Cam Heyward wants a raise, and he's clearly underpaid right now. So which side are we taking? How about with Boswell? Where do the Pirates and Skenes go next? Jason was the subject of a debate between Poni and Donny on if 93.7 the Fan could beat the Pony League World Series teams. A caller says Cam is destroying the chemistry. Joe recaps Interm Dom's crazy takes from yesterday. The Steelers defense continues to get crazy hype, with Juan Thornhill the latest to add to it. Joe compares the 1976 Steelers defense to this year's team. Archie Manning says his grandson Arch will stay at Texas after this year. Could he do this to avoid the Browns? Is there a scenario that he'd steer his way towards the Steelers? Have the Steelers all lost their minds about this defense? A caller settles the argument about the Steelers defense then vs now. Sean Gentille joins to talk about his trips with Joe, they discuss their dreams. Brian Batko joins to harass Gentille but the conversation shifts to raisins. Brian leaves but Sean stays to answer questions about Lemieux's group trying to buy the Pens b back, why did FSG want the team to begin with. Will Rodgers play in the preseason? The other Joe Starkey joins us! He talks about his legendary call of the band on the field, they reminisce about meeting each other, his call of the Miracle on Ice, his time with the Penguins, which sport is his favorite to call and which is the hardest, his time with the Golden State Warriors. What is most memorable call aside from the band on the field, when he called Daryl Sitler's 10-point game and Gale Sayers 6-TD game, how his broadcasting career took off. Tyler Kennedy and Pens legend Darius Kasparaitis stop in studio! Darius always loves hitting guys, his hit on Lindross and goal vs Hasek, how much hatred he elicited, playing with Mario and Jagr, his injuries, his unusual healing ritual, his arrest for jaywalking. Happy birthday Sidney Crosby. TK compares Kasparaitis's physique to Crosby. Would Darius be able to play in today's game? Darius's kids play hockey

BREAKING: Chris Boswell is also going through a silent hold-in at training camp, per ESPN. We took calls on that news and the Cam Heyward situation. Former Steeler Chris Hoke joined the show. Hokie isn't worried about Cam Heyward, saying he will be on the field in Week 1 no matter what. Chris thinks Heyward deserves the money as one of the best in the business. Chris kept saying that Heyward is a ‘team guy' and isn't worried about where this leaves the rest of the operation. Hokie called out teams for often not honoring contracts the way players are always told to. Chris really likes what he has seen from Derrick Harmon in camp so far. He also thinks Yahya Black will contribute a lot more than people expect early on. Hokie won't fault a guy for having confidence and said he isn't bothered by Juan Thornhill thinking the current Steelers defense can be one of the best of all-time. Chris is excited to watch Jack Sawyer more than any other player on Saturday night. Kaleb Johnson is the player he chose on the offensive side of the ball. More calls on the Cam Heyward hold-in news.

On today's episode, we discuss injury updates with Derrick Harmon missing practice and Calvin Austin III not quite yet ready to return. Jalen Ramsey also had a sleeve on his leg and didn't participate. We answer questions about who we are most excited to watch and the Steelers 4-4 look. We also discuss if the Steelers now have an easy button within their offense thanks to Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf and what we make of Juan Thornhill saying this can be the best defense ever. We got an update on the Will Howard injury from Mike Tomlin. It appears to be a broken finger that will have him ‘week-to-week.' Howard has a fracture on a finger of his throwing hand, but surgery won't be necessary. A few reports are suggesting it is his pinky finger, which is probably the one you want it to be if you had to pick. There was also a brawl at today's practice. Juan Thornhill stoked the fires of the hype around the team's defense. How good can they be? 93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff mentioned Derrick Harmon missing practice for a second day in a row. Jeff broke down the practice fight from earlier today. Chris asked Jeff about Harmon flying under the radar compared to 1st round picks of the past. Jeff brought up the combo of Broderick Jones and Isaac Seumalo on the left side and noted it has looked better for Jones since Seumalo came back to practice. Jeff said it was another solid day for Aaron Rodgers. Jeff couldn't 100% confirm, but based on looking at his hand, it appears to be the pinky that Will Howard broke yesterday. Jeff noted that Roman Wilson got a lot of love today from QB1. Judge Donny.
