Moving through the 1st round, we reach the Red Wings' second top pick: Axel Sandin Pellikka 17th overall. We move on to the 2nd round, where we go over Yzerman's 3 picks (& a trade back), first, goaltender Trey Augustine out of the USNTDP (40:55), big, right-handed defenseman Andrew Gibson (47:55), and an even bigger, hard-hitting left-handed defenseman in Brady Cleveland, which leads to a passionate discussion on draft strategy, upside, & Detroit's lack of scoring talent (54:55). After that, Detroit drafts brother of Liam Dower Nilsson (2021 Red Wings pick), Noah Dower Nilsson, to start the 3rd round, adding scoring talent (1:04:55). In the 4th round, left-handed defenseman Larry Keenan (1:09:20), and in the 5th round RHD Jack Phelan (1:11:40) and intriguing German forward Kevin Bicker (1:13:20). Finally, we discuss the trade in which Yzerman acquired Klim Kostin & Kyler Yamamoto for "Future Considerations" from Ken Holland & the Edmonton Oilers, where both players could fit into the lineup, and if Yamamoto will even stay with the Red Wings (1:23:45). To wrap up, we discuss the Alex DeBrincat trade that never materialized on the draft floor, why Pierre Dorion hasn't pulled the trigger, other trades that never happened, free agency notes, Al Murray news, & lots more (1:31:55) before we take your question during Overtime (1:42:10) - enjoy this massive episode! Right after discussing it last episode, the Alex DeBrincat to Detroit Red Wings rumors heated up even more... Tune in as we open with Matthew Woods 2023 NHL Draft Prospect Profile, where we discuss whether the skilled but not-so-great-skating winger would be a suitable fit for Hockeytown or another Anthony Mantha-type. Would he be worth a 9th overall pick by Yzerman over the likes of Ryan Leonard, Oliver Moore, Dalibor Dvorsky, or others? Also, draft philosophy in terms of upside vs. safe picks, if Wood, Nate Danielson, Zach Benson, Tom Willander, Samuel Honzek,or others have the most upside, and lots more (3:10). Next, we take another look at the newly refreshed DeBrincat to Detroit rumors based on reporting by Elliottee Friendman of Sportsnet/32 Thoughts. What would it cost to trade for DeBrincat (Berggren? Soderblom? others involved?), and what would his contract demands be compared to Dylan Larkin's (24:50)? Next, a quick update on the Vegas Golden Knights taking a commanding lead over the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final (38:25) before some NHL news: Damon Severson's sign & trade (43:20), Rasmus Dahlin's rumored $10 million/year contract & how that affects Moritz Seider or Lucas Raymond's extensions (48:35), & lots more before we take your questions during Overtime (54:05) - enjoy! Would Steve Yzerman even consider taking a small defenseman after a history of drafting the likes of Moritz Seider & Simon Edvinsson? What about trading up for a Russian phenom in Matvei Michkov? Tune in as we open by discussing Axel Sandin Pellikka, a talented (albeit not big) right-handed Swedish defenseman whose offensive ability could be exactly what the Detroit Red Wings are looking for in a post-Filip Hronek era. Could he be a fit in Hockeytown? Should Yzerman draft him over the likes of Ryan Leonard, Oliver Moore, Gabe Perreault, Dalibor Dvorsky, Zach Benson, David Reinbacher, or others? All of that & more (3:00)! Next, we take a look at whether a trade in the 1st round is a possible option, especially with the like of Matvei Michkov, Will Smith, or Leo Carlsson potentially being available. We discuss the cost of the trade & whether it's at all likely, as well as whether it would be worth the premium (18:30). After that, a quick update on the Stanley Cup Final as the Golden Knights take down Tkachuk, Bobrovsky, & the Panthers in Game 1 (36:55), Kyle Dubas' hilarious team switch (41:15), & Gary Bettman's State of the NHL, in which he addressed the Arizona Coyotes situation, the the Senators sale, & the salary cap (46:10), & finally Mike Babcock's return to NHL coaching (52:30).
