Walid Ben Selim, chanteur-poète, fait dialoguer les vers d'Ibn Arabi et de Rûmi, inscrivant son souffle dans la tradition soufie pour rapprocher le spirituel des cœurs. Cette collaboration dépasse la musique : elle est rituelle, symbolique. Une rencontre qui relie les âges, l'intime et le collectif, la ferveur ancienne et les âmes en quête. Cette création se veut être un espace où le chant devient invocation, méditation, où la musique unit l'Orient et l'Occident. We live in times of war, and I believe that Zabi's poem invites us to reflect and be empathetic about the situation experienced not only by him and his family but by thousands of people who have been displaced from their homes and forced to migrate.  "In this piece, I focus on fire as an element of communion beyond borders. We can hear the dance of the Aztec fire (Familia Ramírez) merging with Afghan rhythms played on the table (Hamid Raouf Habibzadah), followed by a kind of incantation in Dari, Spanish, and English that turns into a quasi-ritual cacophony where we become burning flames. There are no more ashes, only hope, life, and movement. I thank Maria Margaronis for recording Zabi's voice and feelings." Zabi's poem reimagined by Ana Mora. Mariam Atash is an attorney with experience in the business, government relations, media and nonprofit sectors.  She serves on the United States Institute of Peace Gender and Law Working Group. She has also been an adjunct professor of law at The University of La Verne School of Law. Mariam was a senior advisor to the Commercial & Trade Counsel at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington, DC. She has taken part in numerous international conferences and speaking engagements on issues related to economic development, legal reform, women's rights, and civil society capacity building. Zohra Atash, Mariam's sister joins her on this episode to discuss their involvement with the Nooristan Foundation, which is a non for profit that provides education for Afghani street children, trains impoverished women to become entrepreneurs and helps bring electricity and education to remote villages in Afghanistan. Throughout the conversation both Mariam and Zohra offer some deeper insight into the current events happening in Afghanistan.

Recently I began offering a download of our cover of the Zeppelin classic Kashmir…Get it here: http://stringsattachedmusic.netSort of a way to win new fans to the Strings Attached way.I was very pleased with how it came together 8 years ago. My Iranian American friend Mohammad Firoozi from the world music band Atash, introducing the piece with a Rumi poem, a string trio, full rock band, percussion, a fantasy violin improv that seemed delivered by the divine,  accompanied by dumbek and pizzcatto.  This live cut was performed in a 150 year old Episcopal church in downtown Austin, Texas just a few feet from the (central) altar. Several times during the show, I was concerned about the delicate stained glass windows shattering to the beat of invading Vikings.