Steelers correspondent Mark Kaboly from The Pat McAfee Show joined the show. Mark doesn't believe that Mullsy made 9 straight threes in a pickup game. The guys bring up Mark's controversial comment on the Mcafee show about throwing toilet paper away. Mark said they were just wipes. Mark says it is very unlikely that the Steelers would trade for Terry Mclaurin. Apparently, the Steelers have the second best odds to trade for Micah Parsons. More w/ Mark – The consensus is that Rodgers had his best practice as a Steeler yesterday. Kaboly says that he was getting his best protection yet yesterday. He also says that the offense was terrible on Wednesday and was probably motivated to bounce back. Broderick Jones is currently hurt and has not been on the field. Mark finds it hard to believe that Broderick will get benched this season because the options behind him are not good. Fans were excited whenever Aaron Rodgers completed a pass over the middle of the field. Kaboly says that Payton Wilson has taken it to the next level in training camp so far. He also expects a positional battle between Juan Thornhill and Chuck Clark. More w/ Mark – Mark says that Will Howard looks better than what a 6th round QB should look like in his first camp. He says the Steelers think they got a steal, but not a ridiculous one. Mason Rudolph knows that he's not the starter, but he knows that he has to be ready if needed and ready to win. Mark says that Will Howard is very smart. The guys discuss where Ben Roethlisberger ranks all time.
Alan Saunders and Zachary Smith discuss all things Pittsburgh Steelers. On today's episode, we discuss the DBs bringing the juice to a feisty practice without pads. Juan Thornhill and Jalen Ramsey are known for their trash talk and Thursday was no exception. Thornhill and Jonnu Smith regularly went at it. Aaron Rodgers had a really strong day. Roman Wilson made the play of camp so far, and he will need to show much more of that going forward. How creative will Arthur Smith get, and do we need to adjust the roster math to account for it? On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo react to the team's first training camp practice at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. They explain why it's way too soon to panic about a rough start for Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf, who connected just one time in four attempts Thursday. Why Metcalf is optimistic about the way OC Arthur Smith plans to use him. And how other pieces including linemen Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu; backs Jaylen Warren and Kaleb Johnson; tight ends Pat Freiermuth and Jonnu Smith; and receivers Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson still have time to come togehter. Later, the guys analyze the defense and what we can learn from where names such as Jalen Ramsey, Juan Thornhill and T.J. Watt are lining up.

Post-Gazette insiders Brian Batko and Ray Fittipaldo recap the first practice of Steelers training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. They react to QB Aaron Rodgers having his first pass to DK Metcalf intercepted by new teammate Patrick Queen; Jalen Ramsey talking over slot corner duties with Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay Jr. playing outside; Juan Thornhill getting extensive looks in the absence of Minkah Fitzpatrick at safety; Jonnu Smith doing limited work in his first appearance in a Steelers uniform. They also give an update on Isaac Seumalo's injury and first-round pick Derrick Harmon's first camp practice.
The Steelers moved on from Larry Ogunjobi and Donte Jackson and we're ok with it. Why did they let Elandon Roberts go? We were surprised by this and thinks keeping Roberts, the 5th best run defender at linebacker by PFF last year. Minkah Fitzpatrick subbed out for Juan Thornhill is a drop off, but by how much.
Adam Crowley expresses with Pat Bostick why he's not fond of Juan Thornhill at the moment.
In this hour, Adam Crowley and Pat Bostick react to some comments Steelers' GM Omar Khan made in a press conference on Wednesday about his expectations of the team. Also, why is Crowley annoyed with Juan Thornhill already? July 24, 2025, 7:00 Hour
It's another rock bottom for the Pirates after being swept by the White Sox. Can you trust Cherington to handle the deadline? We're on Ben Cherington watch today. His contract could keep him around longer though. We react to Kevin Gorman's comments on the topics. Callers give their thought, including one who still will go to games regardless. More callers are eager to give their take on the Pirates, some are ready for Steelers season. The Steelers announced their throwback jerseys from 33. Another caller is worried about Rodgers staying healthy. Another caller is defending Bob Nutting. Others bring up the missed opportunities to add to the roster recently. Noah Hiles joins to discuss how the Pirates are feeling after the awful week, Ben Cherington's job security, can he successfully navigate the trade deadline, what type of players the Pirates could target at the deadline, could Cutch get dealt. Will Keller's value be at its highest now or in the offseason? It's almost time for Steelers training camp. Their spending on defense is in contrast to most of the NFL. A caller throws shade at Callas but he had an epic wiffleball call over the weekend. TJ Watt is 9 spots below Garrett on PFF's top 50, could the Packers be a trade partner for the Steelers at WR. Nick Farabaugh joins to discuss his take on the Steelers new throwback uniforms, what questions he wants answers at training camp, Watt's usage, which young player needs to have a big year, what will be the biggest overreactions in training camp, how bad is Juan Thornhill, which DBs could see extensive snaps, who could be next for an extension. The Sean Segment - Acuna's throw, WNBA players want better pay, Rich Hill is still going, McDavid plays beer league hockey, Erie's minor league baseball team is rebranded. ESPN ranked the best NFL rosters, and the Steelers are surprisingly low. We react to their supposed weaknesses, strengths, and X factors. What are the biggest storylines for Steelers camp - Broderick Jones, Kaleb Johnson, will there be additions at WR/safety, Jalen Ramsey's position. Johnny the Barber challenges Bechtold. Austin went to the Pirates game on Saturday and was mad about the people just there to sell their bobbleheads.

