Two new Woolworths stores have opened in the South Island, but you can't get the weekly shop done there. The educational facilities in Dunedin and Invercargill are giving young people with disabilities training for jobs in a supermarket environment, creating 'launchpads' for future employment. Front-Line Training chief operations officer Nadia Steedman says this will allow people to work in a space that suits their individual needs. "With that, we have a direct connection with the local Woolworths stores, where work experience will eventually be available - as well as putting them in the limelight, with the potential for them to become employed." The Kenyan national football team, the Harambee Stars, arrived in South Africa this week for their friendly matches against Lesotho... and immediately found themselves in a financial own goal. Reports say the team rejected the first hotel that had been booked for them because they felt it wasn't up to national team standards. So they moved to a different hotel... only to discover there was one small problem: nobody had paid the bill. Players and officials were reportedly left sitting in the hotel lobby for more than three hours while federation officials tried to sort out payment. Where did YOU run out of money? Maybe you confidently walked into Woolies with a basket and left with a single avocado. Maybe you got to the toll gate and realised your bank account was running on thoughts and prayers. In the latest edition of the NdB Sunday Show, Chris Steyn talks to Lauren Evanthia, the Founder of the Organic Humanity Movement (OHM), about the “walls closing in” on President Cyril Ramaphosa with a former Public Protector submitting a formal whistleblower's report to FBI and the US Department of Justice on Phala Phala; the anti-Ramaphosa voices on this Impeachment Committee due to meet for the first time tomorrow; former President Jacob Zuma's attack on the President for turning to the courts to try and stop the inquiry; as well as "President-in-waiting" Paul Mashatile's Cape Flats “oversight visit”. They also talk about KZN Provincial Police Commissioner Lt.-Genl. Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's response to being named Newsmaker of the Year, and the bomb explosions in Woolworths in two of South Africa's capitals, Bloemfontein and Tshwane. As for the new tax proposed for Vehicle Licence renewals to support the beleaguered Road Accident Fund (RAF), Evanthia says: “So every time there's government failure, the answer is like, let's try tax the people more…There has to be a point where we as South Africans say, no, do your job as a government. We want to see our return on investment, or we're not going to pay up.”

Ricki and Tim got fully sucked into the Enhanced Games, aka the Olympics but everyone’s absolutely JUICED. Tim was obsessed with giant deadlifters throwing around half a tonne like it was a Woolies bag, while Ricki tried to process the fact that one of the biggest names in the comp came dead last… in a four-person race. They also discovered most of the “world record failures” were losing by literal fractions of a second, which somehow made the whole thing even more dramatic. By the end, Tim was ready to launch a Normal People Olympics where he and Ricki avoid swimming purely because washing hair afterwards is too annoying.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The reason your meal prep keeps failing isn't because you're not disciplined. It's because you're copying systems built for people who like cooking. If that's not you, those systems will never work. If your dinner creeps out to 8 or 9pm most nights and your fat loss has stalled, this one is worth 30 minutes of your week. In this episode of The Nutrition Couch, Leanne and Susie unpack why late dinners quietly derail body composition for so many women — and why the fix isn't as simple as just eating earlier. Do late dinners actually stall fat loss? Why pushing your last meal out often triggers a calorie catch-up spiral: over-hunger, reliance on bars and snacks, and a heavier meal than your body actually needed. Susie and Leanne explain how circadian rhythm and insulin sensitivity quietly stack the deck against you, why some women (think CrossFit at 5am, or insulin-resistant clients) genuinely need different approaches, and the simple shift of moving more calories into lunch and the afternoon snack that changes everything. The 12-hour overnight window for gut health Why Susie aims for a minimum 10 hours — ideally 12 — between your last mouthful at night and breakfast the next day, and what happens to next-day hunger regulation when that window gets squeezed. Is the protein pudding trend actually necessary? Pools, Arlo, Rockabees, Muscle Nation. The hosts weigh in on whether you really need another 20g of protein after a dinner that already hit 30–40g, and when a protein pudding genuinely earns its place. Tinned tuna ranked: Coles vs Aldi vs Woolworths vs Sirena vs John West Susie runs the actual tuna percentages inside the tin across every major supermarket brand. The Aldi range that beats tuna triple the price. The Coles home brand that comes in at 80% tuna for $1.10. Why Woolworths home brand falls short. And why tinned red salmon at around $10 might quietly be one of the best-value high-protein lunches going. Product review: Sunny Queen Bacon & Cheese Protein Bites 27g of protein