Why do Catholics and Jews consistently create some of the greatest films in cinematic history, while Protestants and Latter-day Saints often struggle? In this episode of Ward Radio, we break it down with special guest Jeff from Angel Studios: the power of ritual, “3D worship,” symbolism, historical trauma, and deep storytelling traditions that fuel transcendent art. From Catholic liturgy and architecture creating rich subtext, to Jewish holidays packed with meaning and humor forged in suffering, we contrast that with why LDS filmmakers frequently leave the faith in Hollywood — and what we can do about it.Temple experiences as theater training, Gordon B. Hinckley's insights, the irreplaceable role of human pain in great stories (and why AI can't replicate it), plus practical advice on feedback systems, the “refiner's fire,” and building better Latter-day Saint cinema.Perfect for anyone into faith-based filmmaking, Mormon culture, or Christian art!Timestamps:0:00 – Intro: Which Religion Makes the Best Movies?0:33 – Why Catholics Excel: Ritual, Symbolism & 3D Worship1:48 – Jews, Meaningful Holidays, Trauma & Storytelling3:50 – Why LDS Filmmakers Struggle in Hollywood6:28 – Temple Liturgy, Theater & Artistic Depth (Hinckley Quote)10:11 – Angel Studios Mission & Keeping Faith in Hollywood12:08 – Trauma, Comedy & Transcendent Art17:06 – Pain, Redemption, Pioneers & Why AI Falls Short21:47 – Raising Kids for Meaningful Lives27:29 – Practical Advice for Latter-day Saint Artists34:21 – Feedback Systems, Refiner's Fire & Closing Thoughts#Catholics #BestMovies #LatterDaySaints #FaithAndFilm #Mormon #ChristianMovies #LDS #AngelStudios #WardRadio #Filmmaking #Temple #Ritual #StorytellingJoin this channel to get access to perks:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnmsAFGrFuGe0obW6tkEY6w/joinAmazon Wish List: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1AQLMTSMBM4DC?ref_=wl_shareVisit us for this and more at: WardRadio.comTo subscribe to "The Women of Ward Radio" Youtube Channel, please visit: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbu-wpRztV-8TYXClhUZhhwTo Subscribe to Cardon Ellis' Adventure Channel, please visit: http://www.youtube.com/@CardonEllisAdventuresThe following authors and/or sponsors are generously offering discounts on their gospel-related publication to Ward Radio listeners.⚡For free trial of Scripture Notes please visit the following link!: https://scripturenotes.com/?via=wardradio⚡For a discount on Tiny 3D Temples, Save 15% with code WARDRADIO at checkout or visit tiny3dtemples.com/wardradio⚡Family: A Rhyming Proclamation for Kids book visit the following linkhttps://plainandpreciouspublishing.com/products/family-a-rhyming-proclamation-for-kids . Jack welcomes Gavin back to the podcast to pick through the rubble of the absolute disaster against Nottingham Forest. After such an incredible show of support from the fans on the High Road before kick-off, the 3-0 collapse feels like a crushing blow. We discuss how it remains vital to keep the faith, even when the on-pitch performances make it increasingly difficult to do so week in, week out. The conversation then turns to a familiar frustration: the refereeing. We vent about the officiating Tottenham continually receive, asking why the tight decisions always seem to go against our favour, especially when we are fighting tooth and nail for our top-flight survival. Facing the grim reality of our situation, Jack and Gavin also look ahead to the unthinkable. We consider what life might actually look like for Spurs in the Championship, and debate the ultimate question: if the worst does happen and we drop down a division, would the owners actually see fit to sell the club? It is a tough, heavy discussion that isn't overly optimistic, but right now, as a severely struggling fanbase, we simply need a space to lick our wounds. Joshua BoydCore Truth: The key to a blessed life is obedience. The key to obedience is the tongue. This message ties together the Law, faith, and daily Christian living—showing how words shape obedience and outcomes.God's Word Was Meant to Be SpokenScripture (Old & New Testament) remains fully relevant—God does not change.Jesus fulfilled the Law; He did not eliminate it.The Ten Commandments are called the “Ten Words”—spoken directly by God.God gave His Word in written form so it could be remembered, repeated, and obeyed.Obedience Brings Blessing“Obey” appears 321 times in the Old Testament; 75 times in Deuteronomy.Moses repeatedly emphasized obedience because it leads to life and blessing.Obedience is fueled by keeping God's Word in our mouth and heart.Example: Nehemiah—God's Word was spoken into his heart, producing faith and action. The Word Is Near YouDeuteronomy 30:11–15God's command is not distant or unreachable. It is on your lips and in your heart—so that you can obey it.Obedience is a daily choice between:Life or deathBlessing or disasterWe love the promises—but the path to them is obedience.Righteousness vs. BlessingWe are made righteous by faith in Jesus, not by obedience. But blessing still flows through obedience.Christianity is different: Jesus did the work we couldn't do.Yet our daily choices still matter—and words guide those choices.Faith Is SpokenRomans 10Faith “says” something—and also knows what not to say.Salvation itself comes through:Believing in the heartDeclaring with the mouth that Jesus is LordFaith stays alive through spoken Word. The Shield of FaithThe enemy attacks first with thoughts.Thoughts become words; words shape belief and direction. The shield of faith stops fear-filled thoughts before they reach the mouth.Speaking God's Word aloud protects the heart and redirects life.Speaking the Word Builds FaithFaith is visible—and audible. You can hear whether someone is in faith by what they say.Feeding fear (news, projections, worst-case scenarios) weakens faith.Speaking Scripture strengthens faith and brings peace.Speaking in the SpiritNew Testament gifts include speaking, prophecy, and tongues.Tongues:Build up the believerSpeak mysteries directly to GodBypass the mind and align with God's willRomans 8:26 — The Spirit helps us pray when we don't know how.Paul prayed in tongues often—and it fueled revelation and strength.Words Determine DirectionWords either advance God's will or the enemy's.Faith-filled speech produces life; fear-filled speech produces bondage.Change doesn't start by “trying harder”—it starts by changing words.God Listens to Faith TalkMalachi 3:16–18Those who feared the Lord spoke often to one another.God listened and recorded their words in a book of remembrance. The difference between righteous and wicked is revealed by speech.Final TakeawayThe key to a blessed life is obedience. The key to obedience is the tongue. When we honor God's Word by keeping it in our hearts and on our lips, obedience follows—and blessing flows.

