Can a bowler find a way to exploit a batter's anatomy and his movements? England did it to Bradman and Co. in the Bodyline series in 1932-33 but modern bowlers have tried a variation of this strategy too and turned in unforgettable spells. Recently while I was listening to a podcast by Allan Donald, the South African fast bowler spoke about that runout and the pains he went through. But he told of one incident in the dressing room when the opposition captain, Steve Waugh and Glenn McGrath came in and consoled him. Winning is not everything. Compassion and empathy matters more than anything else.

Nessun Dorma ventures into new territory this week, with Martyn and Rob joined by two special guests for our first ever cricket episode. Jonathan Hungin and Andrew Miller, who worked with Rob at Wisden.com at the turn of the century, join us to draft their XIs from the memorable 1999 World Cup.The list of players includes all-time greats hitting the heights (Shane Warne, Steve Waugh, Glenn McGrath, Rahul Dravid, Wasim Akram, Allan Donald) and unheralded players having the best month of their careers (Gavin Hamilton, Neil Johnson, Geoff Allott).Somewhere in the middle was Lance Klusener, who dominated the tournament to a frightening degree before a devastating twist in the semi-final against Australia. These are the rules of the Nessun Dorma draft:* Each player can only be picked by one person. When Klusener has gone, he's gone.* Players are judged solely on their performances in the 1999 World Cup. So, for one draft only, Moin Khan and Ridley Jacobs are better picks than Adam Gilchrist.* You decide who wins the draft. Go to Twitter/X (@nessundormapod) on Wednesday morning to choose which team you think is the best. The poll will close at 5pm on Friday (UK time). This is a public episode. There is a very good chance that it will prove to be a mistake going after Donald Trump on the porn star charges. It's not that he should get away with anything. No one's above the law, not even a former president. But I'm not sure this is the charge they should've gone after him on. This case is so technical that it's not clear it's even going to work against him, and it's going to be hard to make it seem fair in New York. How can Trump get a fair trial out of a New York jury when he only won 12 percent of the vote in Manhattan? So if the case is a tough one, why pick this one? There are way more serious allegations levelled against him. Like him telling state officials in Georgia to find 11780 votes. Which was recorded on tape, so he could overturn his loss in the state. That's a far more egregious breach of the law. Again, not to say that he should get away with anything at all, but I don't think this was the right charge to kick off with. For most people, this will look like a witch-hunt. They will see this as the Democrats in New York coming after Donald Trump on anything they can find, just to keep him out of the White House. They won't understand the Stormy Daniels case fully, and for them this will just look like the prosecutors have dug up an old, tawdry case to go Donald Trump on. And he will use that fact to his advantage. Already, he's put out a statement claiming a witch-hunt. He's raked in, he reckons, $4 million and counting in campaign donations, he's already leading the polls for the Republicans again, and he's got Republicans who were publicly condemning him about two weeks ago now lining up to support him. It doesn't mean he'll become the Republican candidate, it doesn't mean he'll become the president, but he will definitely become a martyr to a whole bunch of voters. Trump will use this to his advantage. And so, if the case doesn't succeed but Trump does, then it will have been a mistake. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

South African fast bowler Allan Donald (White Lightning) was one of the quickest and most awe-inspiring bowlers of recent decades. As scary as he was on-the-field, he is equally a friendly and consummate gentleman off of it. Allan shares generously about the stories behind his stellar career. He opens up about some of his duals against the world's best batsmen that remain stuff of legends. He shares how his career unfolded alongside that of close friend and captain Hansie Cronje, and the devastation of Cronje's involvement in match-fixing. He also opens up about the infamous run out between him and Lance Klusener in 1999 World Cup semifinal, and the impact of it on him personally. This and so much more. Such is the respect for Allan's knowledge and experience, since retirement from the international game, he has been appointed coach in numerous teams and leagues around the world, including in five different international teams. In 2019 he was inducted into the International Cricket Council Hall of Fame.
