Před sto lety – 3. února 1926 – byl přijat zákon o existenci československého jazyka, který platil až do roku 1948, kdy se s odsunem Němců změnilo národnostní složení po druhé světové válce obnoveného Československa a už nebylo potřeba tuto zjevnou politickou obezličku v zákonu mít. Původně to ale měl být štít, aby si Němci nemohli sáhnout na správu nového státu a aby ten mohl bezpečně fungovat. Přesto se do zákona dostal až osm let po vzniku státu. O tom všem a jazykových vztazích Čechů ke Slovákům hovoří v další epizodě svého sourozeneckého podcastu Hej, Slované! bratři Jakub a Lukáš Novosadovi.V 19. století se někteří Češi bránili tomu, aby byla ustavena samostatná slovenština, už tehdy trvrdili, že takový krok by znamenal oslabení, protože další štěpení slovanského živlu mezi Němci (a Maďary). Slováci se však nedali a prosadili si svou, protože se vždycky vnímali i jazykově jinak než jako „malí Češi“. Ostatně český problém dodnes je, že Slovensko vnímáme jako malé Česko – proto jsme tuto zemi nikdy pořádně nepochopili. Zároveň se nikdy do českého povědomí pořádně nepropsala historická zkušenost s tím, jak jsme pomáhali Slovákům stavět se po vzniku ČSR na vlastní nohy, a to i jazykově, a nenaučili jsme se porozumět tomu, jak důležité pro přežití slovenštiny bylo, že republikánské české dějiny jsou dějiny jazykové velkorysosti, nikoli usurpování si řečí jiných. Slovensko se vyvíjelo jazykově správně po celou dobu, což nebylo v Evropě ve vícenárodních státech obvyklé.O tom je první půle epizody, druhá je mimo jiné o tom, zda je vlastně nějaký rozdíl mezi obraty „československý jazyk“ a „českoslovenština“. Patrně ano – zatímco první skutečně funguje historiky jako popis nějakého dobového myšlenkového proudu, druhý používáme jako výra pro směs obou řečí, kterou používají ti, kteří se druhý jazyk pořádně nenaučili a první nepřestali používat. Nejznámějšími mluvčími tohoto jazyka jsou samozřejmě dva vrcholní slověnští politici působící nakonec v Čěsku: Gustáv Husák a Andrej Babiš. Aneb konečně podcast, který respektuje slovenské úsilí o svébytnost.

Co vznikne, když z Viktora Orbána vypreparujete víru v Boha, následně z Gustáva Husáka víru v Marxe a tyto části sloučíte? Nefalšovaný Andrej Babiš. Svědčí o tom koaliční smlouva nové vlády a rovněž její programové prohlášení.Koaliční smlouva je krátká a jasná – o všem podstatném rozhodují předsedové tří stran a v případě nesouladu premiér. To není nic proti ničemu, jen překvapivá je sebedůvěra dvou menších stran. Koaliční smlouva bývá většinou obranou těch menších proti dominantnímu hráči ve vládě. Prostě mít garance a mechanismy je lepší než sliby a deklarace dobré vůle.V jedné věci se koaliční smlouva dramaticky liší od dokumentu podobného typu, který měl Andrej Babiš se sociální demokracií v roce 2018. Tehdy existovala dohoda, že se nechá vydat k trestnímu stíhání a v případě prvoinstančního rozhodnutí soudu v jeho neprospěch (a pokud by neodstoupil), padá vláda. Tady je naopak nevydání Andreje Babiše tmelem této vlády.Text programového prohlášení by se dal charakterizovat slovy: daně snížíme, výdaje zvýšíme. Zároveň je podezřelé, jak se celým textem opakují slova typu „uděláme“, „zajistíme“, „prosadíme“ – není tam však naznačeno ani datum, ani výhled. Je to deklarace dobrých úmyslů.Asi jako když namísto zestátnění celého ČEZ, které Babiš sliboval, se tam objevila věta: „Uděláme kroky k získání stoprocentní kontroly nad výrobou ve skupině ČEZ.“ Jedna věc je, že Babiš nezdůvodnil, proč jen nad jednou částí. Jinou věcí je typická formulace „uděláme kroky“. Z celkového kontextu vyplývá, že tyto kroky budou trvat řadu let a ke snížení slibovaných cen elektřiny jen tak nepovedou.Největší diskontinuitu s minulou vládou představují části o důchodové reformě, ve zdravotnictví a hlavně v bezpečnostní oblasti. Tady není vůbec zřejmé, koho nová vláda považuje za svého spojence a jaký stát představuje riziko pro národní bezpečnost.Kapitoly o zemědělství a zdravotnictví jsou vyloženě šité na míru firmám typu Agrofert a FutureLife, které vlastní sám Babiš. Je to ostatně hlavní metoda při psaní programu vlády – vypustit „bílé ideologické psíky“, za nimiž se budou honit média a političtí protivníci. Podstatné části jsou zakopané hluboko pod zemí a týkají se převážně byznysu nastupující politické garnitury.

