This week Cali High presents Enyaw Big Wolf, a talented and motivated, young hip hop artist from New Orleans with a big drive for success. While growing up in New Orleans, Big Wolf learned to play acoustic guitar and tuba and gradually grew into hiphop after his NFL dreams didn't come to fruition. He has recently moved to Los Angeles and has collaborated with The Adoni on a recent LP, 4 The City. Volume 27 of "The Sports Objective" features David, Kyle and Bubba talking to 3 former ECU assistant football coaches--all of which served on at least 2 staffs here in Greenville.   First, the guys talk to long-time recruiting coordinator and WR coach Donnie Kirkpatrick. Donnie K tutored the likes of Justin Hardy, Zay Jones, Dwayne Harris, Aundrae Allison, Lance Lewis and others during his 11 years on the staffs of Skip Holtz (2005-09) and Ruffin McNeill (2010-15).  He is now the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach at FCS power James Madison. When you think of offensive line play at ECU, many people likely think of Steve Shankweiler's units and for good reason as "Coach Shank" was a part of four Pirate staffs--Art Baker, Bill Lewis, Steve Logan and Skip Holtz--and part of some of the most successful moments in Pirate football such as the 1991 season, 1999 and 2000 seasons, and the back-to-back CUSA championship teams.  He truly loves ECU and embraces what it means to be a Pirate. Find out what Coach Shank is up to now! During the Skip Holtz era, the Pirates became known for playing great defense--particularly during the 2008 and 2009 seasons that ended in Conference USA titles.  A key cog in producing those defenses was secondary coach Rick Smith.  Smith, a coaching veteran of more than 40 years, returned as the Pirates' Defensive Coordinator from 2013 to 2015 and also served as the secondary coach on Scottie Montgomery's first staff in 2016.  You're not going to find anyone more "real" than straight shootin' Rick Smith!  Coach has a tremendous knowledge of the game, great stories and is always fun to talk to!

While everybody is annointing Pat Shumur as the savior for our offense, I saw on NFL Network that the Vikings offense may have been a top ten in rushing and passing yards, but they only averaged 18 points per game. That's 3 more points than Ben McAdoo's offense, that's not good, but our defense will save us again and we need a special teams home run hitter in the draft and cut Dwayne Harris's ass. Our defense will become like Seattle's and Denver's defense, afterall the Cards defense is a mirror image of Seattle, based around their safeties playing hybrid positions and LBs, and especially DT's and NT's. Which should be the focus of the draft as well as offensive linesmen.

NFL NETWORK NEWS WEEK 7 2015 SUNDAY GAMES RECAP - Dallas wide receiver Cole Beasley muffed a late fourth-quarter punt, ending the Cowboys' chances of a two-minute drill in Sunday's 27-20 loss at the New York Giants. Here's what you need to know: 1. Matt Cassel shook off three interceptions in a five-pass span to tie the game at 20 with a touchdown toss to a toe-tapping Devin Street in the middle of the fourth quarter. Those good vibrations lasted just a few seconds before special teams ace Dwayne Harris came back to haunt his former team with the first 100-yard return touchdown by a Giants player in more than 50 years. Minutes later, Beasley sealed the game with the muffed punt, leaving Dallas to lament Harris' presence on the opposite sideline. 2. Darren McFadden excelled in the workhorse role after Joseph Randle left early with a back strain. Paced by a hard-charging McFadden consistently moving the chains against a stout run defense, the Cowboys dominated time of possession (38:04 to 21:56), total yards (460 to 289) and first downs (27-13). McFadden generated 162 yards and a score on 31 touches. He would have added another 31-yard touchdown on a screen pass if not for a questionable Street penalty. McFadden played well enough to earn a larger share of the backfield pie going forward.
