Send us a textTitle: Singing the Psalms – Rediscovering Worship Through Psalm 23The ancient poetry of Psalm 23 has comforted hearts for generations, offering assurance, peace, and powerful reminders of God's shepherding presence. In this episode, we take a deep and reflective look at this timeless Psalm—through translations both old and new—and uncover how its words still meet us in the most personal ways.Alongside Mark, we compare versions from the historic Coverdale translation to the more modern NIV, and even explore how these different renderings all echo the same eternal truth: “The Lord is my shepherd; I lack nothing.” These aren't just poetic lines—they're powerful declarations of divine provision and presence. But this episode is about more than translation—it's about transformation. We dive into the story of Paul and Silas in Acts 16, imprisoned yet singing hymns and psalms as chains clung to their ankles. Their choice to worship in the darkest moment brought about a literal earthquake of freedom. Why? Because Scripture-based worship has power. It speaks God's truth back to Him, reshaping the atmosphere and reminding our souls of who He is.We contrast this with some trends in modern worship that tend to focus more on human emotion than on God's glory. While heartfelt expression is important, there is something uniquely potent about worship rooted in God's own Word. It realigns our perspective, shifting the focus from our feelings to His faithfulness. Our discussion includes a fascinating look at churches that still sing Psalms metrically as their core expression of praise. This ancient yet enduring practice offers not only theological depth but a sacred intimacy—singing Scripture as it was originally intended. For anyone longing for spiritual renewal or craving more from their worship, this episode opens the door to something rich, reverent, and deeply rooted in biblical tradition.Whether you're familiar with Psalm 23 or hearing it anew, this conversation will rekindle your love for God's Word and offer practical insight into how the Psalms can reshape your prayer and worship life today.Let the shepherd of Psalm 23 lead you into deeper peace, purpose, and praise—one inspired verse at a time.Psalm 23 devotional podcast, power of singing Psalms, worship through Scripture, Acts 16 Paul and Silas worship, metrical Psalms in church, historical Bible translations, Coverdale vs NIV Psalms, God-centered worship practices, biblical songs in worship, how Psalms shape faith, praying through Psalm 23, spiritual strength through worshipSupport the showhttps://www.pastorbencooper.co.uk/https://www.rbchristianradio.net/ buymeacoffee.com/reverendbencooper
On the 63rd Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, the co-host of the Growin' Up Rock Podcast, Steven Michael, review the self-titled 1987 breakthrough album from Whitesnake. Whitesnake was a veteran British blues hard rock band with limited success in the United States. By 1987, David Coverdale wanted to change the band's style and image to a more Americanized version. He started with the music. The album is considered Whitesnake's "hair Metal" phase. The band was always a double guitar band, but this time, guitarist extraordinaire, John Sykes would contribute all the guitars and assist in the lyrics. Long time bassist, Neil Murray was on board as was top notch drummer, Aynsley Dunbar. Finalizing this lineup is Shout It Out Loudcast's favorite, Don Airey. After the music was completed, Coverdale proceeded to fire all the band members and hired an all star lineup to tour and more importantly appear in the MTV videos, including, Vivian Campbell, Adrian Vandenberg, Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldrich. But, more importantly he added his then fiancée, Tawny Kitaen to their videos and the band and the album exploded. Songs like "Here I Go Again" and "Is This Love" made it to Number 1 and 2 on radio respectively. The videos were all over MTV. The album was produced by Mike Stone and Keith Olsen. The album made it to Number 2 on the Billboard Charts and went 8X Platinum. The success of the band is credited to Coverdale's amazing vocals and frontman capabilities and John Sykes legendary melodic guitar work. However, the videos and Tawny Kitaen's impact cannot be overstated. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was the Patreon pick. Please make sure you join! Before glam exploded and metal ruled MTV, one album tried to bridge the shred-heavy brilliance of Europe with the big-hook ambitions of American rock radio—only to be lost in the chaos of lineup changes and flashing lights. Literally. In this episode, we rediscover Assault Attack by the Michael Schenker Group—a cult classic released in 1982 that had everything going for it: a legendary guitarist, a powerhouse vocalist, and production by Martin Birch. So why didn't it break through? We dig into the story behind the album's creation, from the fallout after One Night at Budokan to the last-minute firing of Graham Bonnet before the band could tour. Along the way, we explore what makes Assault Attack stand out musically—from Schenker's melodic riffing to the underrated grooves laid down by bassist Chris Glen and drummer Ted McKenna. This episode is for fans of underappreciated hard