Full participation in the new covenant is for baptized members only. It is a reminder of what Christ has done for you through His sacrifice…. and its also a reminder that you belong. And for those not yet baptized Passover continues to stand as a call to action… a call to enter into a relationship of belonging with the Father and the Son.
This message will address how we can repurpose depression, sorrow, and emotional pain through the discerning power of the holy spirit... and use it as a means to grow in spirit. Depression is a fact of life, plenty of people go through it, God made it, so it must serve a purpose. Let's talk about that! Get a FREE copy of our eBook "What Really Happens After Death?" Jesus' judges didn't want to consider the truth. They knew He had performed miracles, they knew He had raised Lazarus (in fact that was event that made them decide He must die), they knew large group of armed men had fallen to the ground at the power of His voice when He was arrested, they knew He had compassionately reattached Malchus's ear, they knew they could find no credible witness against Him of any sin. But they wanted Him gone and out of their lives… and they rejected truth. Get a FREE copy of our eBook "What Really Happens After Death?" If the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom of God is a signature characteristic of the Church of God... which we can use to help identify God's Church in a confusing sea of possibilities... we need to have a good biblical definition of this "kingdom of God". Many people think of the concept of clean versus unclean as a relic of the old covenant which is no longer relevant. But, considering some things to be clean and some unclean... some things common and some things holy is very much a part of new covenant teaching and understanding. Today we are going to look into the new covenant perspective on clean versus unclean using the vision Peter experienced in Joppa as our starting point. Some say we can ignore any OT commandments, rules, or requirements previously issued by YHWH unless they are reiterated in the new testament. We (UCG) do not agree with, or use, this formula. But, since it is so popular we are willing to address certain points of God's instruction for living using these humanly devised standards. Today, let's discuss the case for tithing in the new covenant. Get a FREE copy of our eBook "What Really Happens After Death?" Among the multiple defining characteristics of the Church of God is the ongoing work of the Church in preaching the “gospel of the Kingdom of God”. It's a phrase that means many things to many people. So, we are going to look into what preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God means. Because if we accept that it can mean many things to many people then it doesn't belong in our list of identifying features of the Church of God. We don't know a lot of details about Jesus growing up. But, today we are going to look at what we do know. This will serve as a conclusion to the previous two messages about Jesus' conception and birth. Of all the things that could have been said about Jesus as a pre-teen, or teen... we are only told what is most important... He actively sought out understanding of God in His youth. The bible is consistent on this point: seek God while you are young. Get a FREE copy of our eBook "What Really Happens After Death?" The circumstances of Jesus' birth tell us about how God sees life. Humanly devised systems of status, power, and wealth mean nothing to God. So we should ask, why do they mean so much to us? God has a plan for you... salvation from death... resurrection... placement within His family... participation in the universal rule of God. And, it is not based on your material achievements, status, or wealth. A better picture of God's life priorities is found in Jesus' birth in the flesh. Nobody in this world, but set apart, to serve God's purpose, to give Himself as a sacrifice to God, and to rise up to everlasting life. With that in mind, let's review the birth of Jesus and consider the different reactions it produced in those who were on the scene. Today, we expect and anticipate an answer to every limitation or problem to come through technology. Our idolatrous faith in technology even extends into the realm of life after death. What human scientists have started to conceptualize God has been talking about from the beginning. God says: I can do this. I proved it through the resurrection of my son Jesus (witnessed and explained in my bible).
