Paul Gregory describes events on November 23rd when Margarite Oswald called Pete Gregory seeking shelter after she and Marina were essentially abducted by Life magazine. Pete notified Secret Service agent Mike Howard, who moved Marina, Margarite, and the two babies to the Six Flags Inn for interrogation. Margarite immediately began campaigning, demanding her "hero" son be rehabilitated as an innocent CIA/FBI agent. Pete's presence was vital, as Marina feared the Secret Service were the KGB. A crucial interrogation point was the famous photo of Lee with his rifle; Marina was reluctant to confess she took it, fearing reprisal. During the descending miles of this year's Leadville Heavy Half, I started chatting with a fellow runner and before long discovering Scott Tish's inspiring story that included his experiences as an air ambulance helicopter pilot and as a five-time cancer survivor. Scott's battles led him to some dark places, but he emerged on the other side with a reinvigorated view on life and gratitude for the mere opportunity to go out and run every day, much less complete races as challenging as the Heavy Half. He attributes a lot of his rebound to his wife, Pam, who gave him the tough love needed to move forward with his life and find again how running is some of the best medicine anyone can take. Scott's journey in the Army also gave him the very rare privilege of being a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. The House must vote on the bill to end the shutdown as soon as Wednesday before the president can sign it into law and reopen the government. Meanwhile, Democrats have already signaled that they'll stick to their demands when funding runs out again in January, raising the possibility of another shutdown.President Donald Trump laid a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery to commemorate the sacrifices of American veterans. The president also proclaimed Veterans Day “Victory Day” for World War I and vowed to bring back “the winning spirit of the United States military.”As tensions continue to rise between the United States and Venezuela, an American aircraft carrier strike group arrived in Latin American waters today, while Venezuela carried out military drills.

President Donald Trump is marking Veterans Day on Tuesday with a new proclamation honoring America's service members. Trump will also lay a wreath and deliver remarks at Arlington National Cemetery. The president called upon federal, state, and local officials to display the flag of the United States and participate in patriotic activities in their communities.Trump is taking his dispute with magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll to the Supreme Court. On Monday, Trump asked the nation's highest court to review the $5 million civil judgment against him. Trump's lawyers argued that the judge in that trial made a number of errors.

Arlington National Cemetery is one of the most well-known cemeteries in the world. It's just outside Washington, DC. 400,000 military veterans and their families are buried there. The most famous tomb of all is also there, the tomb of The Unknown Soldier.  Nobody knows this soldier's identity.  Do you sometime feel that nobody knows you either? Sisters, brother enlisted during Vietnam For Victoria Ryan, Veterans Day on Tuesday (Nov. 11) will once again evoke memories of the 35 years the Beacon native and her siblings, Deborah and Bill, collectively served in the U.S. Army. Bill joined first, in 1970, followed by Deborah in 1973. Victoria, at the urging of her mother, enlisted just a few months after her sister. Victoria remembers Bill as "laid back, easygoing, athletic and serious minded." At the height of the Vietnam War, he enlisted rather than waiting to be drafted. A field artillery surveyor, he reached the rank of specialist and served in Germany until being discharged in late 1973. He died in a car accident in 1978 at age 25. "Bill had enrolled at University of Tennessee; he wanted to take mechanical engineering," Victoria recalled. Deborah, prior to joining the military, had worked for three years as a model. In the Army, she became the first woman to serve as a military police officer (MP) at West Point, a distinction that earned her a profile in the New York Daily News. Deborah explained to the newspaper why she had enlisted: "We were at war and the men were fighting. Why shouldn't I?" In a 2025 newsletter published by Together We Served, an organization that helps veterans stay connected and chronicles their stories, Victoria told the group how proud she was of her sister. "She pursued a law enforcement career in the Army and was deeply serious about her duties," she said. Early in her posting to West Point, Deborah pulled an officer over for speeding, Victoria recalled. "Do you know who I am?" the officer asked arrogantly. Deborah responded: "Sir, please do not confuse your rank with my authority." Deborah served in the Army until 