our conversation explores Paul's Catholic upbringing and scholarly formation, the poets who have shaped his imagination—most notably Gerard Manley Hopkins—the vocation of the Catholic poet, and what it means to live deeply as a person of wonder and imagination. Paul Mariani is University Professor Emeritus at Boston College. Nathan H. Phillips is a podcast host on the New Books Network and lives in South Bend, Indiana. Learn more about your ad choices. Send us a textDrawing from her extensive experience as a special education teacher, Dr. Thomas explains that effective behavior support isn't about punishment—it's about setting clear, understandable expectations that children can meet. “I've got to be able to see it and count it,” she emphasizes, pointing out that vague instructions like “be respectful” don't provide children with the specific guidance they need to succeed.Instead, she offers practical tools like the SLANT method for active listening—Sit tall, Lean forward, Acknowledge the speaker, Nod, Track the speaker—to demonstrate how breaking behaviors into observable, measurable actions creates a strong foundation for lifelong success.Want to transform how you support your child's behavior at home and in school?Tune in now for powerful insights that can shift your parenting approach and help your child build essential life skills. Today's guest is writer/director Natalia Leite. This director is one of the bravest filmmakers I've ever met. Her work on the VICE documentary ‘Life as a Truck-Stop Stripper was breathtaking. Not only did she direct the piece but one of the subjects in the film as well. Take a look below at her amazing work.Everyone knows what charming places strip clubs can be, but perhaps there is no club so charming as one in Moriarty, New Mexico—a truck stop with taxidermy and the bras of former employees on the walls, a few poles, a shitload of black light, and plenty of titties. Never mind that The Ultimate Strip Club List website describes it as the place “where strippers go to die.” Natalia Leite and Alexandra Roxo go Gonzo as they pose as strippers and experience something that can be best described as a Marina Abramovic performance crossed with a bizarro episode of Wife Swap directed by David Lynch's daughters, set in the type of place where a one-eyed guy who shot himself in the head dispenses meditation advice to two naked women.Natalia Leiteis a Brazilian writer/director. Her work has been described as having “a bracing, assertive style” (Variety), “emotional intelligence and sensitivity” (LA Times), and as “cementing the reign over highly stylized, sexually progressive dramas” (Slant). Her feature film “M.F.A.”, a psychological thriller centered around rape crimes in a university, premiered at SXSW 2017 and was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize. The film stars Francesca Eastwood and was released in theaters October 2017. Her feature film debut, “Bare,” premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2015, starring Dianna Agron. The film was released by IFC Films and Paramount Pictures. Natalia has created original content for Vice Media, most notably the provocative Vice show “Every Woman” which has garnered over 11 million views. She co-created and starred in the series “Be Here Nowish,” and has directed and shot documentaries internationally.Natalia is a contributing writer for Talk House and has been a featured speaker for NY Women In Film & Television, Apple Store Talks, IFP Filmmaker Conference, and numerous Universities. She also directs branded content for Vans, The North Face, Nasty Gal, and other companies. She recently signed with bicoastal production company Humble, her first commercial representation, and directs branded content for Vans, The North Face, and other companies.Enjoy my conversation with Natalia Leite.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bulletproof-screenwriting-podcast--2881148/support.

The pod team is traveling this week, so we invite you to travel back to a great episode from our previous season. We'll be back with new episodes in the New Year — how fitting! Wishing you all a beautiful close to 2024. Drawing from her decade-long career in Silicon Valley, Jamie Li tells Jared about writing tech satire that struck her MFA colleagues as far-fetched and her tech friends as totally realistic. Plus, Jamie talks about how her background as a Chinese immigrant and the model minority myth shape her interest in writing about in-group/out-group behaviors, and her attraction to VCFA's emphasis on experimental and cross-genre writing. Jamie Li is a Southern California-based fiction writer and product marketer. She holds a BA from Dartmouth College and is pursuing her MFA at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her writing has been recognized in the New York Times and published in Slant'd Magazine, Mangoprism, and elsewhere. She writes the Creative Juice newsletter and exists online on jamieli.co or IG @j.a.m.i.e.l.i. MFA Writers is hosted by Jared McCormack and produced by Jared McCormack and Hanamori Skoblow. Welcome back lovers of all things spooky and scary, to another episode of Surviving the Horror! Released in March 2012 and developed by Slant 6 in just one year's time, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is a much maligned and critiqued entry in the long standing survival horror franchise. Criticized for it's lack of polish, and disregard for the pillars of what makes up a classic Resident Evil title, Operation Raccoon City is certainly the black ship of the family. In fact, it seems that almost every time that Capcom tries to do something different in the multiplayer space with Resident Evil, the title is met with considerable challenges and fan feedback. Operation Raccoon City came from a different era of Capcom, one that hadn't seen the benefits of multiple successful titles released back to back as we've seen recently with the REmake treatments and things like Resident Evil Village. Indeed, as relayed by ORC's director Andrew Santos, Capcom was chasing a different crowd in 2012, the Call of Duty gamer. Releasing the same year as Resident Evil 6, Operation Raccoon City represented an attempt to tell a different kind of story in the Resident Evil universe, with new characters that could expand on the lore and events of the first few games. Was this attempt successful though? Well, that's a tough question to answer. Colin and Josh do their best to parse through the mechanics, story, design, and development of this misunderstood Resident Evil title. When considering the truncated development, and some of the clear love and attention to detail that went in to this title, perhaps some of the initial reactions and reviews were too harsh on the game. Come along with us on a journey through a chaotic warzone, littered with BOWs, waring political factions, and a sinister mega corporation hell bent on cleaning up any evidence of their involvement. It may not be the best Resident Evil title, but we think you'll have plenty of fun along the way. Thank you for listening, and enjoy! We will be back next month with September's game, Still Wakes the Deep!
