Allison Argo is a filmmaker known for her emotionally-charged, intimate portraits of abused and endangered animals. The nearly two dozen films she's produced, directed, and written have all been broadcast by PBS and/or National Geographic and have won over 100 awards internationally. Her most recent film, The Last Pig, premiered on PBS last year after appearing at 42 film festivals. The Last Pig is about the poignant journey of a pig farmers who, after 10 years of raising and killing pigs, decided he couldn't do it anymore. Allison shares how documenting this heart wrenching and life-changing story affected her and her own life choices. She also discusses her new film, still in production, about farmed animal sanctuaries and a new concept called Animal Centered Design where animal rescue facilities are creating spaces for the resident animals that are more attentive to their physical and emotional needs. This new film continues Allison's mission to provide a voice for those who are not heard—and to deepen understanding and respect for all beings.Resources:ArgoFilms.comThe Last PigThe Humane Hoax Online Conference (Saturday, February 26)AfroVegan Society- Veguary Campaign

WELCOME BACK!It's bring your little sister to work day! Well, not really...but it feels like it. Andy's been entertaining his kid sister, Carol who's been visiting Cincinnati for four days now. Kings Island is fun, but with your BROTHER? Maybe not. Andy realizes he's coming up short in the tour guide department. He decides to enlist the help of one of the smoothest and coolest ladies' men you'll find anywhere in the Greater Cincinnati area...Dr. John Fever. Hold on, you thought I meant someone else? A certain late night disk jockey with a silky voice and fantastic threads? It would make sense, wouldn't it? Andy doesn't see it. He bribes the Doctor with fifty bucks and tells him to meet him back at the station tonight. Venus and Carol have other plans that may involve roller skates. The pair ditches the station for a fun day in Cinci. Venus calls in to let Andy know he's going to need a sub. Art's on phone duty, and blows the message. Andy's getting REALLY mad about this situation and he's not sure why. It wouldn't be because Venus is...black? This is a deep and well-constructed script about subtle racism. It was written by Tim Reid, his first ever WGA writing credit. Not only do we go over Tim's story about the episode, we've got a BONUS: Allison Argo, who plays Carol, joins us to answer some questions and fill in a few details. It's a hilariously thought-provoking look at the racism that exists way below the surface. Sometimes only family can bring it to light. WATCH ALONG DETAILS...[Want to watch along with us? It's a blast!! We highly recommend the 'Shout Factory' boxed DVD set of the entire WKRP series. For reasons you'll have to listen to in the "Prolog"  episode, all streaming versions of the original "WKRP in Cincinnati" have had the original music cues removed. Generic music beds and stings were used in place of the original music for the syndicated version of the series. 'Shout Factory' has been able to restore an estimated 85% of all WKRP music cues to the original "as-aired" content for their DVD release. They've also restored scenes that had been cut to shorten episodes for syndication. The original eps ran 25 minutes. The syndication eps were shortened to 22 minutes. Over 88 episodes that's more than four hours of lost content, including the performance by "Detective" at the end of "Hoodlum Rock." Get the COMPLETE series...get the Shout Factory DVDs. The Shout Factory complete series box has a release date of 2014. If you were to take a brief look into Allison Argo’s life, you’d see the definition of what it means to follow your passion - written in large neon letters. She grew up in the theater on Cape Cod and as soon as she was old enough and able, she moved to NYC with a hundred bucks in her pocket ready to pursue her dream of acting. She walked dogs and cleaned apartments until she landed on her first role on Broadway. After acting in a few Broadway productions, she moved to Los Angeles and had another successful career on television.   But her real life’s work didn’t begin until she left acting. In 1990, without having any idea as to what she was doing she made her first documentary, The Urban Gorilla. She wrote, directed, produced, and edited it – learning all of the above on the job. It was picked up by National Geographic and was nominated for two Emmy’s. She’s gone on to make another 18 films and has won six Emmy’s and scores of other awards. Her documentaries focus on animal welfare, endangered wildlife and conservation. They have brought awareness and change to the plights of many species around the globe, including: gorillas, chimpanzees, snakes, dogs, elephants, and most recently, pigs.  The Last Pig is Allison’s documentary about a pig farmer named Bob Comis and his final year of sending his pigs to slaughter. It’s an incredibly beautiful, meditative film, narrated by Bob, while he struggles with the monthly trips to the slaughterhouse, ending the short lives of the pigs that he has grown to love.

A vegan documentary, which walks through a personal journey, THE LAST PIG raises crucial questions about equality, the value of compassion and the sanctity of life. Comis' soul-bearing narrative carries us through his final year of farming pigs, the struggle to reinvent his life, and the ghosts that will haunt him forever. It is Allison's hope that THE LAST PIG will help propel a shift in our society's relationship to non-human beings and our capacity for compassion. THE LAST PIG is a documentary feature completed in February 2017. The film is currently screening at festivals and independent theaters and will be made available for community screenings starting in July 2017. Distribution of the film to schools, universities, and libraries will be managed by Green Planet Films. The film will be offered for broadcast prior to DVD and VOD release. Fundraising is ongoing, and all support will help finance their extensive outreach efforts. PBN's Robbie Lockie discussed the film and life as a filmmaker with Allison Argo.