on the front of the pack, a long additive-heavy ingredient list inside, and a 200g "single serve" that raises serious questions. The hosts' verdict on whether this one earns a spot in your trolley. Listener question: How should shift workers eat? Long-time listener Nicole asks for a practical framework around day, afternoon, and night shifts. Susie and Leanne walk through meal timing, the low-fuel snack options that keep you alert without blowing out calories, and why structure beats "eating lighter" every time. For the range of protein, creatine, collagen, and magnesium Leanne and Susie refer to at the close of this episode, head to Designed by Dietitians. Stephen Grootes speaks to Khaya Sithole Independent Analyst and CA(SA), about the challenges facing the Public Investment Corporation’s unlisted portfolio, a collection of assets valued at over R120 billion that has recently come under intense scrutiny. The portfolio has been dragged down by poor legacy investments and significant impairment charges, prompting the PIC to bring in turnaround specialists to stabilise underperforming holdings. In other interviews, Roy Bagattini, CEO of Woolworths Holdings, talks about the retailer’s latest interim results, which show positive sales growth but continued pressure on profit margins. While turnover rose and the group declared a double-digit dividend increase, gross margins were squeezed by promotional activity, price investment and higher operating costs particularly linked to capacity expansion and conditions in Australia. This week we’re tackling the big one for party season: alcohol. Leanne and Susie break down how much is too much, why “just one glass” is rarely one glass, and the simple rules that prevent Christmas weight gain. Inside the episode: The truth about alcohol, hormones and cancer risk Why you might be drinking more than you think Party-season rules to protect sleep, energy and metabolism The canapé traps that lead to hidden weight gain Susie’s new favourite Woolies protein find Listener question: Is swimming actually good exercise for fat loss? Are supermarket BBQ chickens a smart shortcut or something to avoid? Today, we separate facts from fear — plastic bags, heat lamps, skin vs breast, sodium, additives — and how to enjoy a “chook night” without the blow-outs. We also rant (productively!) about convenient nutrition “rules”, seed-oil panic, and the “natural = healthy” trap. Plus, a Woolies pantry hack we genuinely rate: Lebanese-style grains with chickpeas that make a high-fibre lunch in minutes. We finish with your listener question: how to find whole-grain, protein-forward options on weekends when everything seems to be white bread. In this episode BBQ chicken decoded: plastic packaging under heat, microplastics concerns, skin vs breast, sodium, stuffing, and MSG sensitivities — what actually matters for health and what doesn’t. Rant time (useful, we promise): convenient “rules” that only apply when it suits, seed-oil scaremongering, and why “natural” lollies with “fake fibre” aren’t a free pass. Product spotlight: Woolworths Lebanese-style grains & chickpeas — why the ingredient list stacks up, clever add-ins, and how to split the pouch into two balanced lunches. Listener Q: weekend grab-and-go wins when whole-grain options seem non-existent (Subway builds, Vietnamese rice-paper rolls, Mexican bowls, and pre-packing strategies that beat mindless snacking). We had Aussie royalty in today the voice of Bandit from Bluey! Dave McCormack joined us for a chat about the Bluey movie, why no one ever believes it’s actually him at Woolies, and his messy attempt at making a duck cake.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We're back live Monday October 6 but in the meantime, remember this?Popcorn just levelled up, betch. We got into the new M&M popcorn drop at Woolies — and for $5.50, it’s basically begging to jump into your trolley. But that’s not all… Mars Bar and Snickers have joined the popcorn party too. Forget recess, this is a full-blown sugar stampede.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Former Mecca execs Georgie Gilbert and Camille Peressini had access to just about every luxury body care brand on the market. They're also both mums- realistically, are you buying and using a high end body wash in the shower with your husband and kids? No, you're doing a supermarket run and picking up something there. Both Georgie and Camille knew, however, that the supermarket body care offering was uninspiring. The products didn't look or feel luxe, the scents were generic, and it felt like the accessible options weren't formulated or designed with beauty consumers in mind. Enter, SOMA. If the gap itself wasn't compelling enough, consider that Georgie and Camille were given a 10 week launch timeline from Woolworths. That's 10 weeks to strategise, formulate, package and market an entirely new brand, all while keeping that accessible price point in mind, and have it on the shelves of over 1000 Woolies stores nationwide in less than three months. In this conversation, Georgie and Camille share how they're going about converting habitual supermarket shoppers who've been buying the same body wash for decades, the intricacies of creating body care packaging that's fully and easily recyclable, and what happens when your product accidentally goes viral on TikTok before you've officially launched.
