Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
The Montreal Canadiens player reviews continue for the show and the hosts are taking a peek at two of the most criticized players in the organization, and one of the newest members of the club as well! Right off the bat, the hosts take a look at David Savard, who again was asked to play far above his expected level for most of the season and had his fair share of struggles once again. With two years left on his contract is there as way for Kent Hughes to make Savard a viable trade asset, or for Martin St-Louis to find the proper role for him again? Then, it's onto arguably the most divisive player on the Canadiens this year, Jonathan Drouin. Again it was a tough year for Drouin as he finished his contract with the team and made it clear he had loved his time with the club. However, despite a strong playmaking showing in the second half of the season, Drouin struggled mightily to light the lamp himself. Is there a world where Drouin is back with the Canadiens next year, or is he going to seek a continued career redemption elsewhere? Finally, the arrival of Kirby Dach on Draft Day last year was stunning to everyone, and came with some trepidation in the Habs fanbase. Dach went far and above to prove those fears were unfounded as he put together a strong, albeit injury-filled first year with the Canadiens. As a top line winger with Nick Suzuki he thrived, as a centre he showcased tremendous growth as a young player under Martin St-Louis, so just where is his best long term fit in Montreal? Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
Inside today's Locked on Canadiens It was a great weekend for the Montreal Canadiens increasing their odds for Conor Bedard and the first overall pick! Scott takes a look at the Habs game in Tampa Bay, the good, the bad, and the oversleeping. Even with the Canadiens losing they got strong showings from players like Denis Gurianov, Josh Anderson and Nick Suzuki, while also making the game competitive right down to the final horn. Scott breaks the game down, and takes a look at where Montreal now sits in the lottery odds! In Three Down, there is plenty to discuss around the Canadiens, but the biggest topic is Jonathan Drouin who was benched for the entire game on Saturday after being late to a team meeting. Was his punishment for a first-time offence too harsh, or was Martin St-Louis correct to stick to his principles? Scott takes a look at the whole situation and tries to find the answer. Finally in Three Up, it's all about the young guys again this week. Lane Hutson scored two goals to win the Hockey East title for BU, including the game-winner in overtime itself. Rhett Pitlick might have scored the goal of the year in the NCAA in the B1G title game as well. At the NHL level the hard shooting wingers in Denis Gurianov and Jesse Ylönen are also thriving, having scored multiple times over the last week, and that's great news for the Habs. We also talk about Arber Xhekaj's injury and what the Canadiens will need to do without him on the blueline. Finally, we talk about Josh Anderson and Michael Pezzetta's fights in the game. Inside today's Locked on Canadiens The Habs had a pair of games over Super Bowl weekend and came away with a pair of stunning wins over a pair of potentially playoff-bound teams in the Islanders and the Oilers. Scott and Laura recap the wins, including a heaping of praise for Mike Matheson and again Rafaël Harvey-Pinard against the Islanders, but also Mike Hoffman as well. Against the Oilers it was a huge day for unexpected names as Alex Belzile got his first NHL goal in a rout of Edmonton. Jake Allen got his first win in several weeks while Evgenii Dadonov and Jonathan Drouin supplied strong efforts on Super Bowl Sunday. Then it's time for Three Up, Three Down! With a strong weekend effort it was a task for Scott and Laura to find much to nitpick, but there is some bad news lingering after a wild weekend. First is the health and status of defender Arber Xhekaj, who left the Oilers game with a suspected shoulder injury. There's also again, the questions about NHL officiating remain and once more Scott is only asking for a consistency from game to game. Plus much more! In the up section it was a huge week for prospects, AHL players and the NHL alike in Montreal. Mike Matheson seems to be finding his stride in Montreal after an uneven start and played a huge role in the win over the Islanders. In the AHL, Cayden Primeau is putting together a huge run of primo wins as the Laval Rocket move up the standings after the All-Star break. And in the NCAA, Sean Farrell continues to put up points at an incredible pace. Despite it being normally three ups in a week, the hosts have a few more names as well they want to shout out.

Inside today's Locked on Canadiens: Montreal's lines appear to be set for their debut against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. Scott and Laura take a look at the lines and defensive pairs ahead of the game and what we can expect against their rivals on Opening Night. Speaking of the lineup, one of Mike Hoffman or Jonathan Drouin will be a healthy scratch potentially against Toronto. In a real no-win situation what is Martin St-Louis going to do? Special guest Andrew Berkshire of SDPN joins Laura to discuss whether the narratives surrounding Montreal Canadiens players David Savard, Jonathan Drouin, and Josh Anderson are valid. First, we discuss the David Savard signing, and the perception that he is a bad defenseman - what do his numbers say and what is the best way for the Canadiens to use him going forward? We then talk about a lightning rod for criticism in Jonathan Drouin and discuss what he needs to maximize his potential on this team and whether the Habs will trade him. Finally, we discuss why Josh Anderson can't quite hit the 20 goal mark just yet and what the Canadiens need to do with him. Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
The Montreal Canadiens were well represented at the NCAA Frozen Four tournament with seven prospects in all play. With just four teams left, that number is down to just two as Brett Stapley and Rhett Pitlick are set to play in the Frozen Four semi-finals next week. Scott however wants to make a note, that just because the stats aren't gaudy, that doesn't mean that the prospects didn't play well at the end of the day. Also, the hosts muse on whether or not Stapley can become another version of Jake Evans if he signs a contract with Montreal before his rights expire. Jordan Harris has finally arrived and joined the Canadiens down in Florida, and will practice off the ice before their game against the Panthers on Tuesday. Scott and Laura discuss how he fits into the lineup, and how the debut of Justin Barron might help set the expectations properly for his eventual debut in Montreal. The hosts also discuss the prospect of buying out players like Jonathan Drouin or Mike Hoffman this summer, and whether it's worth the trouble or if it's better to get any sort of trade return instead. The GM meetings are also underway in Florida, Scott and Laura discuss the new proposals for penalty review and the LTIR situation. If the rules change surrounding LTIR, can Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton find a way to undo the work of Marc Bergevin? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
