Nelle Torri intorno al perimetro vivono le caste privilegiate che detengono un potere sempre più labile e violento, condannato a estinguersi dall'incapacità maschile di riprodursi. Solo nella Spianata i bambini continuano a nascere, dilemma a cui il Potere ha cercato e cerca soluzioni violente e inefficaci. Zora, una giovane donna, raccoglie memorie e inventa storie per salvare vite. E intanto sogna di fuggire dalla città. Fuori dalla città è una zona di foreste e monti. Le condizioni climatiche sono critiche ma non come a Taursiti, e dopo i disastri provocati dall'uomo la vita sta riguadagnando i propri spazi. In questo ambiente difficile ma ricco di possibilità, abitato da animali e misteriose presenze si incrociano destini e ostinate resistenze.Maristella Lippolis ha esordito nella narrativa pubblicando racconti sulla rivista «Tuttestorie», diretta da Maria Rosa Cutrufelli.
