Cape Town is often praised for having one of South Africa’s most progressive residential solar programmes, but the rollout has not been without controversy. Kadri Nassiep, Executive Director of City Electricity at the City of Cape Town, speaks to John Maytham about the City’s approach to encouraging solar uptake. Households can benefit from incentives including cash or bill credits for excess power fed back into the grid and the City has paid millions to residents for their contributions. Some administration fees have been reduced to make solar adoption easier. However, critics argue that additional costs such as feed-in meters and fixed infrastructure charges make participation complicated and expensive, particularly for middle-income households, high-value properties, and those using less municipal electricity. More than 14 000 objections and petitions have been lodged against the City’s tariff structures, with residents saying that fixed charges disproportionately affect disposable income. The City maintains that charges are necessary to cover the cost of pipes, cables, and staff, even as more households generate their own power, highlighting the tension between supporting renewable energy and maintaining municipal infrastructure funding. Presenter John Maytham is an actor and author-turned-talk radio veteran and seasoned journalist. His show serves a round-up of local and international news coupled with the latest in business, sport, traffic and weather. The host’s eclectic interests mean the program often surprises the audience with intriguing book reviews and inspiring interviews profiling artists. A daily highlight is Rapid Fire, just after 5:30pm. CapeTalk fans call in, to stump the presenter with their general knowledge questions. "How could this happen to me? I'm so powerful. I have everything." This is one of the inevitable, startling moments in the life of every soul in this world who identifies with the body and thinks, "I've got it made. I went to the best school," or not, whatever it may be. "Everything's lined up." And then the crocodile comes. And then there's this reckoning point in Gajendra's struggle with the crocodile, which I've mentioned many times: that he realizes, "I can't win and I'm helpless." Then he prays. There is a way in which the Bhāgavatam shows us: if you feel delight when you walk in the underbrush crackles under your feet, if you feel leisurely happy, the happy of the leisure you have gotten by your material advancement, watch out! Because Padam Padaṁ yad vipadam na teṣām... When we hear that story, where else are you going to hear it? Well, of course, you hear it every day—people coming into mishaps. But there's a sense of, "Well, at least it wasn't me." And, of course, people have empathy. They feel sorry, try to help out in some way. But ultimately, the Bhāgavatam frames this in such a way that it instills in our heart a sense of, "Let's not get comfortable here in the material world and think that 'I've got it made' and everything's going to be okay." Better to preemptively take the mood of Gajendra after the crocodile gets on his leg. Better to preemptively, says the intelligent person who hears these stories, take the position of Citraketu after he surrendered and took the mantra and began to chant sincerely. This instills in us both a sense of detachment from the material world, sufferings of which are categorically applied, even to the richest people, the most advantaged people with the most advantageous situations, as well as poor people; everyone. It's an equal opportunity — suffering agent, this material world. And then one comes to this sense of, "Let me surrender to Kṛṣṇa," removing from our heart, by hearing story after story, this sense of rāga or intense attachment to the material world. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

Rebekah's WebsiteHave you ever felt like you can never truly relax in relationship, that you have to keep performing, pleasing, or proving yourself to be worthy of love? You might be carrying the hidden wounds of conditional love. Whether it came from childhood, religious legalism, or performance-based approval, conditional love gives us a false view of, well, love. It breeds defensiveness, self-hatred, fear of vulnerability, and ultimately keeps us from the deep connections we long for.In this episode, we'll explore the emotional, relational, and spiritual cost of growing up with “love that had strings attached,” and why it becomes such a barrier to belonging in adulthood. We'll look at how Scripture reveals the freedom of God's unconditional love, unpack the ways our nervous system responds to early rejection, and outline practical steps for breaking free from the performance trap so we can live from a place of security, not fear.If you've ever longed for a community where you can be fully known and fully loved, this conversation will help you start healing the barriers that have been holding you back.

Despite big efforts in recent years to boost diversity in classical music, the genre is still exceedingly difficult to break into. According to an industry wide study conducted last year by the League of American Orchestras, African Americans made up just 2 percent of professional orchestras nationwide. Violinist and educator Brendan Slocumb and activist Afa Dworkin discuss what's holding the industry back and how improved early access music programs in public schools are vital to creating opportunity for historically excluded populations. During a visit to the Gulf in May, US President Donald Trump made a surprise announcement that he would revoke sanctions on Syria. This week, he kept that promise. He signed an executive order on Monday to waive or review penalties, some of which have been in place for decades. The move comes as a relief for struggling Syrians after almost 14 years of a brutal civil war that has devastated their economy. For their transitional leader Ahmad Al Shara, it's a milestone that could give him the legitimacy that he and his Hayat Tahrir Al Sham-led government so desperately seek. But it also brings him new and complicated challenges. “President Trump wants Syria to succeed – but not at the expense of US interests,” the White House said, while establishing ties with Israel would be a priority. The question is, what pressures could this impose on the new Damascus government? In this episode of Beyond the Headlines, guest host Ban Barkawi looks at US interests in Syria and the fine line Mr Al Shara will have to walk to keep his people and the West happy. She speaks to Jihan Abdalla, The National's senior correspondent in Washington, and Omar Dahi, director at Security in Context. Editor's Note: We want to hear from you! We tackle the sudden and rapidly-shrinking landscape of government arts funding - and what it means for organizations trying to stay afloat without compromising their values. From disappearing grants to the risks involved for the artists and companies that are sitting out (and speaking out), this conversation is candid, urgent, and eye-opening. But amid the challenges, we also take a hopeful look toward solutions to help change the tide. A tough topic, but one worth confronting - the future of the arts may depend on it.
A rock & roll marionette artist that brings to life the iconic rock performances of Jimmy Hendrix, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson and others by pulling a few strings. Lee also entertained the cast and crew at the Seinfeld final wrap party and has done command performances for many dignitaries and celebrities such as the Sultan of Brunei, Hugh Hefner, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Frank Zappa and Guns 'N' Roses. Since 1998, Lee has been a performer/instructor at numerous circus camps, including the Winnipeg International Children's Festival Circus and Magic Partnership, (CAMP) a circus arts program designed to help kids-at-risk.
