Bassist and founding member of Alcatrazz, Gary Shea, thought it would be cool to have the band's original guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen play on a new song for old times' sake. Do you recognize the name, Owsley Stanley? If you're not a devoted Dead Head, probably not. But he's the guy who met the Dead when they had just formed, supplied them with LSD, and helped them form their psychedelic, jam band sound. He also supplied LSD to hundreds of thousands, if not millions of others hippies. It was his LSD that would truly fuel the counterculture movement of the late 1960s. The Summer of Love wouldn't have been nearly as magical as it was without Owsley's mind-expanding psychedelics. He was one-of-a-kind, and I hope you enjoy learning about his life as much as I did. We're talking Paul McCartney in this episode. Specifically his music during the decade of the 90s. Author JR Moores has a new book out now titled Off The Ground: Paul McCartney in the 1990s. This was an era like no other for McCartney, perhaps even the most significant decade of his entire career after the 1960s.Following a shakier 1980s, the decade would see him reemerge with greater energy, momentum, and self-belief. JR Moores's sympathetic but not uncritical new book explores McCartney's '90s, with its impressive studio and live albums, colossal tours, unexpected side-projects, imaginative collaborations, forays into classical composition, some new Beatles numbers, and a whole lot more besides. Moores reveals how McCartney's reputation began to be perceived more generously by the public, and he argues that his output and activities in the '90s would uncover more about the person behind them than in any other decade. Author Don Klees is on the podcast to talk about his new book David Bowie: 1983-2016 Every Album, Every Song. It's part of Sonicbond Publishing's On Track series. In a career full of twists and turns, none was as sharp as the one David Bowie experienced after his 1983 album Let's Dance. The record gave Bowie the hit that he wanted but completely altered his artistic standing in the process. Instead of an innovator who pushed rock music forward, the singer found himself a global superstar with a mass audience whose tastes he didn't understand and who reciprocated this feeling as the 1980s unfolded. After immersing himself in the band project Tin Machine, Bowie spent the 1990s embracing reinvention and experimentation with mixed but often fascinating results, leading to a full-fledged renaissance early in the 21st century. From there, his story only got stranger; 2013's The Next Day was a triumphant comeback after years of self-imposed silence. Meanwhile, 2016's Blackstar stood among his most challenging albums and became the final release of his lifetime. One constant is that the records David Bowie released during this time were ultimately the result of his artistic vision, wherever it took him. This book considers all those releases on their own merits, away from the shadow of his 1970s landmarks. Even if Bowie himself didn't always appreciate the results, every album featured songs worthy of his reputation.Purchase a copy of David Bowie: 1983-2016 Every Album, Every Song in the UKPurchase a copy of David Bowie: 1983-2016 Every Album, Every Song in the USFollow Don Klees:Facebook Instagram Episode Playlist ---------- BookedOnRock.com The Booked On Rock Store The Booked On Rock YouTube Channel Follow The Booked On Rock with Eric Senich:FACEBOOKINSTAGRAMTIKTOKX Find Your Nearest Independent Bookstore Contact The Booked On Rock Podcast: thebookedonrockpodcast@gmail.com The Booked On Rock Music: “Whoosh” by Crowander / “Last Train North” & “No Mercy” by TrackTribe

Frizz pours Tomatin, and Bob pours Starlight Bourbon as we metaphorically drive down the highway to hell to learn about the career of one of the greatest, no-frills, rock and roll bands of all time. Join just a couple of scientists learning all about power currents, lonely British suburban wives, and rockin and rollin. (have a drink)
We are back with our good friend Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Since the last time we interviewed Kenny, he has released a follow up album to "Dirt On My Diamonds, Vol 1" iornically titled, "Dirt On My Diamonds, Vol 2". In addition to the new album, we talk about Kenny's experience actually playing Jimi Hendrix's "Woodstock" guitar and his upcoming tour, plus 2 new albums set to release in 2025. Kenny is a five-time-Grammy-nominated guitarist. The new album was recorded at the Legendary Fame Stuios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. This project chronicles Shepherd's journey of musical evolution, touching on stories of loss, redemption, and memorable melodies. All crafted by an elite team of songwriters. Born in Louisiana, in 1977, Shepherd's own life has never followed the script. Steeped in classic blues and rock 'n' roll from an early age by his dad - a respected Lousiana radio personality and promoter - Kenny soon reached for his first Fender stratocaster and found he didn't require lessons to make it cry and wail. Long before Warner Brothers subsidairy Giant Records offered a deal, Shepherd had toured in clubs which he was too young to drink in. Please also check out our precious KWS interview released: October 7, 2023.
