Cam Newton signs a 1 year contract with the New England Patriots after being released from the Carolina Panthers a few months earlier. This signing happened just months after Tom Brady decided to leave the New England Patriots to go play for the Tampa Buccaneers. We discuss the contract and how we feel Cam will do in the upcoming season. As Covid-19 cases continue to rise in Florida, as well as the Black Lives Matter movement, NBA players have voiced their concerns about going to Orlando to participate in the upcoming games being played in "the bubble". Some have even outright stated they will not return this season. What does this mean for the restart occurring in late July? We tell a story from our college days where Huddy almost incites a fight with most of the Alabama football team and how star linebacker Reggie Ragland (who just won a Superbowl with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020) had to save us from getting jumped. Who wouldn’t want $177? You could pay a bill or have a big night on the town when we’re back to having big nights on the town. What you can’t do with $177 is sign an NFL free agent. But according to one cap space calculation, that’s how much money the Chiefs have left to sign players. Of course that amount with change with the restructuring of deals but you get the picture. The limited space hasn’t stopped the Chiefs from making moves, and beat writer Herbie Teope chats with Blair Kerkhoff about roster changes over the past few days. They’ve resigned wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, while linebacker Reggie Ragland has signed with the Detroit Lions. What’s next for the Chiefs? Maybe looking under the mattress for more cap space. Chiefs look to ground the Jets after tough Bills loss --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/MTMV/support
It's time to take on the arguments against starting Patrick Mahomes. Alex Smith and the offense are completely floundering, unable to beat simple zone defenses. Yet people continue to insist things like starting Mahomes is "too risky" or that there's no way he's ready to run Andy Reid's offense. In this episode, after a brief discussion of the Chiefs/Bills game, Reggie Ragland's big day, and adjusting our expectations for this season, I take on the 9 most common objections people make to starting Patrick Mahomes and, one by one, explain why they don't really make that much sense given how the season has played out. I then discuss the ONLY legitimate reason to keep Mahomes on the bench, and close out with some mailbag questions.
I sit in a state of utter shock that the Chiefs were so thoroughly inept against a bad team, which eventually transforms into ranting about some of the very basic failures we saw against the Giants. From failing to beat fairly basic zone coverage, Alex Smith underperforming again, to the offensive line playing badly, the entire game was a disaster that forces us to examine what this year's Chiefs really are. Then... it's time to have a real conversation about having a conversation. After several weeks of people begging me to talk about Patrick Mahomes, I dive in-depth about Alex's struggles, what the goals should be for this season, and whether it's time to at least start having a conversation about having a conversation when it comes to Mahomes. I close out with trying to find some hope in the improved defensive play, particularly from Reggie Ragland, and take some mailbag questions on my way out there door. Included in those questions are some thoughts about whether players can show frustration with fans during tough times. It's not a great week to be a Chiefs fan, but we love them anyways.

