A listener says she was visiting a friend over the weekend when her friend’s child asked to borrow her phone to play games. She handed it over, but while playing, the child dropped the phone and smashed the screen. She took her iPhone 16 to Vodacom and was quoted R7,000 for a screen replacement. But now there’s a problem: her friend refuses to pay, saying she believes it’s actually the listener’s fault for handing the child the phone in the first place. So, where does the responsibility fall? Is it on the parent because their child damaged someone else’s property, or did the listener accept the risk by giving the child her phone? Another jaw-dropping reveal on The Masked Singer South Africa Season 3! After keeping the detectives and viewers guessing, Spinach was finally chopped and unmasked as rap icon and “king of zef” Jack Parow! Jack had the panel scrambling as they tried to work out who was hiding behind the elaborate green Spinach costume, with guesses ranging from Bryan Habana and Clint Brink to Benni McCarthy and YoungstaCPT. But it wasn’t just the identity that had everyone talking – Spinach’s clues were just as wild as the costume! From his references to high-school rugby and his childhood pet parrot to his signature Parow Brandy and a mysterious “keto” birdseed clue, there were plenty of hints pointing towards Jack. Detective J’Something eventually had several aha moments, connecting the parrot clue, the brandy reference and Spinach’s love of rapping. His final guess? Jack Parow – and for the first time this season, J’Something was spot-on! And after weeks of clues, costumes and performances, the mystery was finally solved: Spinach was Jack Parow! Despite the intense costume, the rapper said he had an incredible time under the Mask and walked away with a newfound appreciation for the professionals who work in elaborate costumes. There’s something so strange about driving past a place where you used to spend your weekends and realising that the nightclub you once knew has completely disappeared. The spots where we dressed up, stood in queues, blew R800 on a night out and promised our parents we were “sleeping at a friend’s house” are now dentists, clinics, Woolies, furniture shops and restaurants. Ftv in Fourways is now a Woolies, Cofi is now a furniture shop, and Vacca Matta has become a Thai spa, which, as Thembekile pointed out, technically still offers a “happy ending.” Then there’s Liquid Chefs… a name that instantly brings back memories for anyone who was out in Joburg during that era. It’s basically a reminder that Joburg nightlife has changed dramatically but the memories of those places are still very much alive. Hang out with Anele and The Club on 947 every weekday morning. Netflix’s The Last House follows a family who find themselves trapped inside their home during a terrifying and increasingly dangerous situation. With nowhere safe to go and danger waiting outside, their house becomes both their shelter and their prison. The movie got Anele thinking: if you were stuck inside your own home and couldn’t leave no shops, no takeaways, no deliveries: how long could you actually survive on the food you already have? Would you have enough for a few days? A week? A month? Or would you be finished by Friday? Hang out with Anele and The Club on 947 every weekday morning. There’s a hilarious babysitting story doing the rounds from Instagram user @angi.jamz. She says she was booked to babysit until 5PM, so naturally, that’s the time she planned to pack up and leave. But then the parents messaged her to say they wouldn’t be coming home until 2AM! Angi told them she couldn’t stay that late and would have to leave at the agreed time. That’s when the parents hit her with: “We were telling you, not asking you!” And that has sparked the BIG question: If someone books you to babysit until 5PM, can they just tell you they’re coming home at 2AM or do they need to actually ASK if you’re available? Residents at The Parks Lifestyle Apartments in Fourways have raised eyebrows after bright red notices were placed on apartment doors when rent is overdue. The notices are hard to miss, meaning anyone walking past, your neighbours, visitors, even delivery drivers, can see that you're behind on your payments. Some say it's an effective way to get tenants' attention. After all, rent is a contractual obligation, and landlords have a right to recover money owed. Others believe it's public shaming. They argue that financial struggles are personal, and putting a notice on someone's front door crosses a line by exposing their situation to everyone around them. So, this morning we want to know...Are apartment complexes allowed to do this? Hang out with Anele and The Club on 947 every weekday morning. There’s a contestant on the current season of Married at First Sight Mzansi who’s only 24 years old, and it's sparked a massive debate online. The reality show pairs complete strangers who meet for the very first time... at the altar, before getting married. Season 3 is currently airing on Mzansi Magic and has once again got everyone talking. One post on X summed up the internet's reaction perfectly: "Going to Married at First Sight while