They arrived at Sinai in the third month on the very day (Ex. 19:1).  Exo 19:1 In the third month after the sons of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that very day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. Hebrew “on that very day” means they arrived on the third day of the third month exactly 50 days after their first Passover meal in Egypt. The feast of Shavuot is to happen on the 50th day after the weekly sabbath during Passover and Unleavened Bread (Lev. 23:15-16). Both involved similar sounds and symbols, such as wind, fire, and voices (Ex. 19:16-19; Acts 2:1-3). Note that the Hebrew for "thunder" (kolot) means "voices" (Acts 2:4). Jewish tradition said that the Israelites heard God speak in 70 languages or, to translate direct from the Hebrew, God spoke in tongues! Both events involved the presence of God (Ex. 19:18,20; Acts 2:4). About 3,000 people died because of their sin when Moses received the Torah (Ex. 32:28). About 3,000 people believed (were born again into new life) when the Spirit came (Acts 2:41). At Mount Sinai, God wrote his revelation on stone tablets (Ex. 31:18). On the fulfillment of Pentecost, God wrote his law on people's hearts as he had promised He would (2 Cor. 3:3; Jer. 31:33). Torah means "teaching." The Spirit, given on Shavuot, also became the "Teacher" of the new community of Jesus' followers (John 14:26) Many Jews from all over the world heard their own language from a bunch of kids, young men and women, who only knew Aramaic, Greek and Hebrew. The whole world heard the Gospel!! It was as if it was SINAI REPEATED!! Both events were times when God's people entered a NEW covenant with the Lord. Israel became a new nation, a nation of priests, and nation that would be the light of the world (Ex. 19:6, Isa. 49:6).  And, for us, we have entered a NEW covenant with the Lord as we take the cup of Messiah in His Last Seder meal (Luke 22:20).  We too become a new people, a new nation, a royal priesthood (1 Pet. 2:9-10).  We to are to be the light of the world (Mat.5:14, Acts 1:7-8).  But, this time, this covenant is the covenant to restore all people to Himself as our sins our totally cleansed and forgiven.  This is the final covenant for Jew and Gentile to become one flock with one shepherd, the Good Shepherd, the Messiah Jesus (John 10:14-16). On Shavuot there is a special sacrifice. Amazingly it uses two loaves of LEAVENED BREAD (Lev. 23:17). Is God giving us a picture that Jew and Gentile are a new people, a new culture, a holy nation, His two flocks coming together as ONE permeated and saturated with His Holy Spirit dwelling in us and through us? Is God helping us see that His Bible is ONE book, about ONE God, about ONE Gospel, ONE Baptism, and ONE Savor of all – Yeshua!   Who is this guy, Rev. In this episode, we kick things off at the nation's busiest container gateway, where frontloading is fueling a massive early peak season surge. The Port of Los Angeles handled over 840,000 TEUs in May, up seventeen percent from a year ago, driven by strong inventory replenishment, concerns about fuel costs, trade-policy uncertainty, and preparation for upcoming retail seasons. Loaded imports surged twenty-six percent year-over-year, rebounding sharply from May 2025 when import traffic was severely undercut by Liberation Day tariffs on China. Meanwhile, the truckload market's upswing is officially ushering in driver pay hikes across the sector. Joliet-based carrier GP Transco increased pay for all company drivers by five cents per mile, pushing the upper end to seventy-two cents per mile, while Dubuque's Hirschbach announced a ten-cent per mile increase for over-the-road drivers. A supply-led trucking recovery has prompted the need for enhanced driver pay and perks, with heightened regulatory enforcement purging noncompliant drivers from the market since last fall. Finally, the Federal Railroad Administration is greenlighting expanded testing of high-tech track inspection systems as Class I railroads prepare for a major safety upgrade. The FRA recently approved a five-year waiver that lets railroads expand the use of Automated Track Inspection technology, which uses lasers, cameras, sensors, and ground-penetrating radar to scan tracks for defects. ATI — the educational arm of Bill Gothard's IBLP — shut down in 2021. The organization that spent decades providing curriculum to homeschooling families including the Duggars ceased operations without remediation, without outreach to former students, and without any institutional acknowledgment of the educational gaps it created. The adults it produced are still rebuilding.This week's True Crime Today review examines the most consequential conversations from our series on the Duggar family curriculum — the ideological architecture of the Wisdom Booklets, the institutional reach of the Character First program, and the measurable outcomes for adults who completed the full IBLP educational track.The curriculum's law and government