In Episode 14 of the Chief in the North, I power through a voice that is on its way to being completely lost and a cold that's incoming (products of an incredible night at Arrowhead) to talk about the Chiefs' epic (that's right, epic) win against the Redskins on Monday Night Football. I open up discussing the game itself, how the Redskins were better than I thought they would be, the atmosphere at Arrowhead, and how bleak things looked starting out. I then look at what it shows about the team to come back in that situation, and what being 4-0 really means. Then it's time to start talking about individual players. I discuss Alex Smith's clutch play down the stretch, Kareem Hunt's freakishness, and Albert Wilson's unexpected emergence as an important role player after he was finally given a role that fits his skillset. I then talk about missing the entire interior offensive line and what that might mean moving forward. Then the conversation shifts to the defense. By popular request, I re-watched every Reggie Ragland snap and spend quite a bit of time discussing the traits he demonstrated next to DJ. I then discuss Marcus Peters and the pass rush, both of which were two of the only negative things to come out of Monday night. Finally, we're on to the Texans. I talk about the budding rivalry between the two teams and fanbases and what I think of Houston overall. I discuss the pieces they have on offense and defense, how they've performed so far this year, and what I think the game against them will look like. It's a good week to be a Chiefs fan.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott explains the team's decision to trade former second-round pick Reggie Ragland to the Chiefs.
In a jam-packed Episode 9 of the Chief in the North podcast, I start off with an examination of what traits Reggie Ragland has that may make him a good fit for what Bob Sutton wants in a SILB, and how he may fit into the picture in Kansas City. After that, I take an in-depth look at the Chiefs' disappointing performance against the Seahawks, having reviewed the film several times over to get a sense of whether the sky is really falling or not. Of particular focus: -Offensive line play, particularly run blocking -The role drops and penalties played in an uncharacteristically sloppy performance -The wildly vanilla nature of Andy Reid and Bob Sutton's gameplan -The defensive line and run defense as a whole After that, it's a detailed discussion on the impact of Spencer Ware's injury and what traits Kareem Hunt possesses to give us hope. I also discuss C.J. Spiller and Charcandrick West and what their roles may be moving forwad. I also take a look at Marcus Kemp, one of those bubble players who has caught my eye, and KPL/Eligwe in their roles as potential inside linebackers of the future. Finally, I close with some discussion of clear starter (based on what Andy Reid has said and done) Alex Smith and rookie Patrick Mahomes, and what their tape against Seattle looked like upon review. I also discuss the reasons I'm "OK but not thrilled" with Alex starting this year, and the differences between the two of them in how they perform when things go wrong around them. It's a lot to take in, but a roaring good time if you ask me.

Bills rookie second round pick, Reggie Ragland, suffered a season ending ACL tear this week at training camp. Will bringing in veteran LBs Brandon Spikes and David Hawthorne be enough to to fill the void?

The Buffalo Bills are two days into Training Camp, and most things are looking bright already. Shady McCoy is the lightest he has been in 4 seasons, and James Wilder Jr has grabbed number two reps at the running back spot. Second round draft pick Reggie Ragland has NOT looked out of place in coverage, which is essential for Rex's defensive scheme. Also, an early preview of wide receivers. Mays and Mallory break down the big Eagles-Browns trade with resident Eagles fan Chris Ryan and resident Browns apologist Matt Borcas (22:00). Then they discuss the "draftnik nonsense" of "red flags" (39:00) and the "bluechip battle of the week" (47:00) featuring Reggie Ragland and Darron Lee, and wrap it up with a mailbag to examine Josh Norman's next move.
We're one short week from the 2016 NFL draft, and things are really ramping up. Scuttlebutt. Speculation. And trades involving both the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks on April 28. With that in mind, Fantasy Sharks Staff Writers Gary Davenport, Todd Latzke and Walton Spurlin welcome in a special guest. Fellow Sharks staffer (and NFL Draft expert) Dan Collins joins the gang to discuss both the latest draft-day scuttlebutt and its fantasy impact. Because in this second installment of our NFL Draft Preview, the gang is focusing on the fake football impact of the very real draft. Whether it's dynasty leagues or redraft formats, the offensive positions (quarterback, running back, wide receiver and tight end) or the IDPs, this edition of the Fantasy Football Feeding Frenzy is all about forecasting the fantasy impact of the action in Chicago. Is Ezekiel Elliott a no-brainer No. 1 pick in rookie drafts. In a muddy crop at wideout, who's the top dog? Will Jared Goff or Carson Wentz make a fantasy dent under center in 2016? Is there a tight end worth knowing about this year? And what about defensive linemen like Joey Bosa and DeForest Buckner? Linebackers like Reggie Ragland and Myles Jack? Who are the rookie IDPs fantasy owners need to know about this summer? The guys will also look at the latest news around the league, from the trade that sent the second pick from Cleveland to Philly (and Gary into an apoplectic rage) to the stunning departure of Josh Norman from the Carolina Panthers. For the answers to these questions and more, tune in Thursday, April 21 at 7:00 Eastern for Part 2 of a two-part draft previewpalooza of prescient prognostication! Jumbo-sized even!!!
