Metalheads!! Gabe dons his leather jacket, lights a filterless cigarette, and rides out on his motorcycle to bring us this Italian album.
Metalheads!! Ben welcomes us to a Violence Dimension in his pick for an album released in April.
Metalheads!! Tracey's pick for an album released in April is a Colorado melodic tech death release.
Metalheads!! Tracey wanted us to finish off the offerings for Oceans of Slumber that we hadn't reviewed. So here it is.
Metalheads!! It's time for a totally tubular romp through the '80s metal scene.
Metalheads!! Things get weird, and we have a guest pick the band and the albums for this episode.
Metalheads!! Another long play for your long weekend. This time, we are talking about proto-metal albums from before each of us was born.
Metalheads!! Old head Ben is back at it (sadly, the it isn't editing or uploading on time) and has chosen more 1990s metal to inflict on the pod.
Metalheads!! It is a long weekend and Ben finally got off his ass to upload stuff. As you celebrate (or mourn, given what is going on), July 4th, here is another heaping helping of our nonsense. Tracey's concept for this bag is to pick something that the person after you will give an A.
Metalheads!! Gabe's pick for an album released in March is the latest by Teutonic thrash legends Destruction!
Metalheads!! Ben has been slacking, and after a long hiatus, we return with a backlog of album reviews for your approval. First up is Gabe's pick for a discography blast, the Japanese experimentalists, Boris.
Welcome back, comic crusaders and digital daredevils! This week on Play Comics, we're diving into the gloriously chaotic world of Heavy Metal: Geomatrix for the Sega Dreamcast—a game that asks, “What if Heavy Metal magazine became a button-mashing arena brawler with enough explosions to make Michael Bay jealous?” Released by Capcom in 2001 and featuring the wild art of Simon Bisley, this four-player deathmatch extravaganza throws you into a 23rd-century future where VR-addicted humanity battles it out in submerged cities, all while capturing the magazine's signature blend of sci-fi, fantasy, and “did my mom just see that?” moments. Joining us for this high-octane journey through neo-cyberspace mayhem is none other than our beloved returning guest Billy – yes, the same mysterious internet hermit who graced us with his presence during our previous mecha-focused episodes covering Gundam Battle Assault 2 and Gundam Wing: Endless Duel. Billy's back to help us navigate the testosterone-fueled battlegrounds of teams like the 818 Stompers, 991 Elite, 707 Metal Heads, and 323 Agents, because apparently in the future, gang names are just random numbers followed by edgy nouns. So grab your favorite energy drink, prepare your best robot voice impressions, and settle in for another episode where we discover if this Dreamcast gem was a faithful adaptation or just an excuse to watch scantily-clad warriors duke it out with bazookas and laser swords in the name of preserving humanity. With Billy's expert commentary on all things giant robot-adjacent, this promises to be more entertaining than watching someone try to explain the plot of Heavy Metal magazine to their grandmother! Learn such things as: Can nano-technology make terrible character names sound cooler? Is it possible to have too many weapons in one arena, or is that just quitter talk? How many metal bands does it take to make a video game soundtrack truly “heavy”? And so much more! You can find Billy nowhere online because he's a hermit who hides out in those secret places of the internet that only we know about. If you want to be a guest on the show please check out the Be a A Guest on the Show page and let me know what you're interested in. This episode we welcome back Dennis Mikula of Ghost Bath! Rock Soldiers! This one is for the Metal Heads! But it's also for the Horror Freaks! Mike Schiff is here to talk about his amazing documentary The History of Metal and Horror. We dive into what brought this documentary about, his love of horror, how he got into metal himself, and how these two things seemingly have always gone hand in hand. Within his documentary you'll hear from guests we've also had here on ABAOpod such as Wednesday 13, Michael Berryman, Ace Von Johnson, and CJ Graham as well as some favorites of our listeners like Chris Jericho! So sit back and enjoy a little glimpse into The History of Metal and Horror!
