Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown is sticking with Rickie Collins as his starting quarterback out of the Orange's bye week against Pittsburgh. Can Collins improve from generating nearly 19 points fewer against Power-Four competition for the Orange offense? According to Pro Football Focus, Collins has a turnover-worthy play percentage of 7.5 percent this season, which means that 7.5 percent of his drop backs this season have resulted in plays were likely to end in a turnover. That is the worst rate in the country among quarterbacks who have at least 100 drop backs this season. Despite playing in just four games and only starting two, Collins is tied for 19th in the country with five interceptions, according to PFF. Brent Axe discusses that and how Fran Brown handled a question about his name coming up for bigger jobs (in this case Penn State) at a recent press conference. Axe also chats with Chris Peak from Panther Lair to get a preview of the Pitt Panthers squad that comes to the JMA Dome on Saturday. Peak discusses how the Panthers made a significant quarterback change and how it has changed the trajectory of its season, the SU-Pitt series and what (if anything) SU can exploit in a matchup they come into as 10.5-point underdogs. Happy Valley is not so happy as of late. Preseason expectations of a deep CFP seem to be of a distant past after the firing of James Franklin on Sunday. Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey dive into how Penn State fell so fast and what led to the firing of a head coach whose team was ranked #3 just three weeks ago. Then the guys look at who Penn State should look to hire to be their new head coach. Should they try to poach big names like Alabama's Kalen DeBoer or Nebraska's Matt Rhule, or should they look at one of the hot new names like Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein or Syracuse head coach Fran Brown? The guys discuss what options are on the table.Later, there are more hurdles to now jump over for the Big Ten's attempt to get a private equity deal done. In Ross Dellenger's latest article, he explains why USC is now against signing a private equity deal. Ross is out today, but Andy and Godfrey break down what all is going on and if the Big Ten will, or even should, ever get a private equity deal done. Finally, the guys discuss a few notable topics from what we've been seeing on the field. First, they dive into the massive success, thus far, of Texas Tech. After an expensive offseason, it seems that all of the NIL investment is paying off. The Red Raiders are ranked seventh in the country and are currently undefeated going into Week 8. Andy and Godfrey discuss if they will face any hurdles in the Big 12, or if Texas Tech is going to run away with the conference. Then, they keep up the CFP talk but shift to a conference that will be fighting for a bid. The American Conference has been impressive this year, and the guys are convinced the winner of this conference will head to the CFP, but the question is who will that be? Four teams sit at the top with undefeated conference records currently. Navy, #22 Memphis, #19 USF and Tulane. Who will come away with the title and probably CFP berth? All of this and more on today's College Football Enquirer.(1:28) - What led to James Franklin's firing?(9:52) - Who should Penn State look to hire?(29:19) - The Big Ten's latest private equity issue in Southern California(44:43) - Texas Tech's Big 12 dominance(51:53) - The American Conference to the CFP? After nearly 400 conversations with Olympians, Paralympians, and trailblazing women athletes from 55 countries, one thing is clear: no two stories are alike. Some athletes train with world-class facilities, others without basic equipment. Some are household names, others are fighting for visibility in sports you've never even seen on TV. And yet, across all these differences, certain themes echo again and again. That's what this new Best Of series is all about—spotlighting both the range of experiences and the threads that connect them. We've pulled together the most powerful moments across years of conversations, including:✨ Best Advice to Younger Selves — from “give yourself grace to be a beginner” to “don't dim your light for anyone.” ✨ Best Stories of Resilience — tales of athletes coming back from devastating injuries, near-misses, and moments when the world doubted them most. ✨ Best Moments of Role Modelship — athletes lifting the next generation, mentoring teammates, and carrying entire communities with them to the world stage. ✨ Best Stories of Identity & Joy — how athletes embrace who they are on and off the field, from glitter on the track to pride in their heritage. and many more! You'll hear voices as different as the sports they represent, yet together, they reveal what it really takes to rise to the top. This isn't just one story. It's hundreds woven together. And this is just the beginning. In this episode we explore how elite women athletes define who they are in the face of pressure, expectation, and change. You'll hear Afghan taekwondo champion Marzia Hamidi confront what it meant to lose, and reclaim, her identity when the Taliban banned women from sport. Fran Brown, British Paralympic cyclist, pushes back on “inspiration porn” to assert her professionalism and agency. Asia Hogan-Rochester, Olympic silver medalist with Canada Rugby Sevens, celebrates individuality, glitter, mismatched cleats and all, as fuel for confidence. And Catarina Guimarães (Team USA) shows that power and femininity aren't opposites, reminding young girls they can love bows and sparkle and still be absolute beasts on the field. Together, these stories reveal identity as both a fight and a freedom, something you own, protect, and proudly bring to the world.Flame Bearers is a women's sports storytelling studio, illuminating the unsung stories of exceptional women athletes from around the world. Darien Rencher's last act as a Clemson football player was being a part of a team that had a dramatic turnaround in 2021 after a 4-3 start. That team closed by winning six consecutive games, including a 30-0 suffocation of South Carolina and a victory over Brock Purdy's Iowa State team in the Cheez-It Bowl. At that time, 10-3 felt like a jarring low point. Four years later the Tigers are 1-3 and Dabo Swinney is desperate for answers as he tries to keep this from turning into a wreck similar to Florida State's 2-10 disaster last year. Rencher remains close to the program, and he remains a devout Swinney loyalist. He communicated with his former coach this week and Rencher says he still has not just hope but confidence that the team can get it back on track and close with a flourish. Rencher also goes deep into his latest venture: Traveling for in-depth video interviews with high-profile figures including Fran Brown, Carson Beck, LaNorris Sellers, Gunner Stockton and Ryan Williams. The goal is getting these figures to open up in ways that they do not during regular press conferences, and Rencher seems to have firmly checked that box thus far.
