In this episode of the Top Order Podcast, Binksy, Jamie, Baldy and Raj discuss some of the major talking points from the past week, including the England v India T20 series, Australia's innings victories in the tests against Sri Lanka & India, plus a Sachin Tendulkar/Steve Smith stat-off to finish. We start the show by discussing Australia's WAshes victory and the fallout for an England side that has performed well below their own expectations. Will there be changes at the top? There's also praise for Alana King, Annabel Sutherland, Beth Mooney, Ash Gardner and more. Next up we move to India's T20 series with England. The show was recorded before India's crushing win in the 5th match, but the discussion around England's mixed performances shone through. There are question marks around the finishing and concussion substitutes, but plenty of positives for Varun Chakravarthy and also Hardik Pandya's leadership. After that we move to another big Australian victory - the innings win against Sri Lanka at Galle. We talk about the manner of the victory and the dominant performance, but of course Baldy is always looking for improvements from this Australian team. Usman Khawaja and Josh Inglis went big, but should Sam Konstas have played? How well did the Aussie spinners bowl? And what was Dhananjaya De Silva doing? To round out the show, it was a good old fashioned head-to-head battle as the boys discuss the records of Sachin Tendulkar and Steve Smith after the latter passed 10,000 runs. In this episode of the show, we move to a new studio but it's still cricket on the agenda as we look back at the week that was. England broke plenty of records on a Multan road, Kane Williamson looks set to miss at least the first Test against India, the White Ferns breathed life into their T20 World Cup chances and Team India's depth was on show again against Bangladesh.   We start by discussing England's remarkable win against Pakistan, in a game which looked headed for a dull draw on a very flat pitch until first a Joe Root and Harry Brook partnership then a flurry of Pakistan wickets late on Day 4 swung the Test England's way. We talk about whether the match was enjoyable as a cricket fan, marvel at Joe Root's brilliance and wonder how both sides will back up after so spending so long in the field.   We then turn our attention to India, where the Black Caps are about to embark on a three-Test tour as heavy underdogs, without Kane Williamson – at least for the first match. How should the NZ batters attempt to combat this formidable Indian bowling attack? Will Matt Henry replace Tim Southee? And can the Kiwis put up a fight or will India win the series with ease?   In some positive New Zealand news, the White Ferns put together an almost complete performance to beat India in their opening game of the T20 World Cup, giving them a great opportunity to advance through to the semi finals. But then Australia came along and burst the bubble of joy, looking every bit the champions in wait as they skittled NZ for 88. We talk about the controversy involving Amelia Kerr, and praise Rosemary Mair for her strong performances so far. To round out the show, we discuss the batting firepower of India's next generation T20 side as they lead Bangladesh 2-0, and Baldy opens the black book again with a Sheffield Shield update. In 2003, Namibia's Rudie van Vuuren became the first - and, to date, only - man to have played at both the cricket and rugby World Cups. His feat was made all the more impressive by the fact that he was also working full-time as a doctor. His sporting career saw him take on stars like Sachin Tendulkar, Shoaib Akhtar and James Anderson; though Namibia rarely won, he still managed to find some small victories of his own. This is the story of a unique sporting life, and why he's still keeping company with big names away from the pitches.

In this episode, I was lucky enough to interview Sanket Karamchandani, Founder of Miss Neeta's Ice Cream Parlor. Sanket shared his entrepreneurial journey from a childhood dream inspired by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar to becoming a business owner. Growing up in the Bay Area, Sanket was driven by the desire to pursue something he loved, which he eventually realized was ice cream. Despite his early aspirations, it took years of preparation, including a career in product management, to set the stage for launching his business during the COVID-19 pandemic. He began by experimenting with flavors and going door-to-door in his neighborhood to introduce his ice cream, leveraging skills he learned from a college job selling solar panels. Sanket discussed the support he received from his employer, Groove, which not only understood his passion but also actively supported his ice cream venture, purchasing pints for company events and using his services for catered functions. Today, Miss Neeta's Ice Cream focuses on maintaining a personal touch, attending wedding trade shows, and engaging in digital marketing to expand their reach. Working alongside his mother, who shares his love for creating delicious desserts, has been a rewarding aspect of the business for Sanket. As he moves into the fourth year of his business, his goal is to scale up, form partnerships, and bring his unique ice cream to a wider audience.Step into the world of retail innovation and uncover how Sanket Karamchandani builds brands that resonate and grow against the odds on this episode of The First Customer!Guest Info:Miss Neeta's Ice Cream Parlorhttp://www.missneetas.comSanket Karamchandani's LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/karamchandanisanket/Connect with Jay on LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/jayaigner/The First Customer Youtube Channelhttps://www.youtube.com/@thefirstcustomerpodcastThe First Customer podcast websitehttps://www.firstcustomerpodcast.comFollow The First Customer on LinkedInhttp://www.linkedin.com/company/the-first-customer-podcast/

India white-washed Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20I series under the watchful eyes of Gautam Gambhir. One of the most prominent features in the series was that batters chipped in with the ball when necessary. Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh rolled their arms in a crunch situation and helped India win the final match of the series. This was reminiscent of the pre-2011 era of Indian cricket, where the team had able part-timers in Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh, among others, who had the ability to hold their nerve when handed the ball. While it is too early to tell if this could be a regular thing, it is surely a welcome change for the Indian team, who have struggled with their combinations in white-ball cricket with their top order not contributing with the ball.  In this episode of the Sledging Room, Akshay Ramesh, Saurabh Kumar, and Kingshuk Kusari discuss the point of the Sri Lanka T20I series and what they learned from Gambhir's first stint as the India head coach. Dubbed ‘The Master of Movement', the title of an exhibition of his work showcased at The Strand Gallery in London back in 2014, Trevillion has immortalised the likenesses of some of the biggest names in sport over his stunning career that spans over 70 years. With his unrivalled ability to capture elite athletes in action, he's produced illustrations of the likes of Pele, Bobby Moore, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Johan Cruyff, Franz Beckenbauer, Sir Ian Botham, Sachin Tendulkar, Andy Murray, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Sugar Ray Robinson and Oscar De La Hoya to name just an illustrious few. It's his first and most-enduring football idol Dixie Dean who we're concerned with today though. Paul, who celebrates his 90th birthday on March 11, was transfixed by Dixie ever since he was taken to his first ever game on February 22, 1937, shortly before he turned three, to watch a then Second Division Tottenham Hotspur defeat Everton 4-3 in an FA Cup fifth round replay. Over two decades later, he'd be reunited with the Blues' most-prolific marksman as he met up with his boyhood hero to produce the legendary centre-forward's life story for the Liverpool Echo. This incredible series ran in our newspaper for a marathon 21 weeks during the 1960/61 season.
