A sermon delivered by C.H. Spurgeon, Lord's day morning, February 8th 1857.Spurgeon was very gifted in exposing human weakness, and in pleading with sinners and saints. Here he begs us to get rid of everything that offends God, however hidden from others our sins may be. His expressions, when denouncing hypocrisy, are among the strongest which he ever uttered (14:57ff). Surely if everyone followed his advice here, our souls would flourish as they have ever done before.Read by: Gavin Childress

Psalm 51 was David's Psalm of repentance after he had sinned against God in committing adultery with Bathsheba, and then in having her husband Uriah killed on the battlefield. Psalm 32, was David's Psalm of restoration and instruction, in it he expressed blessedness and happiness for being forgiven for his sins, which he acknowledged, repented of, and confessed to his God!
Psalm 19:11-14
In May 2023, archaeologist Scott Stipling published his discovery of an altar on Mount Ebal which proves to be the very one mentioned in Deuteronomy 27 and Joshua 8. Within the covenant there were blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. This is the curse of the law Paul referenced in Galatians 3:10. Tonight we continue a supplemental study on the Sixth Petition of the Lord's Prayer with the Puritan John Whitlock's sermons through Psalm 18-23 in the book, -The Great Duty of Keeping Ourselves from Iniquity,- recently reprinted by Dr. Don Kistler -of our own RPCGA- and his Northampton Press. We now finish studying the sixth chapter, -The Application of the Doctrine,- with self -examination- and self -exhortation- and final 5-10 signs to search and single out special sins in order to sever them in sanctification- 5- a deliberate unwillingness to have it discovered, reproved, and spoken against- 6- it is a master sin that makes all other sins stoop and bow to it and subserve as means to feed and maintain it- 7- all your duties are made subservient to- 8- it proves too hard for all means of mortification- 9- one will not part with it for Christ and all His gracious Gospel appeals- 10- it prevails most frequently before, in, and after conversing with God's ordinances and holy duties. We also studied the pastoral disclaimer and distinction of chapter 7, -The Difference Between a Reigning Sin and a Tyrannizing Corruption,- for -some doubting Christians.-

Williams Jr., a highly decorated Marine Corps pilot who was killed while on active duty when she was two months old. Her mother, Lee (née McKnight) Williams (1925-2014), remarried, to Dr. Donald I. "Don" Purcell, a U.S. Navy doctor assigned to the Marine Corps. Lee Purcell has a younger sister, Paige Wooldridge. She graduated from Paragould High School in 1965 and briefly attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri as a dance and theatre student until she was expelled. After being expelled[why?] from Stephens College, Purcell[8] arrived in California in 1967 and studied acting. Casting off her southern accent was another goal she successfully worked on. Purcell supported herself by working in commercials[11] and selling clothes at a disco. In 1969, Purcell was personally chosen for her first feature film by Steve McQueen in his company's production of Adam at Six A.M., co-starring Michael Douglas. Asked to explain why he picked Purcell among nearly 500 other available actresses, McQueen said, "It wasn't easy. We kept narrowing down the field over a period of weeks until it came to giving screen tests to six of them. All of them were good, but Lee seemed to jump right out of the screen." Purcell at the 1994 Emmy Awards Her television work included roles as Billie Dove and Olivia de Havilland in two biopic TV movies: The Amazing Howard Hughes (1977) and My Wicked, Wicked Ways: The Legend of Errol Flynn (1985). She was nominated for two Emmy Awards. In 1991, she was nominated as Outstanding Lead Actress for Long Road Home and in 1994 as Outstanding Supporting Actress for Secret Sins of the Father. She was co-producer, and starred in the 1998 low-budget cable-TV movie Malaika (alternate title Tons of Trouble). Purcell's film career wound down in 1983 and she has only had five motion picture credits since, the last in 2015. She has continued to do television projects. She also continues to stay active by performing narrations of poetry and fiction in front of live audiences. Find out more at https://still-toking-with.pinecast.co

All of us have secrets we wish weren't true. Things in our lives that we don't like or with we didn't feel, but we do. When in that position, shame can easily find its way into our hearts, with tempts us to hide and hiding leads to mental distress. While the church is intended to be the safest place to talk about the shameful parts of ourselves, all too often people don't feel free to be honest. In this episode, I talk with my friend Brit, who held many secrets from herself and others for years. Certain aspects of herself that she didn't like - having an affair, living with an eating disorder for over a decade and withholding the fact that she is attracted to both genders. When life caught up to her, she was placed in a position to come clean, and she did. The reward and freedom she experienced far outweighed the darkness of concealing her secrets. Her story is one of courage and honesty and I believe her sharing the truth of her life will invite you into the same. One spiritual victory does not guarantee another. Israel's great victory at Jericho was followed by a humiliating defeat. The God of Israel did not fail; the people failed. Secret sinner, what will then become of thee- Go out of this place unmasked- go out to examine thyself, go out to bend thy knee, go out to weep, go out to pray. God give thee grace to believe- And oh, how sweet and pleasant the thought, that this day sinners have fled to Christ, and men have been born again to Jesus- Brethren, ere I finish, I repeat the words at which so many have caviled- it is now, or never, it is turn or burn. Solemnly in God's sight I say it- if it be not God's truth I must answer for it in the great day of account.
This week's episode is a little bit more sensitive in nature. We're going to talk about something that I don't think is talked much about, but is something that many teen girls struggle with today…and even if you honestly don't feel like you fit into this category, chances are, you will have a friend that you can help shine the light of Jesus on while pointing her in the right direction. This week and next week, we're going to be talking about secret sins…how to make sure we don't find ourselves in a place where we are hiding secret sins…and if there are any secret sins that we have in our lives, how we can overcome them, so we don't go back there again. I read a statistic recently that said 70% of teens hide their online activity from their parents. Something that I often tell teens is…even if you honestly aren't doing something wrong, if you feel you need to hide something from your parents, it's in that moment of hiding that you are stepping into sin. Proverbs 28:13 tells us that if we hide our sins, we will not succeed…they will be found out. However, if we confess them and reject them, we may get in trouble, but we will have mercy. If you find that you're in a place where you know that you are hiding secret sins and you feel so guilty or ashamed about it. There is hope for you. There is healing for you. There is freedom for you. Even if you're pretty sure that those secret sins have turned into secret addictions. Check out today's episode of the UncommonTEEN podcast to learn more about how to overcome secret sins and what you can do today to make sure you don't fall back into those secret sins again.Connect with Us!IG: uncommon.teenhttps://www.uncommonteen.comDownload the UncommonTEEN App today!