you're 24 is peak giving up. Like... go to groove or something." Brutal... but it does raise an interesting question. At what age do you think it's actually okay to settle down? Is 24 too young to be saying, "I'm ready for marriage," or if you've found your person, does age really not matter? Maybe you got married at 23 and you're still happily together. Or maybe you waited until your 40s and you're glad you did. We want to hear your story. Hang out with Anele and The Club on 947 every weekday morning. You packed your bags for a fresh start... but did you end up wishing you'd stayed put? Maybe your parents moved the family to a new town. Maybe you chased your dream job in another city. Or perhaps university took you hundreds of kilometres away from everything you knew. Sometimes it turns out to be the best decision of your life. You find new friends, new opportunities, even love. We often know our kids' favourite songs, the artists they love, and every lyric they play on repeat... but how well do they know us? If you asked your child, "What's my favourite song?" would they know the answer instantly, or would they have absolutely no clue? Maybe it's because we spend so much time listening to their music in the car, or maybe we've never shared the songs that shaped our own lives. That one track that reminds you of your first love, your university days, your wedding, or simply makes you turn the volume all the way up every single time. So, here's the question: Do your kids know your favourite song? If they do, what is it? And if they don't... what does that say about how much of ourselves we actually share with them? We received a voice note from someone who wants to remain anonymous, so let's call her Pamela. Pamela says she's feeling completely trapped. A while ago, she lent her boyfriend R120,000 to help him pay the deposit on a car. Since then, he's been paying her back R1,000 a month. But now she's discovered that he's been cheating on her. She says she wants to end the relationship immediately... but if she walks away, she's terrified she'll never see the rest of her money again. So here's the question...Do you stay in the relationship until the debt is paid off, or do you cut your losses, leave, and deal with the money later? What would you do if you were Pamela? Last week on the show we were speaking about hotels in Vegas who give you dinner vouchers in exchange for not cleaning your room, and we briefly mentioned a side conversation... The second you check into a hotel, do you unpack everything into the drawers and hang your clothes up like you've moved in? Or do you leave everything in your suitcase, digging through it every morning because you're only there for a few days anyway? So, where do you fall? Who says a flower girl has to be a little girl? Traditionally, flower girls are between 3 and 8 years old... but there's no actual rule. These days, couples are ripping up the wedding rulebook – grandmothers, best friends, grown men and even the bride's dad have all taken a turn tossing petals down the aisle! So, where do you draw the line? Is there an age where you're officially too old to be a flower girl, or is it the couple's wedding and they can choose whoever they want? Another jaw-dropping reveal on The Masked Singer South Africa! After weeks of keeping both the detectives and viewers guessing, Protea was finally unmasked as SAFTA Award-winning actress Shannon Esra. The detective panel was completely off the mark, throwing out names like Moonchild, Sho Madjozi and Khutso Theledi but not one of them guessed Shannon. Speaking after the reveal, Shannon admitted that keeping her identity a secret was one of the hardest parts of the show, saying it sometimes felt like she was lying to the people closest to her. She also revealed performing inside the elaborate costume meant remembering one very important thing... to breathe! The Masked Singer South Africa airs Saturdays at 7pm on SABC 2. If you've opened X, switched on the TV or listened to the news over the past few weeks, chances are you've heard about the Madlanga Commission. Today we are giving you a 101 update for those of you who know ZERO about it...The commission was established by President Cyril Ramaphosa after explosive allegations by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who claimed there had been political interference, corruption and criminal infiltration within South Africa's police, intelligence and justice systems. The inquiry, chaired by retired Constitutional Court Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, is now tasked with getting to the bottom of those claims. Let's start with One of the biggest questions that's come up is: Why was the Political Killings Task Team shut down? One of Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's biggest claims is that the Political Killings Task Team was shut down because it was getting too close to exposing powerful criminal syndicates and the people allegedly protecting them. He told the commission the unit was delivering results not failing and believes its disestablishment was meant to derail sensitive investigations. That's now one of the key issues the commission is trying