In this episode, we sit down with a man whose life has been one hell of a ride—from growing up in a family of Hall of Fame jockeys to chasing the thrill of bull riding across the country. He's won races at insane odds, swapped the track for the rodeo, and even had a close call with a snake in the dark. Tune in as we talk about family legacies, the unpredictability of racing, and the kind of grit it takes to live life at full throttle. Plus, you won't believe what happened after he got bitten by a snake—spoiler: he kept riding bulls. It's a wild one, mate.#propertrueyarn Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Voice Of GO(r)D is very happy to start off 2025 by bringing you an in depth conversation with fellow trucker and previous guest of the show, Lee Schmitt, along with his wife Lisa. Lee has thrown his hat into the ring to become leader of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and we discuss why it would be only natural that someone with over 30 years of experience behind the wheel would be a better choice to head this extremely wasteful and ineffective agency. It is revealed that the FMCSA is ineffective because they've had no consistent leadership since their inception, and not once have they followed the DOTs own rules to be lead by someone with experience in the trucking business. Drivers can see this in their own working lives, and their workplaces out on the road. Our experiences tell us that it is clear the FMCSA is impervious to our concerns, as former head Robin Hutcheson refused to end an extremely unpopular mandate even after being shown that the mandate achieved the opposite of what it promised. You might have heard Lee and Lisa here before in discussing a trucker advocacy organization called CDL-DU, which Lee has since resigned his position from, and you may have seen him hosting the now infamous Trucker's Town Hall with Vivek Ramaswamy back in December of 2023. Hopefully if Lee becomes FMCSA head, he can talk some sense back into Mr Ramaswamy, and something can be done about the rampant abuse of work visas and illegal migrants in the trucking business as outlined here - https://autonomoustruckers.substack.com/p/truckers-tikka-masala You can find Lee and Lisa Schmitt on Twitter - https://x.com/LSchmitt_TAAWTS and if you are the sort to sign petitions, they have one over at Change.org which seeks to have the incoming administration consider Lee's application. Questions, comments, suggestions, corrections and Hate Mail are welcomed and encouraged - gordilocks@protonmail.com

Multiple Group 1 winning jockey and Racing TV analyst Martin Dwyer joins Emmet Kennedy for a hard-hitting breakdown of the BHA's controversial whip rules. The numbers are staggering: over a decade's worth of riding bans, with more than 40% of jockeys in violation of the new standards. But here's the twist - it's not the jockeys at fault. Emmet and Martin dive deep into the flawed system, calling out the BHA's role in this crisis. From the racetrack to the rulebook, this episode pulls no punches. Plus, a full debrief of Champions Day at Ascot, where Kyprios reigned supreme among the stayers. If you're looking for straight talk on the state of racing, you won't want to miss this. We love to hear from our listeners. Send us a message. SR One Capital Management CEO Simeon George, M.D. has a seemingly innate ability to pick winning biotech builders. Early on, he and his firm got behind CRISPR's Samarth Kulkarni, Ph.D., Arcellx' Rami Elghandour, and Nkarta's Paul Hastings, for example. With nearly 50 biotech leaders in SR One's portfolio, there are plenty more where those three came from. On this episode of the Business of Biotech, Dr. George, admits that despite his gifted brain he more readily follows his heart. Still, over the course of our conversation, he shares insight into the decision making processes that have contributed to his success at picking winners as an investment banker and biotech venture capitalist.