Interview by Kris PetersTwo of the most essential things in life would have to be heavy metal and food. Hands down. No argument. But what is actually better than metal or eating? Combining the two together, which is exactly what Brett Hoag and James Pulli have done with their revolutionary, entertaining and informative show, Metal Mastication. Since 2023, Hoag and Pulli have been producing quality content, interviewing bands and artists while cooking up a storm with a personally selected favourite dish from the guest of the day.It is a novel and unique concept, and also the first of its kind, so it is no wonder the show has developed a cult following in America that promises to break through to the rest of the world at any time. Over the years, Metal Mastication has hosted David Ellefson, Jeff Young, Tony Macalpine and Steve Unger, with Unger's heat sensitive Breasts Of Fire recipe marking itself down in history as one of the most intense dishes ever created for television. The recipe was so good, in fact, that when HEAVY spoke with Metal Mastication earlier today, Unger made a special trip from his home base to Los Angeles just to run it through with us on this side of the world."Hell, Masticators and Metalheads in Australia, it's so good to be here with you guys," Hoag began the conversation, introducing the show as well as himself. "My name is Brett, and I host Metal Mastication. We are the only heavy metal interview show set in the kitchen. Where do the best conversations happen in your house, Kris?""The toilet?" HEAVY replied, before changing our answer to the kitchen."The kitchen, yeah, you're correct," Hoag laughed. "And so that's where the idea came from, and we've done 19 episodes. We have eight on our YouTube channel, and right now we are in the quarter-finals of the Colossus Favourite Chef 2025 competition. It benefits the James Beard Society, which brings equity and sustainability to professional kitchens. If we win this competition, it will allow us to buy a food truck and go to metal festivals as well. Now, say you're at a metal festival, and you're there to see Metal Church, for example. I know they're really huge in Australia, they're huge all over the world. So you see our food truck there, and you go, wow, that's fun. That's a cool logo, that's a cool purple truck. You walk up to get something, and behind the counter in the food truck is none other than Steve Unger, the bass player, the Metal Hall of Fame bass player from Metal Church."The session focused on the unique concept of blending heavy metal music with cooking, featuring discussions about the show's premise and a cooking demonstration. Brett highlighted the show's innovative format, which combines interviews with heavy metal musicians in a kitchen setting. Steve Unger discussed his signature dish, Breasts of Fire, and expressed enthusiasm for connecting with Australian fans. The conversation included humorous anecdotes about cooking and the challenges of using spicy ingredients, with Brett noting that all necessary ingredients are provided for guests to enhance their cooking experience.HEAVY inquired about the origins of the show, prompting Brett to recount how it began two years ago after discussions with Billy Sheehan about cooking on social media. He emphasized that while cooking is a component, the primary focus remains on interviews and conversations with guests, while Steve provided an update on Metal Church's hiatus while also discussing his involvement in other projects and more.Don't forget to vote for Brett and Metal Mastication here: https://favchef.com/2025/brett-Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

As dedicated Metalheads, we all have those special albums near and dear to our Metal Hearts. I'm talking that collection of songs that changed our lives. Even getting coffee or going on beer runs would've been cool. So... The post Radioactive Metal 819: Turning The Knobs appeared first on Shining Wizards Network.
As dedicated Metalheads, we all have those special albums near and dear to our Metal Hearts. I'm talking that collection of songs that changed our lives. It got us thinking how cool it would have been to be in the studio when these masterpieces took shape. Either as a fly on the wall or giving our 2 cents. Even getting coffee or going on beer runs would've been cool. So this week we share our choices for such ventures. To help us out why not enlist a guy who knows his way around a studio. Mr. Matt Copper is our co-host with our sister show, Wrestling Night in Canada. More importantly, he's the main man behind his home studio, Atomic 29 Productions. In our "News, Views and Tunes", we have some cool gear talk and the goings on in the Exodus camp. Musically, we crank some Raven, DRI, Whipstriker, Mayhem (80s), Twin Temple, Mother of Graves, Rotting and we introduce German trad metallers Hornado. Horns Up!
We wrap up the year by talking about our three metal albums of 2024! Joining us for this episode, is Ben's very old friend: Jono! The man who turned Ben on to underground metal when they were barely teens in the very early 80s. It was awesome to have Jono join us and hear about his top 3 metal records of the year in the first 90 minutes of the cast. We all had different top 3s! We then turn to honorable mentions, our favorite metal, non-metal, and metal adjacent live shows of 2024, and the metal records we look forward to cranking on the HEAVYS the most in 2025! So crack open the new Dark Earth Mead--a collaboration between BY THE HORNS--the incredible comic book Markisan writes--and the Brimming Horn Meadery. This nectar of gods is a 14% AVB honey wine with dragon fruit and vanilla aged in oak barrels!!! See Ben's and Jeff's Top 10 of 2024 here! Ben's Top 11-20 of 2024 here, Top 21-30 of 2024 here and 31-40 of 2024 here!!! Markisan's incredibly detailed Top 40 with Bandcamp links for every album on the Metalheads podcast site! Enjoy!
