Det som tidigare var en havsvik har efter landhöjningen blivit en grund sjö omgärdad av betade strandängar. Under våren och hösten rastar tusentals gäss, änder och vadare vid sjön. Naturmorgons fältreporter Jonatan Martinsson sänder från Gärdefjärdens naturreservat i sällskap av Henrik Sporrong, reservatsförvaltare på länsstyrelsen i Västerbotten. Med kikaren i hand tar de tempen på fågellivet så här i början av höstens flyttning. Dessutom får vi höra mer om restaureringsarbetet som gjorts här. För några år sedan röjdes träd, buskar och sly bort för att öppna upp landskapet. Nu betas strandängarna av kor vilket både gynnar fågellivet och den biologiska mångfalden kring sjön.I sommar vandrar runt 125 personer den 130 mil långa sträckan mellan Grövelsjön i Dalarna och Treriksröset i norr. Den här turen, genom hela svenska fjällkedjan, kallas att genomföra Gröna bandet – eller ”Vita bandet” om man gör samma sak på skidor vintertid.
