Marina Garcia, Karnes/Wilson Youth Prevention Services program director, explains the dangers of the opioid drug fentanyl, to students and parents attending a Sept. 22 presentation in the Floresville High School library. A similar presentation was offered Sept. 26 at the district's middle school. Several government entities experienced changes in leadership positions during 2021. Henrietta Turner surprised Floresville in January by resigning as city manager, a position she had held since September 2013. During Turner's tenure, the city obtained a number of grants to enable Floresville to build a new wastewater plant, replace waterlines, revamp City Hall and the police station, and construct new downtown sidewalks, curbs, and parking lots, and build a sports complex. FLORESVILLE — Brandishing posters stating, “It isn't big to make others feel small” and “If we are not safe, we do not attend,” protesters made their voices heard April 16 outside the Floresville Independent School District central office on Fifth Street. “We're trying to get change in Floresville ISD,” said Sara Quezada. Floresville Independent School District trustees have named Jason Gilstrap as the lone finalist in their search for the district's next superintendent. District trustees announced their selection at a March 10 special school board meeting.