In May 2023, archaeologist Scott Stipling published his discovery of an altar on Mount Ebal which proves to be the very one mentioned in Deuteronomy 27 and Joshua 8. Within the covenant there were blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. This is the curse of the law Paul referenced in Galatians 3:10. What does the ceremony of blessing and cursing teach us today? Get a FREE copy of our eBook "What Really Happens After Death?" The bible is filled with: prophecy, history, miracles, theology, discussions of God's nature. futurism etc. All these various types of instruction are built upon (or revolve around) an ethical core. That core is based on concepts like equal justice, honesty, loyalty, non-violence, avoiding destructive thought patterns. Simple (not simplistic) concepts that don't require a Phd to learn... or teach... and all the prophecy, history, miracles etc. serve the purpose of pointing us back to this ethical core. Today, I would like to use the virtue list of 2 Peter to see how the bible's many roads lead back to the ethical core of moral behavior. Today, we'll look at one of God's laws about debt and forgiveness and consider its practical value and the spiritual lesson it contains. Get a FREE copy of our eBook "What Really Happens After Death?" Full details are at this link: http://eepurl.com/ddB0yb Forgiveness is part of putting on the mind of God. Generosity is closely related to forgiveness. It is easy to look at someone in need/trial/trouble and say... they deserve what get... its their own fault... if they'd only made the right choices [like me] they wouldn't be in the state they are in... they chose the easy was and now they are paying for it. And in some cases that's true. To extend generosity to people like this is to forgive their mistakes and help them. If not for God's forgiveness... and generosity... you would not be here. You would have any hope or expectation of everlasting life. You would be like a caged criminal sentenced to death, awaiting our final execution. But, He forgave… and He gave His only begotten Son to set you free from your debt to sin. From one screw up to another... I'm glad God is forgiving. Jude's letter warns the Church about some people who were part of the Church but were teaching and promoting false ideas that had the potential to lead a lot of people astray. These false teachers questioned the reality of permanent destruction for those who disobeyed God. They also twisted the grace, mercy and patience of God such that it became a green light for all sorts of immorality. I covered how to identify and combat false ideas like these in a previous message I gave on “the faith once delivered”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNFmbACaMb4 Today we will look at Jude's warnings from another angle: identifying the characteristics of those who lead others into sin and error. The first fruits offerings upon which the day of Pentecost is established reflect a biblical principle in which a small portion of a very large crop is presented before God. This tiny portion offered has a sanctifying effect upon the whole. Smallness is built into the symbolism of the first fruits! God chooses to work with only a small portion now and leaves the rest for later. God's work of spiritual creation is rolled out in stages. It starts small... then grows bigger. In this way God distributes the work of proclamation and instruction among human beings. God likes to get others involved. Get a FREE copy of our eBook "What Really Happens After Death?" We can detect the false from the true by comparing it with the written word... ie. the faith once delivered. We can also tell what is false from the behavior it produces. Because we have this deposit of truth delivered to us from God we are warned of certain behaviors (Jude uses the example of sexual immorality) which are considered "bad fruit". The bible indicates that offering salvation to all human beings comes in stages 1 Corinthians 15:22-26. ALL will be made alive but each in turn: First - Christ is raised from the dead to eternal life Then - those who are His followers are raised to eternal life at Christ's return Then - "the end" - those who have never become followers of Christ, or even had the opportunity to do so will be raised and enter into a period of judgment. "the end" marks a momentous time which, when finished, will remove death from the human experience forever. Get a FREE copy of our eBook "What Really Happens After Death?" Pharaoh had been warned that this confrontation would lead all the way up to the death of every Egyptian firstborn son... unless he humbled himself and submitted to YHWH. Each of the successive plagues upon Egypt would be an increasingly intense warning of impending death.
The time has come for Moses to return to Egypt. God intended for Moses to have face to face interaction with Pharaoh. What's really going on is that through Moses God would have His demand delivered directly to the man at the top. But God warned Moses that Pharaoh would refuse to listen. Jesus gave us the same warning, “if they reject me, they will reject you", "you will be persecuted for teaching what I tell you".https://ucgraleigh.blogspot.com/2024/03/moses-returns-to-egypt.html

Exodus is part of an unfolding story. It's a continuation of the Genesis account of Abraham's family. But their history is also your history.
Sound doctrines and beliefs must be based on the word of God... absorbing the content... teaching it to others... supporting those who teach... supporting the authority that is behind it... intellectually... administratively... emotionally... financially... and spiritually. If we do this in the proper balance of word, authority, and spirit we will be growing in grace and knowledge.
Jonah's story challenges assumptions. Assumptions about what it means to be “chosen”… not a free ticket but a responsibility. Assumptions about the power of human freedom within the framework of prophecy and the will of God. The account we have of Jonah sticks out as very unique within the 12 minor prophets. Putting Jonah among the 12 minor prophets asks us to consider it in relation to those books and their message. The story of Jonah questions overly simplistic ideas some people, may have about prophecy. Placement among the 12 minor prophets offers a thoughtful antidote to false assumptions held by people in 500 B.C. … the 1st century A.D. … even 2024 A.D.l Particularism - the idea that God only cares about the people of Israel [in our day we might apply it to the Church of God]. l Determinism/Fatalism - the idea that outcomes cannot change. Which can lead to pessimism and apathy about the future.
