He is formally the Chief Growth Officer (CGO) of Balanced Health Botanicals (BHB) in Denver, CO which he successfully exited in 2021. Chris received his Bachelor's degree in Economics from the College of William and Mary. He is active in the community and has held a variety of board seats at institutions like the Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) and the Irvine Public Schools Foundation (IPSF). This week on the podcast I'm excited to be joined by Hampus Jakobsson, his career to discover climate-tech has been a wild ride so far and he has a great knack for story-telling, so I'm sure you're going to enjoy this one. Hampus is based in Sweden, and he started out as an entrepreneur, bouncing from Sony-Ericsson to Blackberry, building software in the early days of mobile phones, and as he grew to appreciate the incredible power of capital to make big changes in the world, he was slowly drawn to investing. He resisted opportunities to switch to VC for a long time, but eventually he shifted his views, and he ended up working with some of Europe's most progressive VCs, but in 2019, when he suggested they explore climate-tech investing, they shook their heads, despite having invested in a swag of wildly innovative startups, they couldn't get their heads around the idea of investing in climate. Since then, things have changed dramatically, and climate-tech has emerged as one of the fastest growing themes in early-stage investing. Hampus Jakobsson went on to launch his own VC fund, it's called Pale Blue Dot, and has so far invested in some 40 startups, across a range of themes and business models. In this episode Hampus is really generous with his stories and his insights. He explains his methodology and process for identifying those outlier founders that have, not only an audacious business idea to change the world, but also, the tenacity and grit to push past the obstacles and execute on it. Neil is a renowned percussionist, accomplished music educator, imaginative product innovator, and successful entrepreneur. He is the founder and president of Grover Pro Percussion Inc., a market leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of world-class percussion instruments.  At the young age of 23, Neil was appointed Principal Percussionist of the Opera Company of Boston, a position he held for seven seasons.  As his career progressed, he found himself in demand for all musical genres, including symphony, chamber music, ballet, opera, and commercial recordings.  Highlights of his collaborations include the Royal Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Music from Marlboro, Indianapolis Symphony, Boston Musica Viva, and the Empire Brass. He was chosen to record the percussion tracks for Phillip Glass' film soundtrack for Mishima. In addition, Neil appears as a Boston Pops percussionist in the hit movie Blown Away, starring Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones.  He has toured with Music From Marlboro, Boston Symphony, Henry Mancini, Boston Symphony Chamber Players, and the Broadway production of The Pirates of Penzance.  Since 1977, he has performed, recorded, and toured with the world-famous Boston Pops, where he has made music under the batons of Maestros Arthur Fiedler, John Williams, and Keith Lockhart.  Having performed regularly in the percussion section of the Boston Symphony for over 35 years, he has worked with Maestros Seiji Ozawa, James Levine, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Colin Davis, Charles Dutoit, Colin Davis, Neemi Jaarvi, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Bernard Haitink. It is noteworthy that Neil has performed in over 1,500 concerts as a percussionist with the BSO & Boston Pops. Neil's percussive talents have been heard by thousands at renowned venues, such as Boston's Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall, Chicago's Orchestra Hall, and festivals at Tanglewood, Hollywood Bowl, Wolf Trap, Blossom, and Ravinia.  In addition, he has performed for millions of listeners through television and radio broadcasts on the NBC, CBS, NHK, PBS, A&E and NPR networks.  At the request of composer John Williams, Neil joined the multi-media musical extravaganza, “Star Wars in Concert”, serving as Principal Percussionist on two legs of their North American Tour.   Neil Grover has written/co-authored five publications: Four Mallet Primer, Four Mallet Fundamentals, Art of Triangle & Tambourine Playing, Percussionist's Cookbook, and The Art of Percussion Playing, all published by Meredith Music.  Neil's innovative designs and cutting edge manufacturing techniques have set a new standard for the ergonometric functionality of modern day percussion instruments. Dionne Woods talks with Sarah Berry on the Paint Talks Podcast. Sarah is an entrepreneur, CEO, volunteer, and a support staff to her husband's small business. But those are her official titles. The most important names she goes by are “mom, wife, daughter, sister," and "friend.” The most challenging, yet rewarding, capacity she has worked in, (just behind motherhood!), has been that of self-employment. Although she has had an entrepreneurial “spark” most of her life, she officially started her small business journey in January 2014, with absolutely no clue what she was doing! Practically by accident, she turned a recipe of elbow grease, blind faith, and a lot of late-night coffee-infused work sessions, into a thriving creative business. Though the roots of her business began with creating handmade goods, encouraging people to finally take action on the little voice that has been nudging them to “do something more,” is what really gets her going! There is a need for what we ALL have to offer, and in helping people bring a little beauty and creativity back into their lives, she hopes to inspire others to finally take the leap on their own dreams!
