Interview by Kris PetersUS thrash, crossover metal outfit Municipal Waste have been entertaining audiences since the turn of the century, combining everything you love about metal with a flippant and humorous disposition that permeates through their music.Since their 2003 debut album Waste 'Em All first introduced the world to Municipal Waste, the band have released a further six studio albums and four EPs the most recent of which was the awesome Electrified Brain in 2022.Starved of seeing Municipal Waste live since 2013, Australian audiences are preparing for the inevitable onslaught when the band starts their Wasted Australia Tour in Melbourne on July 5, with frontman Tony Foresta joining HEAVY to fill us in on all the glorious details."It's kind of hard sometimes to get tours booked there," he smiled when asked why he has neglected Australian fans for more than ten years. "And apparently y'all are getting a ton of tours now, more than you used to. So maybe people just overlooked us or whatever. But we always want to come back. I mean, I say this in every interview, but Australia is our favourite place to tour. So just ask us to come every year and we will. You've just got to invite us (laughs)."We ask what has changed with Municipal Waste since their last visit."I don't even know if Nick (Poulos, lead guitar) was in the band the last time we toured Australia," he measured. "I don't think so. Man, y'all are in for some shit, dude. We've gotten so much better. I mean, we got an extra guitar player. We sound better. We fucking… we've got our chops up, and we've got a whole lot of new songs that rule to play, too. So it's going to be a lot different than the last time we were there. But hopefully as violent, because that shit was fun."In the full interview, Tony further discussed the upcoming Municipal Waste tour of Australia, sharing details about the tour dates and the band's excitement to return after a long absence. He explained the band's decision to tour without a new album release and expressed their enthusiasm for playing in Australia, highlighting the band's improved sound and new songs. Tony also talked about what fans can expect from a Municipal Waste live show, emphasizing the chaotic and rowdy nature of the experience.Tony finished by providing insights into the formation of Municipal Waste in the early 2000s, driven by a desire to bring thrash metal back into popularity, and discussed the band's commitment to their musical style and their refusal to conform to industry trends for commercial gain.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
Spinning Out (another music podcast) We talk to artists about their favorite albums and go on wild tangents. This is a podcast where we talk to guests about their favorite albums. This week on the pod we talked with Dave Witte of the band Municipal Waste, and also previously of Discordance Axis, Burnt By the Sun, Black Army Jacket and so many more. We talked about AC/DC's 1981 album, "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)." We also talk about defending the band against the haters, being Brian Johnson fans, and trying to learn how to keep it simple. Municipal Waste released their newest album, "Electrified Brain," last year on Nuclear Blast Records and you can pick that up directly from the band or wherever you stream music. https://municipal-waste.bandcamp.com/album/electrified-brain-2 Follow us on social media -- twitter and instagram (@Spinningoutpod) Subscribe to our Patreon here: www.patreon.com/spinningoutpod Follow us on social media -- twitter and instagram (@Spinningoutpod)
Dave Witte of Municipal Waste & I have a conversation about how he coped with his time off, falling back in love with IPAs, the soundtrack of his youth, his 1st shows, "Electrified Brain", mental health, fighting the hops, new beer collabs & his hangover cure. Throughout this chat, Dave drank Private Press Brewing's "Ripple In Time" the 14.8% Belgian Quadrupel while I enjoyed L'Apothicaire's "Witbier" the 5% Belgian White Wheat Ale. WARNING: As a service to the greater tri-county, podcast-enjoying multiverse, we'd like to offer and advise listener discretion prior to the consumption of ANY of our existentially exhausting, provocatively off-putting, and irrationally irresponsible YET ALSO exceptionally hilarious, highly rated, and absurdly entertaining content. (You've been warned…) MUNICIPAL WASTE, the crossover thrash wizards hailing from Richmond, Virginia, resemble a giant burrito of thrash tastiness, chock full of a cornucopia of influences stretching across a veritable plethora of classic thrash sub-genres from the late 80's and early 90's. And then the whole thing is completely slathered in “microdot gravy” and fortified with modernized (yet classic looking), thrash album cover art and epically hilarious song titles. Just listening to MUNICIPAL WASTE creates more joy than “Christmas morning” for a kid or “refill day” for an adult. Get ready to receive the “glare of approval” after you locate your “porkbuttribs” and prepare to douse yourself with a liberal sized spritz of “meat perfume” in anticipation of “pollenating your partner” for the remainder of your dinner date, after which time we hope you recover so you can JOIN US as we time-travel back to a local mall on a Friday night in 1989 to hand out a few flyers for upcoming shows, grab something to eat at the bustling food court, and scope out the record stores for any albums that might measure up to the incredibly precise, devastatingly powerful thrash potency of modern-day thrash masters, MUNICIPAL WASTE. Welcome! I wrote a lot that just vanished, and now I am pissed! So... The WASTE is back – and better than ever. All the thrash any metal fan can ever ask for; the mighty Virginia-based band Municipal Waste have dropped their highly-anticipated album “Electrified Brain,”and the reception has been nothing short of, well, electrifying. We are joined by guitarist Ryan Waste as he takes us through not only the band's journey, but his own. Reflecting on over 2 decades of touring, thrash, and partying is something worth noting. Alongside 7 albums throughout their timespan, Municipal