Te recuerdo que si eres garajista tienes condiciones especiales y francamente, si no estás suscrito, no sé a qué esperas… Porque… ¿Crees que el Mini se diseñó en una servilleta? ¿Qué no hubo una versión 4x4 o un dos volúmenes? ¿Crees que fue un éxito instantáneo, que era un coche para chicas o que nació con vocación deportiva? Hoy vamos a destrozar estos y muchos más mitos sobre el Mini. Vas a conocer la verdadera historia del Mini porque… ¡Esto es Garaje Hermético! Mentira 1: "El diseño del Mini nació en una servilleta". Confieso que creía en esta leyenda: Que Sir Alec Issigonis tuvo un destello de genialidad y esbozó el Mini en una servilleta. Es una imagen poética, pero falsa. Mentira 2: "El Mini fue un éxito de ventas instantáneo". Siempre que se habla de este modelo se da por supuesto que el público se enamoró del Mini desde el primer día, pero la realidad es muy diferente, pues su despegue comercial fue muy lento. Mentira 3: "El Mini nació con espíritu deportivo". El nombre Mini Cooper es sinónimo de competición, pero el coche no nació con esa vocación. Es más, su creador, Alec Issigonis, despreciaba las carreras. Mentira 4: "Todos los Minis clásicos son prácticamente iguales". Su silueta apenas cambió en 40 años, pero el Mini vivió una evolución constante. Se vendió bajo distintas marcas como Austin, Morris, Riley, Wolseley; tuvo diferentes carrocerías como el familiar Traveller, la furgoneta Van, con maletero separado y el playero Moke; y una gran variedad de motores, desde 848 cm3 hasta 1275 cm3. Mentira 5: "El Mini es un coche muy inseguro por su tamaño". Juzgar al Mini con los estándares actuales es injusto. Comparado con sus contemporáneos de los años 60, no era inseguro. Su mayor baza era la seguridad activa: su agilidad, dirección directa y frenada le permitían evitar accidentes con facilidad. Mentira 6: "BMC perdía dinero con cada Mini que vendía". Una leyenda muy extendida basada en que el margen de beneficio en los modelos básicos era ridículamente bajo, casi inexistente, debido a un error de cálculo inicial en los costes de producción. Mentira 7: "El Mini fue un coche pensado para mujeres". Su asociación con iconos de la moda como Mary Quant, creadora de la minifalda, le dio una imagen femenina, pero el Mini fue concebido como un coche universal para toda la familia. Mentira 8: "Siempre se llamó Mini". Pues no. El coche no nació como una marca llamada "Mini". En 1959, para satisfacer a las distintas redes de concesionarios de BMC, se lanzó bajo dos nombres: Austin Seven y Morris Mini-Minor. Mentira 9: "El primer Mini matriculado fue el 621 AOK". La matrícula 621 AOK es icónica, pero no pertenece al primer Mini fabricado. Este coche fue, en realidad, el primer Mini presentado a la prensa y utilizado para las fotos oficiales del lanzamiento. Por su gran exposición mediática, se quedó en la memoria colectiva como el número uno.. Mentira 10: "Gustó a todo el mundo desde el primer momento". Lejos de ser un amor a primera vista universal, la recepción inicial del Mini fue muy polarizada. Muchos periodistas y compradores potenciales lo encontraron demasiado extraño, ruidoso y espartano. Mentira 11: "El Traveller tenía una carrocería de madera". Las versiones familiares, conocidas como Traveller o Countryman, son famosas por su entramado de madera trasero. Esto ha llevado a pensar que su carrocería era de madera, incluso lo he visto escrito por compañeros… pero no es cierto. Mentira 12: "No hubo un