In this special edition of Tunnel Vision hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka Triple Double) are back in studio and joined remotely by new USC linebacker Desman Stephens. Thanks to House of Victory, the 6-foot-3, 232 pound linebacker out of Clarkston, Michigan, had a lengthy interview with our hosts, talking about his journey from the Midwest to Los Angeles, the progress he made during his freshman campaign, playing along side Eric Gentry, learning under Matt Entz last year and Rob Ryan this year and how he thinks this defense can improve in 2025. Last season Stephens played in all 13 games for the Trojans, picking up 13 tackles (8 solo, 5 assisted), including 1 tackle for a loss of 1 yard, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception returned for 42 yards and a quarterback hurry. On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about what they learned from last week's USC assistant football coach media brunch, where six offensive and six defensive assistants sat down with the media for an hour, answering questions about how spring football went and what Trojan fans can expect from their respective position groups in the future. The USC football staff is a great mix of young, energetic coaches like cornerbacks coach Trovon Reed and inside receivers coach Chad Savage and older, veteran coaches like linebackers coach Rob Ryan. The guys talk about some of the highlights from what they heard from the staff and why they are optimistic that this group of coaches can turn things around in 2025. Coach Hyde also discusses the current state of USC football recruiting, with the Trojans building up a massive 2026 class that currently ranks No. 1 in the country. The focus has been on local prospects and it has paid off, with 27 commitments and counting including the impressive recent pledge from five-star offensive tackle Keenyi Pepe. They finish the show talking about the recent decision by head coach Lincoln Riley to let Director of Football Sports Performance Bennie Wylie go, taking USC's strength and conditioning program in another direction. We joked when Philly picked a bunch of former Georgia defenders that GM Howie Roseman was trying to create North Athens, and he got results similar to the 2021 and 2022 Georgia national championship teams that he took those players from. Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts is a Super Bowl champ. It's a well deserved achievement for a quarterback who had a wild college career and has been doubted pretty much every step of the way. Later, Andy and Ari break down more 2025 preseason win totals. That 9.5 for Texas looks pretty juicy. The 9.5 for Tennessee probably requires a deeper dive. Also, 8.5 for Indiana is a nod of respect to Curt Cignetti. Next, Andy and Ari break down Rob Ryan's spectacular debut press conference as USC's linebackers coach. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about USC's big 2025 Signing Day press conference where they heard from head coach Lincoln Riley and all of the new coaching and personnel staff members. The Trojans have added some impressive talents and personalities that should help this program get to the next level. Both Ryan and Connor were very optimistic about the new hires after the press conference, with assistant head coach for defense and linebackers coach Rob Ryan standing out for his outgoing personality and exceptional story telling. They were also impressed with Chad Savage as tight ends and inside receivers coach and Trovon Reed as the new cornerbacks coach, both young coaches are exceptional on the recruiting trail and should help the Trojans tremendously. It does appear that USC will be losing one staff member with assistant linebackers coach Bryson Allen-Williams heading to Georgia according to a 247Sports report. On the personnel side, Chad Bowden coming over from Notre Dame is looking like a homerun hire. He is filling out his staff, with the latest edition being Wisconsin general manager Max Stienecker who will join the previously announced Zaire Turner hired as the new assistant AD of recruiting Operations and Dre Brown as the executive director of scouting and personnel. The guys also talk about the two new additions to the roster, with USC announcing the signing of Jadyn Ramos, a defensive end from Conroe (Texas) and AJ Tuitele, a linebacker from Mojave (Nev.). On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together giving their thoughts on the major moves the USC athletic department has been making with the coaching and personnel staffs. Over the past two seasons the Trojans have struggled to a 13-11 record so with these staff moves they hope is that head coach Lincoln Riley has all the help he needs to build a championship roster that can be coached up to make a run at the College Football Playoffs. The guys start off talking about the personnel side, with USC hiring away Notre Dame general manager Chad Bowden to come to Troy in the same role. Coach Hyde wants to know what his job description will entail and how much say he has over the roster working with Riley. Bowden also has some help coming with Zaire Turner hired as the new assistant AD of recruiting Operations and Dre Brown as the executive director of scouting and personnel. On the coaching staff side Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on USC keeping and extending defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn, bringing in NFL veteran Rob Ryan as the assistant head coach for defense and linebackers coach, Chad Savage as tight ends and inside receivers coach and Trovon Reed as the new cornerbacks coach. The guys talk about how the new staff members will help the Trojans on the recruiting trail, especially in Southern California where USC has fallen short the past couple of classes. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about how the major power move made by athletic director Jen Cohen and head coach Lincoln Riley, hiring away Chad Bowden from Notre Dame to take over as the Trojans new general manager. The Trojans have been looking to hire a GM for a while and with the role being so unique and new, there were certainly challenges to getting the right person to help build and maintain an elite college football roster. Bowden has shown he knows what it takes to win, helping to assemble a Fighting Irish squad that made a run to the national championship and beating an impressive list of programs to get there. The guys talk about what an impressive hire this is for USC and what sort of impact they think it will make on the Trojans as they head into the 2025 season trying to bounce back after a disappointing first campaign in the Big Ten. They also talk about new linebackers coach Rob Ryan out on the recruiting trail for USC, Pete Carroll getting the Raiders head coaching job, Penn State hiring DC Jim Knowles away from Ohio State and how some of the players that transferred out of USC fared last season. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about how the USC Trojan defensive staff has come together, with defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn sticking around and getting an extension after Penn State made a strong run at him and the hiring of new linebackers coach Rob Ryan, the longtime NFL defensive coordinator. With so many defensive improvements made in 2024, it was extremely important for head coach Lincoln Riley to keep that side of the ball going in the right direction. Losing Lynn, especially to a conference rival, would have been a major setback to the Trojans defensive revival. The guys also give their thoughts on the Ryan hire and how well they think he can replace Matt Entz, who moved on to become the head coach of Fresno State. USC did lose defensive assistant Taylor Mays to Washington and they discuss the significance of that loss. The portal activity has slowed down significantly with the latest news being defensive back DeCarlos Nicholson getting an extra year of eligibility, entering the portal and then withdrawing his name from the poral. They also discuss how the USC incoming freshmen performed at the Polynesian Bowl including co-offensive MVP Husan Longstreet and the potential issue on the NIL front where Title IX could require male and female athletes to be compensated similarly, which could take away a significant amount of revenue share resources earmarked for football players.