Waste have also developed a growing relationship with revered heavy metal label, Nuclear Blast Records, and the recent resigning serves as a great example of trust. “Electrified Brain” is worth the 5 year wait, and a good portion of it deals with Ryan's influences within the film industry. Having a passion for the horror genre has certainly made its mark in this record, most notably in the music videos – Ryan dives right into the production processes that took place for the title track on this record, including a few more tricks up his sleeve of talent within being a film director. On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks Ryan Waste from Municipal Waste, who have just released their new album Electrified Brain on July 1st. Ryan tells us about the new album, saying it has been 22 years since they started and they had to keep up the same energy and not being able to play live music due to the pandemic helped them push even harder. Ryan agrees with Pipeman that pandemic has given them an opportunity to write some of the best music they've written because they were forced to get off the hamster wheel.Upcoming, Ryan tells us about them playing Blue Ridge, as well as going out to Europe with Anthrax as a support artist, as well as heading out in August with At The Gates. Ryan gives us a full rundown of what the rest of the year will look like too. This week is another special edition of THE LOADED RADIO PODCAST as we have both Tony Foresta, singer from "party thrash metallers' MUNICIPAL WASTE as well as Zachary Ilya Ezrin, frontman from avant-garde metal band IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT joining us. MUNICIPAL WASTE have the new album "Electrified Brain" which just dropped last week and delivers everything you have come to expect from the Richmond, Virginia thrashers complete with tongue in cheek humor and crushing riffs. IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT have the new album "Spirit Of Ecstasy" arriving this month as well via Century Media Records. The follow up to 2020's "Alphaville" continues the onslaught of pure, extreme metal and a barrage of guests including Alex Skolnick from TESTAMENT and smooth-jazz sax player Kenny G.
On this shorty we give our track by track first gut reaction to Municipal Waste's newest album, "Electrified Brain". Can Brett handle this entire album? Will it be interesting enough to get through? Will they ever do ten cent beer night again cause man i think that'd just be funny to watch. All that and more will be answered today! IG: @ebpcast @brettthanrahan @jeanlucguitard @PuppyKushComa
One of the best things about thrash metal bands is you generally know what you are going to get with a new album.Although there might be slight variances and nuances here and there, the basic structure that defines thrash metal and becomes entwined in a bands DNA is always inherent in some capacity.Thankfully, US thrashers Municipal Waste follow the tried and true formula for thrash on their upcoming album Electrified Brain which will be released by Nuclear Blast Records on July 1.It is another slab of greatness from the band, and one which has been described by frontman Tony Foresta as an album full of “fun, fast, and ripping hardcorepunkmetal.”HEAVY caught up with Foresta on the eve of the albums release to chat about what to expect."It's exciting,” he enthused. “It feels like... God... it's been three years since we started working on this thing until now and it's finally coming out. It's been a long road and we worked really fucken hard on it, I can say that this is the hardest that we've ever worked on a record. Seeing it actually come out and being able to hold the vinyl in my hands it's like seeing your child born, but probably not as cool as that (laughs). We're real fucken excited. I'm literally biting my nails waiting for Friday to come so I can get this thing out there."As for goals going into the process, Foresta is of the belief that no rules are good rules.“We kind of just wanted to see where it would take us,” he explained, “because we never really do concept records or this is gonna be our slow album or this is gonna be our fast album... we just start writing shit and seeing what sticks and what we like. It did take a while to really get the ball rolling, especially with having everything shut down and I ended up moving to Florida so I moved away from my band mates. It was a lot of stuff that we're not used to happening in the process of writing a record. It worked out better because it actually gave us time to dig in and focus on the songs, rework shit and think more about the structures and just listen to the shit over and over again. I rate this record more than any other record I've listened to in my life - except for Reign In Blood of course (laughs)."In the full interview Tony talks more about Electrified Brain, the songs on it, recurring lyrical themes, new dynamics within the music while keeping true to thrash, the early days of the band, their influence on thrash metal in the modern era, not following trends, Belushi Speed Ball's song Ripping Off Municipal Waste and more.
Municipal Waste is launching a new album on July 1, 2022; it's called Electrified Brain. Tony Foresta was available for a chat, he shared his thoughts on the album and his association with the world of wrestling, and addressed the perception that the band aren't serious about crafting gnarly thrash metal.
Doc welcomes Municipal Waste drummer, Dave Witte, to the show and they talk about Dave's early days in New Jersey with experimental death/grind band, Human Remains, what drove him to push his playing to the extreme with Discordance Axis, how his drive to just want to play and tour as much as he could lead him to play in multiple bands, what he learned touring the world with avant-garde Japanese band, Melt Banana, how Burnt By The Sun came together and eventually disbanded, joining Municipal waste and getting to taste success, how the fun-factor set Municipal Waste apart and starting a vegan restaurant in Richmond, VA. This episode features the songs "Eventually" by Belclaire and "Electrified Brain" by Municipal Waste.
