Aveley woman Donna Marie Grocott, 44, was alone in the pet food aisle when she was approached and allegedly stabbed in the back of her hip by Bullsbrook woman Cassandra Hickling. While the 40cm fish filleting knife didn't hit major organs, pictures of Ms Grocott's bandages on her back and fingers reveal the size of the punctures. Sunrise correspondent Matt Tinney has the details.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A bushfire raging in Perth's east is threatening lives and property, according to an urgent warning issued by the state's emergency authorities. The Wooroloo blaze an hour to the city's east continues to burn, with an “act immediately to survive” directive issued for more than a dozen areas, while some residents have been told “it's too late to leave and leaving now would be deadly”.There are reports up to 20 houses have already been lost.An emergency warning is in place for The Vines, Bailup, Ellenbrook, Gidgegannup, Milledon, Walyunga National Park, Upper Swan, Aveley, Wundowie, Red Hill, Belhus, Baskerville, Herne Hill, Bullsbrook, Wooroloo and Brigadoon.Residents in surrounding areas have been told to be on alert by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, with continued unpredictable weather creating a risk to suburbs.“You need to shelter in your home in a room away from the fire front and make sure you can easily escape,” the warning states.“You must shelter before the fire arrives, as the extreme heat will kill you well before the flames reach you.“If your home catches on fire and the conditions inside become unbearable, you need to get out and go to an area that has already been burnt.”More than 250 firefighters fought the blaze overnight as hot and windy conditions lashed the area, with DFES spokesman Superintendent Peter Sutton saying the crews have braved “erratic fire behaviour”, according to The West.“We have a number of properties lost. Our rapid damage assessment team is working on that. But there is no known loss of life,” he said.“The perimeter of the fire is around 60km, so it is very large and the fire has spotted 3.2km from the head of the fire and crossed the river.”Inspector Sutton said houses in Avon Bridge Estate and Shady Hills were under “imminent threat”, revealing crews had little success overnight, but there were no reports of injuries. The Wooroloo fire is part of the Perth metropolitan area region plunged into a five-day lockdown due to the hotel quarantine coronavirus scare revealed on Sunday. The DFES has told anyone who is forced to break the strict lockdown to avoid a fire threat to wear a face mask and adhere to social distancing measures.

This episode discusses domestic violence and the murder of children.Anthony Harvey was obsessed with serial killers, and in order to cope with life, he created a fantasy world in which he was a serial killer. He decided to make this fantasy a reality, and begin “hunting”, but in order to do so, he needed to eliminate those closest to him.In September 2018, Anthony Harvey murdered his wife, his three young daughters, and his mother-in-law, in a violent attack a judge deemed to be “so far beyond the bounds of acceptable human conduct that they instil horror and revulsion into even the most hardened of people”. Anthony Harvey became the first person in Western Australian history to be sentenced to life in prison with the order never to be released.EPISODE NOTES:Mara Lee Harvey, 41, Charlotte Kate Harvey, 3, Beatrix Mae Harvey and Alice Ester Harvey, both aged 2, and Beverley Ann Quinn, 73, were taken from this world by the person they should have been able to trust most.Anthony Harvey planned the murder for over a month, outlining specifically his “options” to exterminate his family and what he needed to do to get away with the crime – get cash, get some gear, go out bush. Once he killed his family, the plan was for “the real hunting” to begin, but thankfully, Harvey never got that far. After spending five days living in the house where the bodies of his family members lay, Harvey drove 1500 kilometres away, and confessed his crimes to his father before turning himself into police. The brutality of the crimes appalled the police, the prosecution and the defence, as well as Justice Hall, who determined that the severity of the murders was so extreme that Harvey should never be released from prison. These murders were the third domestic mass killing in Western Australia in 2018, following the Margaret River murder-suicide in May and the Ellenbrook murders in July. These murders are representative of the domestic violence crisis currently occurring in Australia, where an average of one woman a week is murdered by her partner. If you or anyone you know is currently experience domestic violence, please contact the police, or any of these confidential hotlines for counselling and support:1800 RESPECT: 1800 737 732Lifeline: 13 11 14Mensline Australia: 1300 789 978Kids Helpline: 1800 551 800Our main source this week was Justice Hall’s sentencing decision, which can be found here https://ecourts.justice.wa.gov.au/eCourtsPortal/Decisions/DownloadDecision/a1edc59b-743f-4cca-bcc5-c76b31379646?unredactedVersion=False&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 note, some of this episode was taken verbatim from the decision, because we aren’t lawyers and legal stuff is hard to interpret. To read more about the Harvey family murders, you can go here https://www.theaustralian.com.au/nation/nation/several-bodies-discovered-at-perth-home/news-story/0086fe2e78ace29cf44571b9f6214d2eTo read about the Margaret River murders, go here https://www.sbs.com.au/news/father-of-murdered-margaret-river-family-reveals-suicide-noteTo read about the Ellenbrook murders, go here https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-07-18/ellenbrook-triple-murder-accused-mentally-ill-says-father/10005208If you like what we do please consider supporting us on PATREONSubscribe to the podcast on ITUNES, STITCHER, SPOTIFY or your podcatcher of choice.Find us on FACEBOOK, TWITTER, INSTAGRAM or EMAIL us on murderinthelandofoz@gmail.comwww.thatsnotcanonproductions.com

Sir Curtly Ambrose is having a crack at the new season of Dancing with the Stars, and he’s in it to win it! Plus he reminisced about the days of playing against the top notch Aussie team, and also about being knighted (he’s not the biggest fan of being called Sir as it turns out).Perth Glory are kicking butt at the moment, and star recruit Chris Ikonomidis dropped by to talk about how much he’s enjoying his time at the Glory, and also to explain why he was running fairly late this morning....Another star cricketer came into the studio today...Mitchell Johnson may have had the girls swooning but he talked a great deal about his toilet habits. They’re still swooning anyway. He’s promoting the Weet-Bix TRYathlon for kids on March 24.And Anthony from Ellenbrook won the trip to the Maldives yesterday - he explained that his rather subdued reaction was due to having had a vasectomy the day before! A good time to take calls on post-vasectomy stories, Jason’s will make your eyes water and Louie’s - well, sometimes they don’t always work as well as they should.Result of all this vasectomy talk?
