Welcome, Catholic Pilgrims, to Season Five! This season we are going to be journeying with St. Frances Cabrini. She is the first missionary that we've read here on the podcast, so I think this season is going to have a very different flavor. Which is good. We need to see and learn from saints that were doing different things and living vocations and callings. So, how was it that I settled on Mother Cabrini? Download: READING LIST

Saint John Bosco was called at an early age by the Virgin Mary who tasked him with helping orphans wandering the streets during the early days of the Industrial Revolution. His ways with the youth included fun and games and always learning the word of God. From whistling to singing, from confessions and communion, to education for better jobs, his mission grew and continues with the international work of the Salesians or Society of St Frances de Sales today. St. Frances Cabrini knew that identity flows from relationship; not from mission. She let her mission flow from her friendship with the living God. Do I?
Friends of the Rosary, Today, November 13, we honor St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, an Italian missionary who spent much of her life working with Italian immigrants in the U.S. She is the patron of immigrants. Mother Cabrini established orphanages, hospitals, convents, and schools to help immigrants and to care for the sick and abandoned. Orphaned herself in Italy before she was 18, she joined the Sisters of the Sacred Heart and took on the name “Xavier” in honor of St. Francis Xavier, the great universal missionary. From a young age, longed to be a missionary in China, but God had other plans for her. At the advice of Pope Leo XIII, who told her “Not to the East, but to the West,” she focused her missionary efforts on the United States. She died in 1917 and was canonized in 1946, just before a new wave of immigrants began to arrive in the U.S. Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Saint Frances Cabrini, pray for us! 44 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field. Which a man having found, hid it, and for joy thereof goeth, and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. 45 Again the kingdom of heaven is like to a merchant seeking good pearls.Iterum simile est regnum caelorum homini negotiatori, quaerenti bonas margaritas. 46 Who when he had found one pearl of great price, went his way, and sold all that he had, and bought it.Inventa autem una pretiosa margarita, abiit, et vendidit omnia quae habuit, et emit eam. 47 Again the kingdom of heaven is like to a net cast into the sea, and gathering together of all kind of fishes. 48 Which, when it was filled, they drew out, and sitting by the shore, they chose out the good into vessels, but the bad they cast forth. 49 So shall it be at the end of the world. The angels shall go out, and shall separate the wicked from among the just.Sic erit in consummatione saeculi : exibunt angeli, et separabunt malos de medio justorum, 50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.et mittent eos in caminum ignis : ibi erit fletus, et stridor dentium. 51 Have ye understood all these things? They say to him: Yes.Intellexistis haec omnia? Dicunt ei : Etiam. 52 He said unto them: Therefore every scribe instructed in the kingdom of heaven, is like to a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure new things and old. Born at Dijon, Jane Frances was a bright example as daughter, spouse, mother and widow. She founded the Order of the Visitation, guided by Saint Frances de Sales. She died at Moulins A.D. 1641.

At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to the little ones.In illo tempore respondens Jesus dixit : Confiteor tibi, Pater, Domine caeli et terrae, quia abscondisti haec a sapientibus, et prudentibus, et revelasti ea parvulis. 26 Yea, Father; for so hath it seemed good in thy sight.Ita Pater : quoniam sic fuit placitum ante te. 27 All things are delivered to me by my Father. And no one knoweth the Son, but the Father: neither doth any one know the Father, but the Son, and he to whom it shall please the Son to reveal him. 28 Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you. 29 Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.Tollite jugum meum super vos, et discite a me, quia mitis sum, et humilis corde : et invenietis requiem animabus vestris. 30 For my yoke is sweet and my burden light. Frances Xavier Cabrini, also called Mother Cabrini, was an Italian-American religious sister. A schoolteacher, she was asked by her bishop to become a missionary. She traveled through the US and Latin and South America opening schools and hospitals. She died on Dec 12, 1907 while wrapping Christmas gifts for immigrant children.
