In the early 1960s, more than 14,000 unaccompanied children, aged from 4 to 16 years old, were brought from Cuba to Miami as a part of an agreement between the U.S. State Department and Catholic Charities of Miami to help the children of those fighting against Fidel Castro's growing power and control in Cuba. Eventually, the agreement was expanded to include all Cuban families that wanted to flee from the regime. Enrique “Ric” Prado was one of these children, arriving in the U.S. at only 10 years old.
