A Description of episode 132 of Outside The Studio with Tessa: This month on Outside the Studio, we welcome David Benedicktus RN/BSN (retired). David has a 40-year career as a mental health professional working in a variety of mental health settings and focusing on system integration, and patient education projects. In retirement he became a founding member of Complementary Medicine Practitioners of PNW. He organized wellness health promotion talks for the City of Vancouver WA, the local library system and patient support groups. He also became an instructor at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington, for ten years lecturing on the neuroscience of trauma and the relationship between trauma and adaptive lifestyle choices which can lead to chronic disease and addictions. He teaches courses on the Neuroscience of Healing and Resiliency, Preventing Cognitive Decline as You Age, Cannabis and Your Health and Psychedelic Assisted Therapy. Leaning on David's life experience and subject matter expertise, today's conversation explores the theme of inequality and the divide between the haves and the have-nots. It begins with Tessa sharing her childhood realization of the difference between those who have safety and those who are in danger due to war, poverty, and mental health issues. Her father, David Benedicktus, discusses his involvement in the civil rights movement and his work with marginalized communities, particularly the homeless. They discuss the importance of empathy and taking action to address social issues. The conversation also touches on the impact of poverty, and the role of neuroscience in understanding human behavior. Key Takeaways:1.The divide between the haves and the have-nots is a significant issue that affects society. Empathy and understanding are crucial in addressing social issues and helping marginalized communities.2. Poverty and homelessness are complex problems that require structural support and resources. Neuroscience can help us understand the factors that contribute to human behavior and the need for compassion. Cultivating compassion and empathy is essential for addressing the challenges faced by marginalized communities.3. Trauma plays a significant role in shaping individuals and communities, and trauma-informed approaches are crucial for providing effective support. Providing resources such as mental health services and affordable housing can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. Summary from February 6, 2022 – How Do I Fit In This World – Part 3In this gathering we continued our deep and lengthy discussions about the negative impact of lower emotions, such as fear, anger, anxiety, and how our union and oneness with the Trinity helps lift us up into the higher emotions, such as gratitude, joy, and peace. As we journey upward into a greater awareness of our sonship, our union and oneness, and the freedom we have in and through the Trinity, we naturally change into who we really are. Then we can understand that we do fit in this place in our time and culture.
Summary from January 30, 2022 – How Do I Fit In This World – Part 2In this gathering we engaged in deep and lengthy discussions about the negative impact of lower emotions, such as fear, anger, anxiety, and how our union and oneness with the Trinity helps lift us up into the higher emotions, such as gratitude, joy, and peace. As sons of God brought into this world for such a time as this, we learn to fit in this world as we learn the dynamic and power given to us as sons. As sons, life is an upward journey into the higher emotions so that our joy may be complete and our outreach to others lifts them upward as well.

It is nearly impossible to avoid the pressure to be and to think like everyone else around us. It starts at the youngest age, we want to fit in! We don't want to be singled out or targeted, we want to be loved and accepted, even if it comes at the cost of changing who we are like a chameleon. I think it's fear at the core. Insecurities, anxiety, we fear being alone. And so all of us humans deal with this pressure and YET if you are a Christian, a genuine believer, and a follower of Jesus you are called to live in a culture without becoming a part of it. So practically, how in the world are we supposed to accomplish that? I think everyone has their own ideas, and their own excuses, for what being in the world but not of the world means, and no that is not the verse we are looking at today. We are going to read how we accomplish that, practically. If you would like to dive deeper into this, or other verses in the Bible, if you have a verse you would like to submit to have included in a future episode if have questions about the Bible that you would like answered in a bonus episode, or simply want to connect with me... text VERSED to 88474 or click hereAlso included in that link is a list of resources and references I use in this podcast and can help you grow deeper in your faith as well. As always – ratings and reviews are massive! They really help others discover the podcast and ultimately help us improve VERSED. Thanks in advance for that
We are excited at the beginning of a new season. In this episode we introduce what this season will hold as we look at current things in culture. We share about truth and what is truth. We have introduced the reality that injustice does exist, but we also make sure to point out the first and greatest injustice is against God. We are going to look at topics that in some cases cause much debate. We are going to look at these topics/issues from the reality that Scripture is True and Trustworthy.
Talking to my mother and other women from previous generations it sounds like they got pregnant and gave birth in a culture that's different from the one we face today. Based on these talks, I have often wondered how we got to the specific point we are at: where pregnancy is a very medical experience, C sections are so common, we seem to be just starting to talk more openly about miscarriages and the postpartum period, and women are trying to navigate the demands of breastfeeding and work. In today's show I interview two historians of science to get a sense of how we arrived at this particular moment in which we find ourselves. For more on my guests, see: https://warstoriesfromthewomb.com/