Ray thinks Ramsey will be "a chess piece" the Steelers move around to play different spots. We don't know that Juan Thornhill can start. The wide receiver room is still weak without depth and both safety and receiver are major concerns. Aaron Rodgers is the biggest move of the offseason. Ray is looking forward to watching Kaleb Johnson.
On a special Thursday edition of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko joins host Adam Bittner to analyze the team's receiving options following the acquisition of Jonnu Smith. Will OC Arthur Smith use the tight end more as a WR2 behind DK Metcalf? Given that Smith put up big receiving options last year with the Miami Dolphins? How will his presence impact the target share for guys like Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson and Robert Woods? And can we put talk of signing free agents like Amari Cooper, Keenan Allen, Gabe Davis and Allen Lazard to rest with Smith in the fold? In the second segment, the guys talk safety options. Could GM Omar Khan try to sign one before training camp, with names like Justin Simmons, Julian Blackmon and Marcus Williams still available via NFL free agency? How much will Jalen Ramsey himself fill the void left by Minkah Fitzpatrick? What are reasonable expectations for Juan Thornhill? And what happens to the safety group if DeShon Elliott gets hurt. Our duo tackles those topics, plus some quick-hitters in the third segment. Have the Steelers really been doing things much differently under Khan? Or have they been more aggressive for a while now without perceptions of them keeping u[? Will Aaron Rodgers get any benefit from working with his receivers this week in Malibu, Calif.? And what should fans want to hear from Ramsey at his introduction?
Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray said the legacy of Omar Khan so far is about bold, aggressive moves. Ray said his tenure will ultimately be defined by what happens in the next couple of years and if he can finally find a QB. Ray wanted to remind people that Kenny Pickett was not a Khan draft pick. Did the Steelers trade Minkah Fitzpatrick in his prime? Ray hadn't heard anything about Minkah's relationship with Mike Tomlin going south. Ray said the Steelers believe in DeShon Elliott. Juan Thornhill is coming off a bad year and Ray thinks that's why there is talk of Jalen Ramsey sliding into the safety spot at some point this season. Ray thinks the team should find someone to push Thornhill going into the season. Ray gave a strong endorsement for strawberry pretzel salad.
On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Brian Batko ponder the coaching job in front of Mike Tomlin amid the acquisition of big personalities including Jalen Ramsey, Aaron Rodgers, Jonnu Smith, DK Metcalf and Darius Slay Jr. this offseason. How will Ramsey fit into the secondary schematically following the departure of Minkah Fitzpatrick? Will he play outside corner? Will he leave those duties mostly to Slay and Joey Porter Jr. and seize the slot role? Or could we see him slide in at safety next to DeShon Elliot and Juan Thornhill? Our duo tackles those questions, plus some locker room dynamics. Is Mike Tomlin ready to manage the high volume of star-caliber players he has coming in? And how will the new faces impact the leadership structure of the team? Will Rodgers, Metcalf, Slay, etc. defer to long-time Steelers like T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward? Or will they be vocal contributors in their own right?
Steelers fans react to the Jalen Ramsey for Minkah Fitzpatrick trade. Joe Starkey joins his show to discuss how Minkah Fitzpatrick doesn't make big plays anymore. Juan Thornhill has had multiple calf injuries. Joe is confused by the trade.
On his weekly Chipped Ham and Football podcast, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko welcomes Iowa Hawkeyes football coach and Upper St. Clair native Kirk Ferentz to get some scouting reports on his former players who will wear a different black-and-gold uniform in 2025. What can Kaleb Johnson contribute to the backfield as a third-round pick in the NFL draft? Especially amid competition for carries with names like Jaylen Warren, Trey Sermon and Kenneth Gainwell? How can Yahya Black -- a fifth round pick -- complement names like Derrick Harmon, Cam Heyward and Keeanu Benton on the defensive line? Can undrafted Sebastian Castro make the team at safety next to names like Minkah Fitzpatrick, DeShon Elliott and Juan Thornhill? And what can we expect from 2024 draft pick Logan Lee, another Iowa product who lost much of his rookie season to injury? Our duo tackles those questions and more.
Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to DeShon Elliott signing a three-year contract extension with the Steelers. Was keeping Elliott long-term the right move for GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin? Can Elliott and Fitzpatrick be elite playmakers in a secondary that also includes Joey Porter Jr. and has added names like Darius Slay Jr., Juan Thornhill and Brandin Echols this offseason? And how much can an improved defensive line that includes Cam Heyward, Derrick Harmon, Keeanu Benton and Yahya Black help guys like Elliott with playmaking on the back end? Paul offers thoughts on those questions; the Pirate starting a series with the Detroit Tigers; and the NBA and Stanley Cup finals nearing stellar finishes.