to determine. Hang out with Anele and The Club on 947 every weekday morning. One little one reckons a cream doughnut should actually be called a "cream hotdog," while another thinks pancakes deserve the name "rollies." It got us thinking… if kids were in charge of naming everyday things, what would they come up with? From food and animals to toys and household items, what funny or clever names would your child give them? Hang out with Anele and The Club on 947 every weekday morning. A hotel in Las Vegas is giving guests a choice: if you agree to skip having your room cleaned during your stay, they'll reward you with a free food and drink voucher worth around $10 that’s about R 180. It's part of an initiative to save water, energy and housekeeping costs. So, would you give up daily room cleaning for a free meal, or is a freshly cleaned hotel room something you wouldn't compromise on? The Offer: Voluntary green programs or "skip housekeeping" choices. The Value: Typically a $10 (R180) daily food/beverage credit or resort credit. Hang out with Anele and The Club on 947 every weekday morning. Yesterday, anele had the shock of her life when a porcupine turned up at her house. The unexpected visitor sparked a huge conversation on the show, with listeners sharing what they believe it means when certain animals appear at your home. That got us thinking... South Africa is full of fascinating beliefs and superstitions about animals. Depending on your culture or family, an owl, a snake, a praying mantis, a black cat or even a porcupine can be seen as a message from the ancestors, a warning, or a sign of good or bad luck. So today we want to know... what animal beliefs did you grow up with? What does your culture or family believe certain animals bring, and where do those beliefs come from? Your phone lights up with a message from someone you haven't spoken to in 20 years. It's not a reunion. It's not a catch-up. It's an apology. "I've been meaning to say this for years... I'm sorry." Maybe they bullied you at school. Maybe they humiliated you in front of the class. Maybe they did something they've never quite forgiven themselves for. After all this time, they've decided they owe you an explanation. Hang out with Anele and The Club on 947 every weekday morning. Anele had the shock of her life yesterday when she found a porcupine wandering around her house. Security was called to remove it... but here's the problem: they left without saying whether they'd actually caught it. So now she's wondering... is there still a porcupine hiding somewhere on the property? That got us thinking... across South Africa, different cultures have very different beliefs about animals that unexpectedly appear at your home. For some, it's nothing more than nature doing its thing. For others, it's a warning, a message from the ancestors, a sign of good luck... or even bad luck. A porcupine, in particular, carries all sorts of meanings depending on who you ask. Hang out with Anele and The Club on 947 every weekday morning. Cindy's friend went on a trip with her husband... She is a doctor. On the flight they say: "Is there a doctor onboard", she waits a bit, then goes to check, she spends the entire flight in the gully with this person. Gets no compensations for the business class flight that she couldn’t use... Why doesn’t the airline carry their own doctor. Hang out with Anele and The Club on 947 every weekday morning. Is it safe to fly through Dubai right now? On 14 July, EASA, the regulator behind every European airline, told its operators to avoid the airspace of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE at all altitudes, until at least 29 July. Dubai International is open. Emirates is flying one of its busiest summers ever. Both of those things are true at the same time, and this episode explains how. I read the actual conflict zone bulletin word for word, unpack the one word in it that should get your attention (misidentification, the MH17 and PS752 word), separate the three things people keep mashing together (the airspace, the airport, the airlines), and walk through the real routing choices from Johannesburg to Europe. Then I give you my honest answer: what I would do flying alone, and what I am doing differently when my wife and kids are next to me. In this episode of The Bryan Air Podcast, Bryan Roseveare explains the EASA conflict zone bulletin, Dubai airspace restrictions, Gulf airspace safety, whether Dubai airport is open, why Emirates is still flying, Dubai flight cancellations, and how to reroute from Johannesburg to Europe without the Gulf. TIME-STAMPED FLIGHT PLAN 00:00 The EASA warning, read word for word 01:40 Misidentification: the word that scares pilots 02:48 Why now: the 72 hours before the bulletin 03:15 Airspace, airport, airlines: three different things 04:20 Do you even need the Gulf? 04:31 Joburg to Europe: every routing option 05:24 Why airlines are reacting so differently 06:33 What avoiding the Gulf actually costs you 07:17 Flying solo vs flying with your family 09:18 The takeaway: two risk models I'm Bryan Roseveare. Fourteen years an airline pilot, now a simulator instructor. I train the pilots flying you around.