How to Find a Christian Financial Advisor You Can Trust

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 23, 2025 24:57

When you board a plane, you trust the pilot to get you safely to your destination. Shouldn't you be just as careful about who advises you on your financial future? Financial guidance isn't just about numbers—it's about trust, worldview, and values. The right advisor can help you make decisions that align with your faith and priorities.Every advisor brings a worldview to the table. Too often, cultural definitions of success revolve around accumulation alone. But biblical stewardship points higher—toward faithfulness, contentment, and generosity. That's why this choice is not only financial—it's spiritual. You're entrusting someone with influence over how you manage God's money, and that requires discernment.Clarify What You NeedBefore beginning your search, determine what type of help you're looking for. Do you need comprehensive planning—covering retirement, insurance, taxes, estate planning, and generosity—or just investment management? Do you want a one-time plan or an ongoing relationship? The clearer your goals, the easier it will be to evaluate fit.One of the most important questions to ask is whether your advisor is a fiduciary, legally obligated to put your interests first. Compensation models vary:Commission-based advisors earn by selling products, which may create conflicts of interest.Fee-based advisors charge fees but may also receive commissions.Fee-only advisors are paid solely by clients, helping ensure objectivity. No matter the model, insist on full transparency about fees and expenses.Credentials and CharacterCredentials demonstrate an advisor's training and licensing, but character matters just as much. Evaluate potential advisors in three areas:Values – Do they share your biblical worldview?Competence – Do they have the training and experience to serve families like yours?Process – Can they explain how they build a financial plan and how they are compensated?A Practical Process for Finding the Right AdvisorBuild a shortlist – Ask trusted friends, family, or church leaders for recommendations. Explore advisors who share biblical values, like Certified Kingdom Advisors® at FindaCKA.com.Do a background check – Verify licenses, review disclosure documents, and check for disciplinary history.Interview at least three advisors – Treat this like a job interview. You're hiring for a critical role.Request a written scope and fee schedule – Get clarity in writing.Pray and take your time – Don't let anyone pressure you into quick decisions. When meeting with potential advisors, ask:“How are you compensated? Please outline every fee and expense.”“What role does faith play in your financial advice, and how do you define success?”“What's your process for creating a financial plan or investment strategy?”Proverbs 11:14 reminds us: “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.”Red Flags and Green LightsBe alert for warning signs such as:Promises of unrealistic performanceVague answers about feesPressure to move assets quicklyLook instead for encouraging signs:Transparent communicationA listening-first approachAdvice that integrates faith and family prioritiesThe right advisor depends on your season of life. Young families may need guidance on budgeting, insurance, and college savings, while retirees often seek tax-efficient withdrawals, income strategies, and estate planning. Ask potential advisors about their typical clients to see if their expertise aligns with your needs.Keeping Faith at the CenterA trusted advisor can help you avoid mistakes, manage taxes, stay disciplined during market swings, and design a generosity plan that reflects your calling. Most importantly, the right advisor will keep your focus on faithfulness, not just finances—helping you honor God with every decision. If you're ready to seek biblically wise financial advice, consider working with a Certified Kingdom Advisor®. Life is busy, but this episode isn't about burnout - it's about how Jesus meets us in the middle of the chaos. They share what it means to say no to good things, to fiercely guard Saturdays, and to prioritise what lasts: a relationship with Jesus. Tim reflects on the challenge of self-reliance, and how faith often feels distant - until God shows up in the unexpected moments, like a car ride or a chat at church. From Bible times that fall apart to sticker-covered Bibles that suddenly work, it's a reminder that we're not failing parents just because we feel like we are - because God hasn't let go of us, or our children.Support the show