modules framed democratic governance without divine authority as utopianism. The French Revolution was presented as a consequence of collective disobedience to God. Illness was attributed to failures of spiritual submission. The authority structure that governed the entire system concentrated power in a single individual — Bill Gothard — while requiring total compliance from everyone beneath him. The Character First program extended this framework into public school systems by repackaging obedience-based theology as secular character education.The educational outcomes document the cost. Former students report math instruction that ended at fractions. ACT scores achieved without any corresponding GPA that higher education institutions would recognize. Professional credentials — including law degrees obtained through IBLP-adjacent institutions — that proved nonfunctional in practice. Adults who lacked basic understanding of their own physiology into their twenties. The system produced compliance. It did not produce competence. Survivors of the Institute in Basic Life Principles describe a recovery process measured in decades rather than months. Former members report entering marriages through courtship systems that prevented independent evaluation of potential partners, receiving educations through the Advanced Training Institute curriculum that left them unable to meet standardized testing requirements, and experiencing faith crises that extended beyond organizational departure to fundamental theological reconstruction. Multiple survivors have reported harassment from Gothard's remaining loyalists after speaking publicly, and Gothard himself publicly characterized his accusers as participants in a conspiracy. Jinger Duggar Vuolo has described her recovery as a process of separating her personal faith from Gothard's doctrinal framework. Recovering Grace continues to operate as a support community for adults raised inside ATI.The organizational and political infrastructure Gothard built over five decades remains substantially intact. IBLP at its peak reported approximately sixty-three million dollars in earnings according to public tax filings. The organization maintained properties across multiple states and operated in over a dozen countries. Gothard's political strategy — internally designated the Joshua Generation — aimed to place homeschooled young people into government positions. The political connections were documented and operational: governors attended IBLP conferences, a member of Congress served on the organization's board, and Hobby Lobby founder David Green purchased properties for IBLP's use including a former college campus in East Texas that now serves as the organization's headquarters.Josh Duggar, raised within the IBLP system, worked as a lobbyist for the Family Research Council in Washington and was later convicted on federal charges related to child sexual abuse material, receiving a sentence of twelve and a half years.Gothard, ninety-one, resigned from IBLP in 2014 after thirty-four women accused him of misconduct and inappropriate behavior, with some alleging the conduct occurred when they were minors. An internal investigation found he had acted "inappropriately." He has never been criminally charged. In June 2025, the Texas Supreme Court denied IBLP's petition to dismiss a lawsuit alleging its teachings were designed to facilitate conditions enabling abuse. Joseph Duggar was arrested in March 2026 on Florida felony charges of lewd and lascivious behavior on a child under twelve. He is presumed innocent. IBLP continues to operate from its Texas headquarters. Its curriculum and teachings remain available. The homeschool legal infrastructure developed in part through IBLP's advocacy network remains operative. Freedom felt like drowning. That's what former IBLP members describe when they talk about the first months and years after leaving. Not relief. Disorientation. The collapse of the only framework they'd ever had for understanding the world.The Institute in Basic Life Principles was designed to be total. It governed education, relationships, marriage, dress, thought, and spiritual identity. When someone left, they didn't just lose a belief system. They lost every relationship, every social structure, and every metric by which they understood their own value.Women who entered marriages through IBLP's courtship system found themselves in relationships they couldn't evaluate independently — and when those relationships became abusive, the theology told them submission was faithfulness and divorce was catastrophe. They had no work experience that translated. They lacked foundational knowledge the outside world took for granted.And the harassment followed them out. Survivors who spoke publicly were called liars and accused of working for Satan. Gothard himself dismissed his accusers as conspirators.Recovering Grace, founded in 2011 by adults raised inside ATI, remains the primary support network.