1990. Her career included stops in Europe and Korea, and she rose to the rank of warrant officer in the criminal investigation division. She died in 2016 at age 61. "Although she was four years younger than me, I always looked up to her in many ways," Victoria said. "She died a proud veteran." Deborah's daughter, Leslie Ann Martell, a West Point graduate, served in Afghanistan and now serves in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Victoria went on to earn the rank of staff sergeant and served in the Army until 1988. In the mid-1970s, she and Deborah were both posted at West Point, where they "had a lot of great times," said Victoria. "We played tennis, had lunch together and went to Army football games; Deborah loved those games." She also recalled happy get-togethers with Deborah, Bill and their parents at the family's Beacon home during that period. While stationed at West Point, Victoria worked in administration for the third regiment Corps of Cadets. Her career also took her to Hawaii, Holland and numerous posts across the mainland U.S. Like her sister, Victoria was not afraid to speak her mind. During a physical training program at Fort Myers, Virginia, she was appalled that early morning runs were conducted in Arlington National Cemetery. She protested up the chain of command, all the way to the sergeant major of the Army. To her "astonished relief," the runs ceased. "I felt shame, embarrassment and guilt for my part in disrespecting this revered and sacred cemetery," said Victoria. "I needed to take a stand." Her saddest military experience came during her final assignment in the Army casualty office. In 1986, a DC-8 bringing personnel stationed in Egypt home to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, crashed after taking off from Gander International Airport in Newfoundland, killing all 248 passengers and the eight crew members. Calling it "the worst peacetime military aircraft disaster in the history of the U.S. Army," Victoria said her office spent months identifying all the bodies. "We told our people out in the field where to go, who to speak to and exactly, word for word, what to say to the next of kin about their loved one passing away," she said. Arlington National Cemetery is one of the most solemn and significant places in the United States, honoring those who have served in the nation's military. Established during the Civil War, it now holds the graves of over 400,000 service members, veterans, and their families. In this episode, explore its history, from its creation on the former estate of Robert E. Lee to its role today as a place of remembrance and national pride.

While people around the world mourned President John F. Kennedy after he was assassinated on November 22, 1963, there was a remarkable group of young men who had to perform an unimaginable mission: burying their Commander in Chief. In this episode of The White House 1600 Sessions, White House Historical Association president Stewart McLaurin speaks with James L. Felder, who was a U.S. Army Sergeant when he led the Honor Guard Ceremonial Unit that buried President Kennedy. Felder helped carry and protect the casket of President Kennedy from the moment his body returned from Texas, until the moment he was buried at Arlington National Cemetery on November 25, 1963. It was a solemn burial ceremony, and what took place at the very end could have been lost to history: the members of the Honor Guard, in a powerful, spontaneous gesture of respect, removed their hats and laid them around the wreath that adorned the president's grave. That gesture meant so much to the Kennedy family that they commissioned a sculpture of the wreath and hats with the idea that it would eventually adorn President Kennedy's permanent gravesite. While people around the world mourned President John F. Kennedy after he was assassinated on November 22, 1963, there was a remarkable group of young men who had to perform an unimaginable mission: burying their Commander in Chief. In this episode of The White House 1600 Sessions, White House Historical Association president Stewart McLaurin speaks with James L. Felder, who was a U.S. Army Sergeant when he led the Honor Guard Ceremonial Unit that buried President Kennedy. Felder helped carry and protect the casket of President Kennedy from the moment his body returned from Texas, until the moment he was buried at Arlington National Cemetery on November 25, 1963. It was a solemn burial ceremony, and what took place at the very end could have been lost to history: the members of the Honor Guard, in a powerful, spontaneous gesture of respect, removed their hats and laid them around the wreath that adorned the president's grave. That gesture meant so much to the Kennedy family that they commissioned a sculpture of the wreath and hats with the idea that it would eventually adorn President Kennedy's permanent gravesite. The funeral industry is facing growing pressure to adopt