How do we maximize the time that they've been generous enough to share with us so that trainers around the world can leave this episode armed with new and insightful information? In the case of Blake, he has an incredible ability to explain the nature of communication, relationships, learning theory with clients that is simply incredible. Hey everyone, Mariano here! Here's a question for you. What is your most successful method of introducing a training tool to an owner? Do you do it the moment that you have a strong inclination that this may be the best approach for that particular dog? Or do you prefer to gradually move your way through tools knowing all the while that you plan to aim for one in particular so that the clients can feel the need for the tool in a more natural way? It's a good question. On the one hand, you don't want to seem disingenuous, or like you've been "beating around the bush", by starting small. On the other hand, if you scare the client away before they ever give the tool a chance then you're not helping them at all. Brent and I have mixed feelings on this. We don't agree on everything, but we try to see the value in the others' approach. In this episode, we go over our respective approaches in regard to introducing training tools. The truth may lie somewhere in the middle, and the best approach will always depend on the trainer and their strengths and communication styles with clients. Join us as we discuss how we approach this topic, how we came about these ideas, and what we have yet to learn regarding this topic. Thanks for listening! You can reach us here:IG @ DOGTRAINERSPODCASTFacebook @ https://www.facebook.com/dogtrainerspodcastYouTube @ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCg2IfWrgJOIQQfHnwngnAJAEmail @ dogtrainerspodcast@gmail.comMariano AlvarezIG @ UNTAMEDDOGCOwww.untameddogco.comPhoenix, AZBrent LaBradaIG @ CANISBEHAVIORwww.canisdogtraining.comLos Angeles, CA

Hey everybody,Mariano here! Brent and I want to thank you for your support. We've been reaching out to trainers of all different viewpoints and methods. This is mainly because we notice the crazy amount of anger and vitriol that trainers of different beliefs can sling toward each other. The most popular examples of this are the two major "factions" in dog training today, force-free and balanced trainers. With this all being said, we have been looking into a way to open a line of dialogue between these two ideals. We figured the podcast was an excellent way to do exactly that! We, therefore, have a homework assignment for each of you. Please help us reach out to pure-positive trainers who you can think of who may be willing to have a civil conversation about where the training methods agree and disagree. We recorded this episode to serve as a sort of preparation for us and our listeners, We've based the topics of this episode on our current understandings of training as well as our current understandings of the arguments presented from both sides. Hey everyone, Mariano here! Brent and I are excited to bring you episode 25 of DTP. In this episode, we discuss the difficulties of dealing with clients when it comes to crate training. Often times owners can resist the idea of crating their dogs because they feel guilty about it. The issue there is that crate training has a ton of benefits for our dogs. These include benefits that help us in the training process, but they extend much further than that. Brent and I can't help but wonder if this is due to many trainers struggling to explain all of the benefits of crate training your dog. This is exactly why we figured we'd give it our best shot! We go over the benefits of the crate, tell some stories of clients, go over some hypotheticals, and much more! We hope that this brings value to anyone listening who may be wary of crating their dogs, or trainers who have a hard time explaining things to owners. Hey guys, Mariano here! In this episode, Brent and I wanted to talk in-depth about dealing with clients with aggressive dogs. Years of experience have taught us that dealing with aggressive dogs can be a tricky thing to do. Not only because of the dog but because sometimes the owners can present their own challenges as well. In this episode, we dive into this dense topic. We decided to do this by dividing things up into three categories. These are before, during, and after. Stay tuned as we give some helpful tips. We go into detailed examples. And much more. Welcome back, Guys! Mariano here again. After taking some time last episode to thank all of our amazing listeners we figured we'd dive right back into work with another deep-dive into the world of dog training. This week's topic is..... Dominance! Now, Brent and I are fully aware of just how touchy of a topic this is. As well as how complex and misconstrued it tends to be. This is exactly why we've decided to take a crack at it. In this episode, we look into what the public perception of dominance is, as well as the technical definition of it as to show just how far pop-culture has taken the term. We then do our best to describe dominance, and it's relevance to dog training. Mix this in with some tips and examples of good practices for an adequate understanding. As well as some examples of bad practices and what you should avoid. Some insightful stories from both of us and you've got what may be our personal favorite episode to date! Thanks for listening!P.s. Defining and describing dominance is NOT an easy task! with that in mind, we'll be revisiting this in the future with supplemental information that we think would be helpful for you all. Okay, guys!Time to get down to business. Having been in the dog training world for a while, Brent and Mariano have noticed something that is quite common among newer trainers. That is that they can be very competent in their understandings of each and every individual module that training dogs must learn. Yet despite this, they can often suffer from lack of understanding of exactly when or how they can progress the dog further into its training program. Moving a dog through its phases of training is something that varies so much from dog to dog. It can be difficult to put into words exactly what an experienced trainer looks for when deciding whether or not to push the dog further. that's where we come in!