rock, for those who love when bands sound like bands (not just guitar showcases), and for anyone who's ever found a hidden gem in the cassette bin and wondered how it got there. Hey everyone, it's Natalie and I am thrilled to bring you today my conversation with my neighbor Catherine Coverdale who is a partner biologist with the Xerces Society and NRCS. We talk about programs that NRCS and Xerces do for pollinator plantings and weather stations. And we talk about her research for her masters, which was on blueberries and spotted wing drosophila, which was cool because when I talked with Bernice about honeyberries, she was discussing the spotted wing drosophila. So it was neat to get to the biology of SWD with Catherine. I hope you enjoy our conversation and maybe even take advantage of some of these programs that are out there to help farmers with some of these ecological practices to encourage native pollinators and the like. A @Christadelphians Video: Would you risk your life for a book? This may seem a ridiculous concept today, but this wasn't always the case. Not only was it once illegal to own a copy of the Bible, for centuries people were forbidden to even read it! Even more interesting is that some of those who risked their lives to ensure we can have it in our homes today have a connection to Rugby and the surrounding area. John Wycliffe (1329-1384) was an English theologian, philosopher, and religious reformer. He is best known for his translation of the Bible into English, which was the first complete translation of the Bible into English from the original languages. Wycliffe was a controversial figure in his own time, and he was eventually excommunicated by the Catholic Church. He died in 1384, and his bones were later dug up and burned by order of the Pope William Tyndale (1494-1536) was an English scholar and translator who is best known for his translation of the Bible into English. Tyndale's translation was based on the original Hebrew and Greek texts, and it was the first English translation to be made from these sources. Tyndale was a Protestant, and his translation was critical of the Catholic Church. He was eventually arrested by the authorities and burned at the stake in 1536. Miles Coverdale (1488-1569) was an English Protestant Bible translator. He was the first person to publish an English translation of the entire Bible, which was published in 1535. Coverdale's translation was based on the work of Tyndale and other scholars. He also translated the Bible into German and Latin. John Rogers (1500-1555) was an English Protestant martyr. He was the first person to be burned at the stake for heresy during the reign of Queen Mary I. Rogers was a minister in the Church of England, and he was arrested for his opposition to the Catholic Church. He was burned at the stake in 1555, along with other Protestant leaders. Thomas Cranmer (1489-1556) was an English religious reformer who served as Archbishop of Canterbury from 1533 to 1555. Cranmer was a key figure in the English Reformation, and he was responsible for the introduction of many Protestant reforms in the Church of England. He was also a translator of the Bible, and he was one of the authors of the Book of Common Prayer. Cranmer was burned at the stake in 1556 for heresy during the reign of Queen Mary I. These are just a few examples of the many people who suffered for making the Bible available in English. Their sacrifices helped to ensure that the Bible would be accessible to all people, regardless of their social status or religious beliefs. While the album Whitesnake may not be the debut album from the band Whitesnake, this self-titled seventh studio album might as well be a debut, as only two members were present from the previous album. Known in the UK as 1987, and in Japan as Serpens Albus, this album featured returning members John Sykes on guitars and backing vocals, and David Coverdale on lead vocals. Additionally Neil Murray was on bass, Aynsley Dunbar was on percussion, and Don Airey was on keyboards.David Coverdale was the lead singer for Deep Purple, and left the group in 1976. He did a couple of solo albums, the first of which was named “White Snake.” He formed the band Whitesnake as his backing band in 1978. They had a lot of success in the UK, Europe, and Japan with their early albums, but Coverdale wanted to break through in North America by the mid-80's. He started moving from a blues/hard rock sound to a more glam metal sound, starting with the album "Slide It In" in 1984, and fully embraced the heavy metal sound and hair band image with this album.Whitesnake would get significant airplay, with two singles going to number 1 (Here I Go Again) and number 2 (Is This Love?) on the Billboard US charts. Their videos would be staples of MTV, with prominent exposure of Tawny Kitaen, Coverdale's girlfriend and soon-to-be wife. The band would be broken up shortly after the album was complete, leaving David Coverdale as the sole member by the time they went on tour. This was despite the fact that John Sykes co-wrote all but two of the songs on the album. Get your hair metal on as Bruce puts his metal hair on, presenting this week's album. Bad BoysA deeper cut, this song is heavy on the rock and light on the significance of the lyrics. “Bad bad