Lansdale con protagonisti i due detective ufficiosi più spudorati e irresistibili del Texas più delirante e sporco che abbiate mai visto (o letto).Questo è il mondo di Lansdale. E Hap e Leonard sono i suoi paladini. Prendere o lasciare.

From the Rose City Comic Con Program: The 70s saw a massive resurgence of the classic monster in a new and powerful way. From Blacksploitation films like Blacula and Sugar Hill where the vampire and zombie were used to talk to new generation, to Count Yorga who showed us a terrifying glimpse into a Manson like monster, and to the small screen with The Nightstalker...the classic creatures were brought back to (un)life in modern times and spoke to modern problems. This panel will cover the way pop culture turned gothic for inspiration and how these modern classics influence today's creators. Featuring Jessica Dwyer, Joe R. Lansdale, Derek M. Koch, and David Heath. Plus Mark Matzke's Beta Capsule Review (Ultraman Ace) and Kenny's Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland. The Charismatic Voice's Elizabeth Zharoff is our special guest for this week's edition of the MetalSucks Podcast! Here to promote her Kickstarter campaign for the first ever harsh vocal research study featuring some of our genres biggest names. Elizabeth tells us about the journey that started with Will Ramos of Lorna Shore two years ago. She also outlines some of the real stage consideration that will be taken into account, if there is a possibility to find some real damage on any of the participants, which vocal cords are the easiest to damage for a vocalist, and how this science will help doctors with vocal therapy in many cases. We also discuss her opinion on vocalists that use backing tracks in music and if she'll declare a favorite band from all the artists the participate in the research. Petar and Jozalyn discuss the whirlwind announcement of Linkin Park reuniting, how the single and new vocalist where initially received, followed by a questionable decision made to support a convicted predator, if this will derail the momentum of Linkin Park reuniting. Additionally, we celebrate James Hetfield working in a film version of the excellent Joe R. Lansdale novel The Thicket, and Nita Strauss crossing nine years of sobriety. Scotty talks to Bram Stoker and Shirley Jackson Award-winning author, editor, anthologist, and publisher Eric J. Guignard about growing up in sunny southern California, how his early interest in "Hardy Boys" adventure novels combined with his fascination with the short horror tale to craft his own unique sensibility, and how--after the 2008 financial crash--he finally decided to pursue his dreams of becoming a writer. Scotty and Eric then do a deep dive into Eric's award-winning collection ""That Which Grows Wild: 16 Tales of Dark Fiction" (2018, Cemetary Dance), and discuss Eric's Stoker-nominated novel "Doorways to the Deadeye" (2019, Journalstone) Eric also talks about taking over and operating the horror press Dark Moon Books, his passion for publishing quality fiction anthologies, and what it's like editing legendary authors like Joe R. Lansdale and Bentley Little. And, of course, they spend a few minutes at the end talking about a movie. This time the film in question is the underrated direct-to-video prequel "From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter"--a surprisingly effective mashup of the Spaghetti Western and the B-vampire flick. Enter Boogeyman was sent to me for review by Acheron International: Thank you, Melina! While I am late in getting the news and review out, there are still 4 days left to go if you want to fund the printing of this anthology. Poppy Z. Brite wrote an illuminating introduction... and we will need it to see by down these dark halls wherein the boogeyman dwells. There are 18 stories about various boogeys ~ and four of the eighteen stories are reprints: the ones by Stephen King, Joe R. Lansdale, Ramsey Campbell, and Richard Chizmar. If the introduction and knowledge doesn't chase the haints away, it glows in th dark too, so that may light your way. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/acheronint/enter-boogeyman-the-horror-anthology I also get into other boogeymen: from the recent film from a story by Stephen King and even The Halloween film franchise. From wikipedia, "The Boogeyman is a 2023 American supernatural horror film directed by Rob Savage from a screenplay by Scott Beck, Bryan Woods, and Mark Heyman and a screen story by Beck and Woods. It is based on the 1973 short story of the same name, by Stephen King.[6] The film stars Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina, Vivien Lyra Blair, and David Dastmalchian." It is on Hulu and Disney and I rented it on Itunes. We even get to talk once more about "Becoming the Boogeyman" by Richard Chizmar which is "genuinely chilling and something brand-new and exciting” (according to Stephen King) and comes out October 10 as the follow up to the successful "Chasing the Boogeyman". Chizmar also has an entry in Enter Boogeyman. It all came together after a little Carpenter movie marathon and I realized I'd not said, read or heard the word boogeyman more in the last few days than I had over my entire life. Obviously you've seen hundreds of movies in which a fame weary Elvis Presley didn't die and in fact switched places at the peak of his stardom with an impersonator, the real King of Rock and Roll instead winding up in a convalescence home with a cancerous lump on his penis alongside an African American John F. Kennedy, skin dyed by the C.I.A. and with portions of his brain replaced by sand, teaming up to fight the mummified remains of an Egyptian Pharaoh but BUBBA HO-TEP is the best and least typical one. PHANTASM director Don Coscarelli puts down the psychic metal death orbs for a moment to deliver an adaptation of Joe R. Lansdale's novella which turns out to be a surprisingly thoughtful meditation on aging and fading sexuality, lamenting the lack of dignity afforded to those in declining health and reminding us that being old does not make you worthless as well as giving us some good gags, some very silly special effects and that deliciously preposterous plot. All that and featuring the always beloved Bruce Campbell and, improbably, civil rights activist Ossie Davis. We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. Cold in July is a 2014 American independent crime thriller film directed by Jim Mickle, written by Mickle and Nick Damici, and starring Michael C. Hall, Sam Shepard, and Don Johnson. The film takes place in 1980s Texas and is based on the novel Cold in July by author Joe R. Lansdale. Hall plays a man who kills a burglar, whose father (Shepard) subsequently seeks revenge. The plot is further complicated when a private investigator (Johnson) shows up. Beyond the Gates is a 2016 American horror film directed by Jackson Stewart and starring Barbara Crampton. It premiered on June 2, 2016, at the Los Angeles Film Festival where it won the audience award in the festival's midnight section.
