Luc Gélinas réagit à la situation de Samuel Montembeault : « Ton numéro un ne peut pas être assis sur le banc deux semaines », affirme-t-il, tout en estimant qu’on exagère le dossier à Montréal. Selon lui, St-Louis apprend à naviguer dans le marché montréalais et prend aujourd’hui de meilleures décisions qu’à ses débuts. Luc croit aussi que le CH devrait peut-être déjà avoir son futur deuxième centre à l’interne, en Michael Hage, et il vante le jeu complet de Juraj Slafkovsky, très engagé malgré des statistiques modestes. Stéphane Waite, pour sa part, commente le retour de Montembeault et les performances de Jakub Dobeš : « Il a été bon, mais pas dominant ». Dans cet épisode du Premier Trio, Alexandre Pratt, Stéphane Waite et Tony Marinaro livrent leurs premières impressions sur le début de saison du Canadien de Montréal, alors que l’équipe affiche un rendement encourageant après ses premiers matchs. Alexandre Pratt se montre satisfait de constater que la production offensive ne repose pas uniquement sur le premier trio. Toutefois, il s’interroge sur la performance de Patrik Laine à cinq contre cinq, un joueur dont le trio n’a généré que très peu de chances de marquer depuis le début de la saison. Il note également que le jeune gardien Jakub Dobeš, malgré quelques excès d’enthousiasme dans son style, parvient à faire le travail efficacement. Pratt soulève aussi une question intrigante : entre Zachary Bolduc, Patrik Laine et Juraj Slafkovsky, qui terminera la saison avec le plus grand nombre de buts? Son instinct le pousse à croire que ce sera Bolduc. Tony Marinaro, de son côté, reconnaît les difficultés de Laine à s’intégrer dans la dynamique actuelle de l’équipe, évoquant un manque de chimie avec certains coéquipiers. Selon lui, Laine est un joueur habitué à contourner le jeu plutôt qu’à s’imposer. Contrairement à Pratt, il demeure prudent face à la production de Bolduc en début de saison et mise plutôt sur Laine pour finir en tête parmi les trois. Il souligne également le rendement solide de Brendan Gallagher, qu’il considère comme un élément moteur dans ce début de campagne. Stéphane Waite partage une perspective technique en ce qui concerne Lane Hutson, qu’il juge moins dominant que la saison précédente, sans toutefois remettre en cause son potentiel. Il insiste sur le fait que Laine doit être utilisé de manière optimale sur la première unité en avantage numérique, où son tir représente un véritable atout. Waite s’attarde également au cas de Jakub Dobeš, qu’il voit possiblement émerger comme gardien numéro un à court terme. Il fait d’ailleurs un parallèle intéressant avec l’éclosion d’Antti Niemi à Chicago, à une époque où il était lui-même entraîneur des gardiens. Concernant la course aux buts, Waite penche lui aussi pour Bolduc et rappelle que Kapanen, souvent perçu comme un choix de profondeur, a tout de même été sélectionné au deuxième tour.