boys, getting wild in the street, wild in the city, I see you - you see me.” Much of the album has this heavy rock sound.Crying In the Rain '87This track that starts the album is a reworked song originally released by the group in 1982. The original is more bluesy and has a slower tempo than this version. The song was inspired by David Coverdale's divorce.Give Me All Your LoveThis was the fourth single from the album, and it reached number 58 on the US Top 100 charts. By the time the single was released in January 1988 a new guitar solo had been recorded by Vivian Campbell, replacing guitarist and co-writer John Sykes. Campbell would tour with the band but would leave before the next album.Still of the NightThe first single from the album may have only hit number 79 on the Billboard Hot 100, but it received significant airplay on rock stations and MTV. The comparisons to Led Zeppelin were frequent, not just for the guitar riffs, but also for the heavy drumming and similarity between the vocalizations of Coverdale and Robert Plant. The song is about obsession, maybe a vampire, maybe a stalker. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Love and Marriage by Frank Sinatra (from the television series “Married...With Children”)This anti-Cosby Show family dystopia followed the antics of shoe salesman Al Bundy and his family. STAFF PICKS:Tonight, Tonight, Tonight by GenesisLynch gets the staff picks going with a single from Genesis's album Invisible Touch. It went to number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 despite being written less as a pop song and more like the prog rock style that Genesis used earlier in the decade. The lyrics are about a conversation with a drug dealer, a fact that must have been missed when Michelob used the song to promote their beer.Love Removal Machine by The CultWayne's staff pick is the first single from The Cult's third album, Electric. It went to number 15 on the Mainstream Rock charts in the United States. Lead singer Ian Astbury compares this song to getting on your favorite motorcycle. The opening riff is often compared to “Start Me Up” by the Rolling Stones.Ahead by Wire Rob features the closest post punk band Wire would get to a pop single. It has a spacey, ethereal sound. Wire had extensive influence over many groups, including Sonic Youth, The Cure, and R.E.M. First We Take Manhattan by Jennifer WarnesBruce closes out the staff picks with a song written by Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen. Jennifer Warnes originally did this song for a Cohen tribute album, and it features guitarist extraordinaire Stevie Ray Vaughan. The song itself is dark and apocalyptic, with lyrics told from the perspective of a terrorist. COMEDY TRACK:Put Down the Duckie by Hoots the Owl and ErnieWe first learned that we have to put down the duckie if we want to play the saxophone from this skit, which aired on Sesame Street for the first time in April 1987.
On today's show, Chris explains how it is possible to stop paying council tax legally. GUEST OVERVIEW: Christopher Coverdale has found a way to stop paying council tax legally, on the grounds that to pay would be to illegally support terrorist activity.

Saturday, 29 July 2023 Now the men were about twelve in all. Acts 19:7 The previous verse noted what occurred after Paul baptized the disciples introduced in verse 19:1. He subsequently laid hands on them, and the Holy Spirit came upon them. When this occurred, they were speaking in tongues and prophesying. With that remembered, Luke provides detail about them as a group, saying, “Now the men were about twelve in all.” It is a curious verse because the word “about” leaves one to wonder. How simple it would be to just say, “there were eleven of them,” or “there were twelve of them.” However, this misses the point of what is being said. To get what is being presented, there are a few things to consider. First, this is something Luke does elsewhere, such as – “Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age.” Luke 3:23 & “For there were about five thousand men. Then He said to His disciples, ‘Make them sit down in groups of fifty.'” Luke 9:14 In the first example, Luke – under inspiration of the Holy Spirit – appears to have been purposefully making a connection to Genesis 41:46 which would then tie his ministry into the typology set forth in the life of Joseph. In the second example, one could argue that it would be much harder to be definitive about five thousand than it would be about twelve. But the point is not the number at all. Rather, it is that these are men. In other words, the counting of numbers in this manner is focused on the men alone. Therefore, including women and children, the number would probably have been between fifteen and twenty thousand people. In this case, it can be assumed that these disciples, being fully grown people who had been to Israel and heard John and received his baptism, also included women, whether wives, sisters, daughters, mothers, etc. The people may have gone as a group on a pilgrim feast and while in the land heard John's words and became his disciples. This is all speculation, but the matter that there were certainly women included is valid. Therefore, the number was probably between thirty-five and fifty in total. The “about twelve” makes complete sense when considered from this perspective. The man is the head of the household. Saying “about twelve men” would be equivalent to saying, “about twelve households.” One can see Luke talking to Paul and asking him about the event so that he could record it in his ongoing narrative, “Well how many were there?” Paul responds, “Oh, about a dozen men.” Thus, Luke wrote down what he heard, “Now the men were about twelve in all.” These men, along with any family that held to the baptism of John, would have made a rather sizeable addition to the body of Christ in Ephesus. Life application: Despite the brevity of the verse, there are quite a few variations in the translation. All say essentially the same thing, but some contain commas for clarity, one version makes this verse parenthetical, various translations change the order of the words, etc. Taking the older translations and considering what they say, it is good that newer translations have rearranged the words. Versions such as the Coverdale (1535), the Bishop's Bible (1568), the Geneva Bible (1587), and the KJV (1611) say, “And all the men were about twelve.” Though the translation is acceptable, it leaves an unnecessary ambiguity in the predicate. Saying that “all the men were about twelve” can actually mean that their age is about twelve. With a little thought, this could have been easily corrected. In other words, someone could say, “That is the age of the bar mitzvah! The disciples were just young men.” As crazy as that may sound, even more ludicrous ideas about Scripture are set forth on any given day. A humorous, if not incredibly sad, example of this is using Ezekiel 13:20 as rendered by the KJV to deny the doctrine of the rapture – “Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly.” Yes, really. If there is one thing man is inclined to do, it is to abuse Scripture to make it fit presuppositions and biases. Faulty or ambiguous translations naturally lead to this type of thing. Be sure to not jump to hasty conclusions without doing a thorough study of what is being presented. The word of God is far too precious to abuse just to supposedly prove one's presuppositions. Lord God, it is so wonderful to be a part of Your church. It is a church that has had previous souls added to it for two thousand years. People who have lived in darkness have been brought into Your marvelous light through the gospel of our Lord Jesus. Help us to continue to spread the word. May we be willing to share this good news with any and all who cross our paths. Amen.

In March of 1993, Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin, The Yardbirds) and David Coverdale (Whitesnake, Deep Purple) were brought together by A&R legend John Kalodner to create a hard rock album in the midst of grunge. They almost called the band Legends or North and South but settled on Coverdale Page to combine Coverdale's raspy vocals with Page's extraordinary guitar work. For Jimmy Page fans who had been waiting for his return after the tepidly received Outrider album, this release was highly anticipated and eventually went platinum in the US thanks to radio hits like Pride & Joy, Shake My Tree and Take Me For A Little While. However, critics were all over Page for collaborating with Coverdale who had been derided throughout his career as a Robert Plant clone. Even Plant himself threw shade at Jimmy and David as many of the tracks sounded very much like the old Zeppelin. But for two college students who were sure they'd never see a live Led Zeppelin show, they were psyched to hear this album and we actually bought tickets to see them live in Orlando. That show (and the whole North American Tour) never happened but hearing some of these songs on the radio, watching the videos on MTV and blasting it through our 5 CD changer in the dorm room made for happy days. And Robert Plant must have realized there was some magic there as not long after the release of Coverdale Page, he teamed up with Jimmy for the Unledded album, video and tour. It may not be the best work of either of these Rock N Roll Hall of Famers but it has a special place in history and in our hearts. On the 38th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the 1981 Whitesnake album, "Come An' Get It." This was Whitesnake's 4th studio album. The band had yet to break in the United States. However, the band at this time was continuing to grow in the UK. This album made it to Number 2 on the charts in the United Kingdom and went Gold there. The band was led by the one and only, the charasmatic David Coverdale on vocals. The legendary two headed guitar attack of Whitesnake at this time was Bernie Marsden & Micky Moody. Longtime Whitesnake member, Neil Murray was on bass and the legendary Deep Purple members, drummer Ian Paice and legendary keyboard player Jon Lord filled out this incredible lineup. The record was once again produced by Martin Birch. This is Birch's 3rd album reviewed on ARC. The album was filled with British blues numbers, rockers and Coverdale's naughty lyrics. The album cover is another Whitesnake classic. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 35 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Zeus' pick and the second Whiesnake album reviewed on the Album Review Crew.