scalable, sustainable alternatives that reflect both environmental and cultural shifts. What happens when we do run out of space? John has a mixed bag of news today. First, he discusses the latest with Trump's tariffs which seem to be growing every minute. Ezekiel was a Confederate soldier who spent much of his artistic career promoting the “Lost Cause” myth that the Civil War was just and heroic, and not a treasonous war fought to uphold slavery. John then interviews Dr. Kristin Lyerly, a practicing OBGYN based in Wisconsin, is a board member of the Committee to Protect Health Care – a national health care advocacy organization made up of thousands of doctors across the country fighting for access to care for their patients and holding politicians accountable, including President Trump. That's more arrests than the previous six months.  Christians in the Middle Eastern country are also facing increased hate speech since Iran's recent conflict with Israel. Many are seeking to paint Christians as co-conspirators with Israel.  Article18's executive director, Mansour Borji, commented, “We are very concerned for the well-being of all Iranian Christians … considering the past misuse of pseudo-legal provisions … to justify violence and punitive measures against this vulnerable community.” Hebrews 13:3 says, “Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also.” Russia rocked by 8.8-magnitude earthquake One of the largest earthquakes ever recorded struck  Russia's far east coast yesterday morning. The 8.8-magnitude quake sent tsunami waves at Russia and Japan. The waves also reached parts of Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast.  Millions of people were told to seek high ground. However, authorities downgraded their warnings after the threat of major tsunami waves subsided. Russia experienced some damage but reported no casualties.  China launches nationwide childcare subsidy China launched its first nationwide subsidy for childcare on Monday. The government will offer families 3,600 yuan per year for each child under the age of three. That's the equivalent to about $500 per child.  The central government is also urging local authorities to introduce free preschool education.  China is introducing these measures at it continues to suffer population decline as the result of its previous one-child policy.  America's fertility rate drops to new low Meanwhile, in the United States, the fertility rate dropped to a new low in 2024. New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found the fertility rate fell to 1.6 children per woman last year. The fertility rate declined for females in age groups 15-34, remained unchanged for women ages 35-39, and increased for women ages 40-44. U.S. economy grew by 3% The U.S. economy grew better than expected during the second quarter of this year. The Commerce Department reported gross domestic product increased at an annual rate of three percent during April, May, and June. That's up from a 0.5% decrease during the first quarter. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, calling for lower interest rates. He wrote, “2Q GDP JUST OUT: 3%, WAY BETTER THAN EXPECTED! . . . MUST NOW LOWER THE RATE. No Inflation! Let people buy, and refinance, their homes!” Obama-era climate regulation justified $1 trillion in regulations The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has proposed to rescind the 2009 Endangerment Finding. The Obama-era finding has been used for climate regulations like those on motor vehicle emissions. It justified over $1 trillion in regulations, including the Biden administration's electric vehicle mandate.  Republican U.S. Congressman Mark Messmer of Indiana said, “The Endangerment Finding has long been a Democrat tool to issue burdensome regulations that ignore commonsense science in pursuit of radical Green New Deal aligned agendas. I applaud … the entire Trump Administration for making sure we cut the red tape that is unnecessarily impeding American business.”  Adultery, cloning humans, suicide, and polygamy still considered morally wrong Gallup released their latest poll on Americans' opinions of the moral acceptability of 20 behaviors. The vast majority of U.S. adults still believe adultery, cloning humans, suicide, and polygamy are morally wrong. Respondents were more divided on abortion. Most Americans believe birth control, divorce, and premarital sex are morally acceptable.  These findings are generally similar to last year. However, views of the moral acceptability of abortion and “changing one's gender” are down compared to last year. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.” 250 years of U.S. Army Chaplains And finally, U.S. Army Chaplains celebrated 250 years of ministry this month. On July 29, 1775, the Continental Congress granted the request of General George Washington to establish an official position for military chaplains.  Since then, there have been 25,000 Army chaplains.