Jonah 1:1 this verse allows us to find Jonah in 1 Kings 14:23-25. He came from a town in northern Israel on the south coast of the sea of Galilee near Nazareth. He appears to be a part of the company of prophets surrounding the king of the norther tribes… Jeroboam II. The time frame would be 780 BC.... about 50 years before northern Israel would fall to the Assyrians. Why was Jonah giving Jeroboam II prophecies of victories at the same time Amos and Hosea were dishing out such hard criticism?
How we dress (especially for special occasions) comes and goes as the decades and centuries roll by. Given enough time jackets and ties will disappear… but the principle of dressing for the occasion will not.
Why Proper Teaching About the Holy Spirit MattersTeaching the holy spirit is a third person in a trinity causes confusion. What the bible actually reveals is a better, and more functional, explanation about how God is at work within you… of how you can and will be at one with God… how you can become like Him in mind and character… and how you can enter into the universe ruling God family. The trinity teaching makes God more remote, self contained, and strange than actual scriptural teaching. The scriptural way in which God presents Himself is as a family. A family which achieves oneness through a unity of mind, will and purpose. A family that you can be part of… but if you do want to be part of it you have to change the way you think and behave. You can join a family… you cannot join a trinity. The roles of Father and Son clearly present God as a family. The inclusion of a holy spirit a third divine person doesn't fit... what is it? An eccentric uncle? A cousin? No, the holy spirit is not presented as part of any recognizable family member. The family pattern also portrays the importance of authority and submission as the means whereby peace and harmony will be achieved (now and in eternity). The Father and the Son are easily understandable pictures of authority and submission balanced with love and respectIncluding the Holy Spirit as a third person gets us off track. Not only does it not have a clear place in any family pattern... it does not fit any recognizable pattern of authority or submission.
Knowing & Understanding GodJeremiah 9:23-24 God wants us to know and understand Him... and He wants us to then pattern our lives after what we know. Because that is how we will get joy and pleasure from the gift of eternal life. We know and understand Him through 1) what He does (hesed, exercises kindness, grace, mercy) and 2) what He says (guidelines for justice and righteousness). What He Does: the record of Israel's history... is there to show YHWH in action… ready to bless with every good thing, but also ready to judge righteousness and justice, but with mercy. The Psalms & Prophets could be seen as reflections on what we come to know about God through His actions. What He Says: God has given us a foundation of laws, statutes, and behavioral case studies. These are God's ideals for human interaction. Then… God revealed Himself to us even more powerfully through the life and ministry of Jesus. God became a human being so that we might know God better (and visa versa). The TrinityHowever, most professing Christians (Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox) insist that God must be understood in a very different manner... the trinity.

Get a FREE copy of our eBook "What Really Happens After Death?" Full details are at this link: http://eepurl.com/ddB0yb The Day of Atonement Has Meaning For Our Time Hebrew 9:8-10 - one of the features of the day of atonement is: our present separation from God... lost at Eden... cast out from His presence… the way back guarded by angels with flaming swords... as pictured on the veil used in the temple. The day of Atonement was a symbolic picture of the coming restoration of our direct relationship with God... but it was only a symbol. The reality of re-establishing that direct relationship would only come to pass through Jesus Christ. The offerings of Leviticus 16 are no longer a part of our observance of the day of Atonement. Under the new covenant they have been replaced by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ… who is also now acts as the high priest. The symbols and outward observance didn't have the power to transform people from within... they could not cleanse our conscience. But Christ can. Daniel 10-12 The Final Vision: King of the North and the King of the SouthThis is the longest and most detailed of the visions given to Daniel. The focus of the vision is the person who will rise up at the end time... a.k.a. the man of lawlessness, the anti-Christ, the beast. The coming of this person is one of the key pieces of information Jesus gave His followers in answer to their question "what will be the sign of your return?" ... the one who invades Jerusalem and sets up the abomination of desolation. Here is a link to the handout used in the message - https://www.ucg.org/system/storage/serve/1524411/daniel_11_verse_details.pdf