Mini de tres volúmenes". Bueno, esto en realidad es cierto, porque no hubo uno… hubo dos. BMC lanzó en 1961 el Riley Elf y Wolseley Hornet ambos con la base del Mini, pero con un prominente maletero y un frontal con la parrilla distintiva de cada marca, creando una elegante silueta de sedán en miniatura. Mentira 12+1: "Nunca hubo un Mini 4x4". Aunque nunca se vendió al público, la idea de un Mini con tracción total existió y se desarrolló en prototipos fascinantes. El más famoso fue el "Twini", un Moke experimental con ¡dos motores!, uno delante y otro detrás, creando un 4x4 de altísimas prestaciones…

I remember back in the mid 90s when I first got into Elliott Smith's music and discovered that he also had a band. That band was called Heatmiser, and they were putting out amazing music, as well. A particular favorite for me was their 1996 album Mic City Sons, an album I've listened to hundreds of times over the years. And they've just released out an expanded 30th anniversary edition via Jack White's Third Man records that includes demos of tunes from the album, previously unreleased recordings from the sessions, and even a full band version of Elliott's solo tune “Christian Brothers.” It was awesome getting to talk with Heatmiser singer and guitarist and co-songwriter Neil Gust about the making of Mic City Sons — what went right and what went wrong; by the time it came out they had all but broken up — and also about the making of Heatmiser which was Neil and Elliott and bassist Sam Coomes (also of Quasi), and drummer Tony Lash. We delve into how Neil and Elliott first met as college classmates, initially playing in a band together called Swimming Jesus before as graduation approached they came up with the idea for Heatmiser, and of course we also talk about Neil's own personal history as a guitarist and songwriter. Baxie speaks with Neil Gust from Heatmiser and No.2. In 1991 Neil Gust and the late Elliott Smith formed Heatmiser in Portland, Oregon soon after graduating from Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass. Heatmiser would release three albums including the critically acclaimed “Mic City Sons” in 1996. By this point Elliott Smith began her legendary solo career (which included six studio albums and a Grammy nomination for the music of the film Good Will Hunting). Neil Gust went on to form his own band, No.2, which released two exceptional records before leaving music for a very success career in commercial video editing. 20 years later Neil Gust would reform No.2 and release an amazing comeback album—“First Love” in 2022. Earlier this year, Gust released a great compilation of unreleased tracks with Elliott Smith entitled “The Music of Heatmiser”. Absolutely amazing! You're no doubt familiar with the breezy gust meaning “a brief burst of wind.” But about a century and a half before that word first appeared in print in the late 16th century, a different gust blew onto the scene. The windy gust likely comes from a synonymous Old Norse word, gustr, whereas the older gust, which refers to the sensation of taste as well as to a feeling of enthusiastic delight, comes ultimately from gustus, the Latin word for “taste.” English speakers eventually mostly dropped that older gust, replacing it in the early 17th century with a similar gustus word borrowed from Italian: gusto is now the go-to word when you want to refer to enthusiastic and vigorous enjoyment or appreciation. You can use it with gusto.