Think about the last time you boarded a plane. Did you see the pilot? Did you know if he was having a good day or if he was in the best health? Most likely, you didn't. Yet, you trusted that the pilot would safely guide you to your destination. Similarly, when you hop on a bus, you don't see the driver, but you still trust that the journey will go well. Today, I want to talk about the ultimate pilot of our lives—God Almighty—and how essential it is to place our trust in Him.Trusting God is like trusting the unseen pilot of a plane or the bus driver we never meet. Despite our uncertainties and the unknowns, we place our faith in their hands. This is a perfect metaphor for our relationship with God. We may not see Him, but we know He is there, guiding us, protecting us, and ensuring that we arrive safely at our destination. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."When we trust in God, we are essentially saying, "Lord, I may not understand what's happening in my life right now, but I trust that You do." Just as we trust the pilot and the bus driver, we must learn to trust the One who created the pilot, the bus driver, and the entire universe. Our faith should be anchored in the knowledge that God's plans for us are always for our good, as Jeremiah 29:11 assures us, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."Biblical Examples:Consider the story of Abraham. God asked him to leave his home and go to a place that He would show him. Abraham didn't know where he was going, but he trusted God. His faith was rewarded when he became the father of many nations. Similarly, the Israelites trusted God to lead them through the wilderness to the Promised Land. Despite the challenges and the uncertainties, they placed their faith in Him, and God led them to a land flowing with milk and honey.

Verse 79 is TTC's main place where Lao Tzu frames “score-keeping” with “faith-keeping”. So in this verse we look at the various ways we injure ourselves (and our futures) with strict accounting of alleged slights we see someone giving us. The resentments build until one of two things happen: A complete breakdown of communication, or, the moment when someone stops practicing keeping-score and instead practices keeping-faith. The double BAFTA Cymru winning Welsh actor Eve Myles was born to a Scottish father and a Welsh mother and grew up in Powys.Choosing three films from the video shop on a Saturday and watching them on repeat all week is how young Eve fell in love with the possibilities and escapism of acting. Her compelling role in Keeping Faith saw her not only having to learn Welsh, act alongside her real-life husband, but most importantly it inspired a trend for bright yellow waterproof coats. Her latest drama, The Crow Girl, is executive produced by Slash, but there's no Guns N' Roses in her Inheritance Tracks then.Inherited: Pearl's a Singer by Elkie Brooks Passed on: Faith's Song by Amy WadgeProducers: Ben Mitchell and Catherine Powell
