“The Bright Side” 11/01/23A fair bit has changed since last week. The Penguins are dead last in the EC, Jarry's struggles appear to have worsened, and it feels like there's legitimate reason for concern. However, there are some bright spots up and down the Penguins' lineup, ones that might be clues to just how this team can turn it around. “Approved Vocabulary” 09/15/23Today marked the start of Penguins Hockey in 2023. In Buffalo, the Penguins' prospects took on those of the Boston Bruins, as part of the 2023 Prospects Challenge. Chris MacFarland threw meat to hungry wolves with his comments to Pierre LaBrun of The Athletic over the weekend when he said he was hoping captain Gabriel Landeskog could return for the playoffs. We aren't so sure that: #1 he can, #2 if he can, should he? And #3, why would MacFarland even make a comment like that at this stage of the season? The season that hasn't even started yet!? We discuss why that while, yes, this is a possibility, it would benefit the Colorado Avalanche to put Landeskog on the shelf for the entire season no matter how well he is progressing. We also learned that Avalanche skills coach Shawn Allard is no longer with the team. Normally, a skills coach leaving is not very big news. But Allard is a different skills coach, and one that several players look up to. We discuss why this is kind of a big deal. Finally, we look at the Avalanche nationally televised games this season. Some great matchups are on there and we discuss the ones we are looking forward to the most. Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, Mikko Rantanen and Cale Makar are the names associated with the Colorado Avalanche. They were all drafted in the decade that now defines who the Avalanche are today. But not every draft pick between 2010 and 2019 were home runs. Today we take a look at that decade and do a modified "re-drafting" of those years. The players we keep are pretty obvious, but who was available the same year the Avs took Connor Bleackley? Martin Kaut? What could have been is always a fun game to play. Tune in, subscribe and enjoy! Nick Kypreos, Justin Bourne, and Sam McKee open the show with reports of the Leafs' putting a full-court press on William Nylander for an extension, if Auston Matthews has an impact on Nylander to resign, and if there's pressure on Matthews to take a pay cut to help the team. Next up, Aarif Deen from Mile High Sports joins the show to break down the Avalanche's trade for Ryan Johansen, how he'll fare as a Gabriel Landeskog fill-in and what the Avs still have on their offseason docket. Later, some rumours around the league including Pierre-Luc Dubois' potential landing spots and Erik Karlsson requesting a trade. Finally, the guys wrap up the show reacting to breaking news of Taylor Hall being traded to the Chicago Blackhawks. Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche
Like every year, the Colorado Avalanche seems to be in the mix on some of the bigger names floating around that could possibly be on the move. After another early round exit for the Toronto Maple Leafs, many are feeling like it's time to blow the thing up and make some drastic changes. One of those changes could be trading away forward William Nylander who will be heading into the final year of his deal. And the name you heard a lot of on where he could go was the Avalanche. In years past, we would almost dismiss this talk. But with the knowledge that Gabriel Landeskog won't be available for next season, a drastic move on the Avalanche's part might need to be made as well. So for this offseason, all options might be on the table. It's what you would have to give up to get Nylander that is the hard part. Because it's likely something you don't want to do. An interesting offseason is right around the corner. Tune in, subscribe and enjoy!
