Stephen Graham Jones is a prolific author (and, as the boys learn, NOT the editor for the Best New Horror) whose work has garnered awards and praise from literary and genre-centric sources alike. Today, Jeremy and Trevor sit down to discuss the author's phenomenal work, The Only Good Indians, and Trevor learns the difference between deer and elk, while Jeremy discovers negative viewership. I know it's a little early for a Christmas announcement with Halloween just around the corner, but when Clive Barker is involved it doesn't matter what holiday it is. At this year's Brighton's original Ghost Stories for Christmas- 'Now We are Six', Barker's short story The Departed will be apart of the horrific tales to be theatrically performed that will also include stories by classic horror authors Joan Aiken and Ramsey Cambpell. The event will start on Thursday 20th - Saturday 22nd December 2018 and will take place at the Lantern Theatre. Tickets are only £10 which also includes a piece mince pie or a glass of mulled wine or juice. And the best part about the event is that all proceeds will be donated to the Brighton Alzheimer's Society. You can't beat an evening of horror tales, mince pie, and wine. That's the perfect evening I say. So for our listeners who live in the area make sure to go check it out. ["The Departed" (also known as "Hermione and the Moon") first appeared in the New York Times on the 30th of October, 1992, and one day later in the UK in The Guardian Weekend Magazine. It has since appeared in Year's Best Fantasy and Horror, Sixth Annual Collected in 1993 and Best New Horror, Volume 4. This is where I have it.~Ryan Danhauser] For more information and to buy your tickets please visit Ghost Stories for Christmas official website ghoststoriesforchristmas.com. Thanks to Clive Barker: Revelations Facebook for sharing.
We mentioned this briefly on Episode 190 of the Clive Barker Podcast, but there's another charity anthology, also featuring Clive Barker's halloween story, "The Departed". We had previously mentioned it will be available in the charity anthology Ghost Stories for Christmas. It is also coming soon to another anthology as well. This anthology, Dark Places Evil Faces Volume II will be available on Halloween from Dark Terror Publications. It will feature Clive's story, "The Departed" started off the book, and also great horror authors; Ramsey Campbell, Joe R. Lansdale, Mark Lumby, Graham Masterson, Jack Ketchum, Joe X Young and C.H. Baum. It also features a tribute to the late Jack Ketchum by Wrath James Wright. The book is compiled by Mark Lumby, edited by Lisa Tee Tone. Cover art by Tomisalv Tikulin and illustrations by Joe X. Young. You can pre-order it on Amazon Kindle, or wait for the paperback. Proceeds for the sale go to Rethink Mental Illness. “The Departed” (also known as “Hermione and the Moon”) first appeared in the New York Times on the 30th of October, 1992, and one day later in the UK in The Guardian Weekend Magazine. It has since appeared in Year's Best Fantasy and Horror, Sixth Annual Collected in 1993 and Best New Horror, Volume 4. This is where I have it. These books are out of print, and collectors should jump at the change to get this edition if you missed out on this broody Halloween story of Clive's before. Thanks to Joe X. Young for contacting us with this news.
*Explicit Content* In this episode we read - once again - out of, "The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror 23"! Happy Halloween...AGAIN! Another month is in the books ladies and gentleman, that's right, 2018 is that much closer. Thinking of your resolutions yet? Me either. I say, worry about the present. The verb present, which is what you are receiving with another episode of, Short Story Bingo! This story, is my favorite to date. "Dancing Like We're Dumb" is written by Peter Atkins, who also wrote, Hellraiser: II, III, IV! In a very modern tale in LA, you can feel, smell, and picture vividly. I swear, this story had me from the first sentence, as it begins with a description of a carjacking in literally something that I would have wrote for like a GTA bit or something. It stays very compelling throughout, weaving in and out of the present and five hours before to detail how Kitty got in the position she is now. Please excuse my little sniffles every now and again, I am a tad under the weather but made sure to get this out for YOU, 'cause i'm a soldier and no mucus will hold me down! Having said that, press play, enjoy, like, share, rate and subscribe! It really helps...at least that's what they say. #RandomTwitterFollowerShoutOut @singwithdoreene Buy the book. *Explicit Content* In this episode we read out of, "The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror 23"! I strolled my happy ass into Barnes and noble recently to go pick up, "The Art of the Donald". Seriously - I did. Instead I got lost in the short stories and damn mystery/horror section again. Mind you, after watching, "IT" I was itching to read something scary. So, in short, fuck you Donald, a short ass fictional story won that purchase escapade. I quickly was enthralled with all the new authors I was being introduced to, the new takes on horror, and just a big ass book full of content to introduce to you all! Mark Samuels has a very expansive vocabulary and a way to breakdown a location so well. "The tower" will show you that. In my attempt to pronounce words that I was just reading whilst also keeping pace with the momentus story line was a pleasure. This is a psychological thriller, which is not a spoiler, just saying don't expect anything all gory and overly apt to depict a ghoul that is at times way to over the top anyway. Having said that, press play, enjoy, like, share, rate and subscribe! It really helps...at least that's what they say. #RandomTwitterFollowerShoutOut ME! @gabinogrhymes Buy the book. Author Tim Pratt's stories have appeared in The Best American Short Stories,The Year's Best Fantasy, The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror, and other nice places. He has won the Hugo Award for his short fiction, and he's been a finalist for World Fantasy, Sturgeon, Stoker, Mythopoeic [myth-o-pee-ic], and Nebula Awards. He lives in Berkeley California with his wife, writer Heather Shaw, and their son. For more, visit www.timpratt.org. By day, narrator Andy Chen works as a Fire and Life Safety Officer with the State of California. Fire prevention approval for public school construction projects fills his day with building plans, code books, and marking up drawings. His interest in audio narration began with reading bedtime stories to his son and has blossomed into a full-blown philosophy of what makes a compelling story narration. Namely, to guide the flow and pace of the author's work and not distract the listener with "acting". He find narrating a mentally challenging activity, followed by endless hours of editing, which he finds oddly relaxing. Perhaps because it's similar to his day job, where he’s paid to find mistakes with a red Sharpie. Andy currently lives in San Francisco, and his contact info and demo can be found at VoiceOfAndy.com
