In this episode, Ignatius Press founder Fr. Joseph Fessio talks to his friend and fellow Jesuit, Fr. Robert McTeigue, about Fr. McTeigue's new book, “Christendom Lost and Found: Meditations for a Post Post-Christian Era” (http://bit.ly/3Rl25FY ). The book is a kind of a war journal, written between 2020 and 2021 during “the COVID Interruption” and the violent outbursts in cities across America. Witnessing cultural collapse in every direction, Fr. McTeigue offers meditations on what it will take to build Christ-centered cultures in our time—what must be retrieved and what must be renewed. Fr. McTeigue can be heard Monday through Friday at 5pm Eastern on his radio show “The Catholic Current”; listen on your favorite podcast platform or online: https://thestationofthecross.com/programs/the-catholic-current/ Find Fr. McTeigue's first book, “Real Philosophy for Real People,” at Ignatius.com: http://bit.ly/3HI1WIz

My guest this week is Orthodox Priest and writer, Father John Downie. Fr. John wrote some very compelling pieces for the Brownstone Institute, where he discusses many of the problems with the Covid regime from an Orhtodox perspective. One hospital tried to deny Fr. John from taking Holy Communion to a dying patient -- he wouldn't allow them to block him. That is because he answers to something bigger than the fear of unknowing hospital staffers. Many people caved during 2020 and closed not only businesses but even some churches. Many were pro-jab despite knowing nothing about it. Who stood up to this evil? We discuss this and more. Find Fr. Daniel's street mission tips followed by a Q&A: https://youtu.be/YOE9D2n6Xt0 "Sometimes people say: “How can I possibly become a saint? Just avoiding hell is plenty! And anyway, it would be prideful of me to want to become like the holy apostles, martyrs, or monastic saints. This was meant for them, but probably not for me.” But Christ says: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father Which is in Heaven is perfect" (Matthew 5:48). From the lives of the saints it is clear that each of them, by his own choice, wanted to attain a great reward in Heaven and to rid himself of the burden of sin as quickly as possible, since sin was preventing him from ascending from strength to strength on the path to holiness." “Let us not deceive ourselves: any pause in the spiritual life is a step backwards! If we try to grasp the secret of success in any earthly undertaking – be it sport, science, or art – we will see that the successful are those that continue to work until they have attained their goal, regardless of hardships or setbacks. The successful person never says: “I cannot” or “that is beyond me,” but firmly believes that he will attain his desired result, anticipating the thrill of victory.” “How can we live calmly when we know our neighbor is headed for perdition? For if we do not try to preach to him, this means we do not love him: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God Whom he hath not seen? (1 John 4:20).” “The Lord arranges for the missionary to learn through converts. The Lord elevates the missionary higher and higher. But there is a necessary condition: the missionary must pray. Of course, mission itself teaches this: if someone does not pray, he will begin to grow discouraged due to his lack of success. If someone tries to be the mouth of God the Father, but does not turn to God the Father, nothing will come of it. One does not play around with missionary work. That is why missionary work forces people to pray, especially when they find themselves in extraordinary circumstances (and the missionary always lives in such extraordinary circumstances, for he is living between three worlds). His life is utterly intense, utterly rich, and the missionary grows accustomed to relying constantly upon the Lord God.” Orthodox Wisdom is dedicated to sharing the writings and lives of the Saints of the Orthodox Church. This is an interview I did on Martha Martha, my Catholic mom podcast, but the more I think about it, the more I wanted to share it here. My not-Catholic listeners seem to not mind the Catholic tangents I go on regularly, so here it is, guns ablazing. Father Harrison is just too good not to share with this larger audience. This episode features Eric Grech as the voice of French figurative artist Frédéric Blainmont. It is the first time we have experimented with our podcast guest being represented as an actor and the whole experience was quite interesting!Frédéric Blainmont is an observer of the everyday characters who are found in the banalest of situations. Anonymous figures emerged through his painting as he remains curious about his contemporaries. His paintings will allow you to leisurely criticise the supposed delinquencies, flaws, and inconsistencies found in society. In contrast, the paintings feel smooth, almost delicately and restfully executed. The subdued pastel palettes, plain backgrounds, and monochromatic play make the figures almost feel poetic.Frédéric paintings are profiles of accuracy, with a subtle dusting of condemnation. He captures men and women; exploring our relationships with bodies, with food, and the unavoidable issue of excess and overconsumption. Find Frédéric Blainmont on Instagram and on the @nordicartagencypodcast where we have featured several of the works discussed in the podcast. We are delighted to represent Frédéric Blainmont exclusively at the Nordic Art Agency and look forward to exhibiting a series of images at the Nordic Art Agency in our exhibition Interior Souls launching at the end of August 2021.