On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo weigh in on the team's continuing pursuit of QB Aaron Rodgers in NFL free agency. Have GM Omar Khan, coach Mike Tomlin and top brass for team reached desperation for Rodgers to sign? Or is that need overstated? With Mason Rudolph already under contract and other free agent and trade options remaining, including Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, Kirk Cousins and Joe Milton III? And with the likelihood of adding Rodgers eventually already fairly high, given his lack of other options? Our duo tackles those questions, then ponders the upside of NFL draft QBs. Will names including Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, Will Howard and Jalen Milroe ever be stars in the NFL? Or are they poised to be career backups? And how should that distinction figure into the Steelers' decision making? Then Chris and Ray end the show by talking safeties. How good will the Steelers' group -- led by Minkah Fitzpatrick and DeShon Elliott -- be after the signing of free agent Juan Thornhill?

March 19, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 107 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers failed attempt at signing free agent FB Kyle Juszczyk, who ultimately signed back with the San Francisco 49ers. We discuss the reports that the Steelers offered Juszczyk more money and why he likely turned that down to return to the 49ers. The Steelers reportedly signed free agent S Juan Thornhill, formerly of the Cleveland Browns, on Monday so Alex and I talk about what he brings to Pittsburgh. We also talk about the Steelers re-signing DL Isaiahh Loudermilk on Tuesday and what that means to that position group ahead of this year's draft. Will the Steelers re-sign a few more of their own unrestricted free agents in the coming week or weeks? We discuss a few of those players that might re-sign on the cheap. We are obligated to pass along the latest rumblings on free agent QB Aaron Rodgers during this show and we get that topic covered. We also discuss what Steelers DT Cameron Heyward said about Rodgers and Pittsburgh's ongoing quarterback search on his latest podcast episode. The Steelers reportedly had a big dinner with Alabama QB Jalen Milroe prior to his Wednesday pro day, so Alex and I discuss the significance of that. We discuss where Milroe is likely to go in the 2025 NFL Draft and if the Steelers will ultimately draft him or another quarterback at some point this year. We also discuss another Alabama that was reportedly at that pro day dinner on Tuesday night. The Steelers are staying busy on the annual pro day trail, so Alex and I discuss DB coach Gerald Alexander going to South Carolina to put S Nick Emmanwori through his drills. Is it possible that the Steelers will draft a safety in the first round this year? What about in the first four rounds? Alex and I attempt to answer those questions. The Oregon pro day took place on Tuesday and the Steelers only had one scout there, according to reports. We discuss that pro day some and a few more that other members of the Steelers' scouting department were spotted at since our last episode. Alex posted his second mock draft of 2025 on Wednesday, so we go over each one of his selections. We also discuss the state of the Steelers' tackle depth chart later in this show as well. This 100-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap as well. We end this show by answering several emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo react to news that the team dined with Alabama QB Jalen Milroe at the Crimson Tide's pro day this week. Are GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin genuinely interested in adding Milroe to their QB room? Why might his skill set be on their radar? How does he compare to other possible NFL draft QB options including Jaxson Dart and Will Howard? In segment two, the guys give their thoughts on news that the Minnesota Vikings are out of the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes. Does this mean he's more likely to join the Steelers over other possibilities including Russell Wilson? How much longer will this QB drama need to play out? Then in the third segment, Ray and Chris analyze the signing of safety Juan Thornhill. What does he bring to the table alongside names including Minkah Fitzpatrick and DeShon Elliott?
Ian Rapoport tweeted that Juan Thornhill is signing with the Steelers and called them one of the NFL's best defenses. Cam Heyward said he's not going to go on a darkness retreat to recruit Aaron Rodgers. Cam said you either want to be a Steeler or not, but Joe thinks this feeds into the Steelers problem of thinking they are elite still.

A new league year is underway and the Browns are making moves. Juan Thornhill and Dalvin Tomlinson are designated for June release, the Browns have made a couple free agent signings, and the quarterback room now includes Kenny Pickett -- and could include Russell Wilson. The Browns are confident that if they get quarterback figured out, they can start winning again, so when a quarterback like Matthew Stafford might be available, it's incumbent on the Browns to inquire. Mary Kay Cabot and Dan Labbe took a break from scrambling to get ready to leave for the NFL Scouting Combine on Monday on the Orange and Brown Talk podcast to talk about the Browns and Stafford and if the Browns really should get aggressive in going after Stafford and if they could actually land him. They also talk about the release of safety Juan Thornhill and what's next at the position and who needs to step up. Lastly, they discuss Shedeur Sanders not throwing at the Combine and whether they expect Cam Ward to do the same and why it does — or doesn't — matter. Want to become a Football Insider subscriber?
