Welcome back once again for another episode from the wacky Nerds. This week we review the speculation of the latest offering from Marvel. Discuss issues confronting small game developers and some proposed solutions, and we also have a horny dinosaur. Sound exciting, it is, so strap in and come along for the ride. So, Marvel have announced the release of a new hero, and it is a Chinese character and speculation has been rife on who it is going to be. There are suggestions of a couple of Chinese heritage actors and everyone seems to be loving it. Even Buck is sounding kind of impressed. There are concerns about the back story of this character, but the hippies will certainly find something to complain about. Next we have the information about the struggles faced by small game developers trying to generate traction in today’s market place. Independent game developers are producing some interesting content back due to the market place they struggle to survive and remain in the market place. We also ask our resident developer about his experiences and how he dealt with them. Then we take a moment to learn about a horny dinosaur from China. Oops, sorry, a horned dinosaur from China, called the Auroraceratops, cousin of the Triceratops. Perfect for the individual in the market for a pet that is a little bit different. This beautiful little creature is adorable and a herbivore, with currently eighty examples having been found. We talk about the different possibilities of how it looks and found examples that are very different, including examples that have feathers. This will be followed by the usual discussions of games we are playing, shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and events of interest. We have lots of fun and laughter while recording this episode, and we hope you have just as much fun listening to it. As always remember to look after yourselves and look out for each other and stay hydrated.EPISODE NOTES:Speculation on Shang Chi - https://www.scmp.com/news/china/society/article/3018696/asian-movie-fans-rave-speculation-marvel-will-cast-chinese-actorHow small-time game devs make it - https://news3lv.com/around-the-web/making-it-as-the-little-guy-how-indie-game-developers-find-success-in-a-crowded-marketSmall horned dinosaur from China - https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/07/190712174056.htmGames currently playingBuck– Mafia 3 - https://store.steampowered.com/app/360430/Mafia_III/Professor- Crypt of the Necro Dancer - https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/crypt-of-the-necrodancer-nintendo-switch-edition/DJ- Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Game of the Year Edition - https://store.steampowered.com/app/4570/Warhammer_40000_Dawn_of_War__Game_of_the_Year_Edition/Other topics discussedShang Chi (Marvel Superhero)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shang-ChiIron Fist (Marvel Superhero)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Fist_(comics)Iron Fist Netflix controversy- https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/17/watching/iron-fist-review-roundup-controversy.htmlEddie Peng (Taiwanese – Canadian actor)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_PengWu-Kong (2017 Chinese fantasy-action-adventure film)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_KongFu Manchu (fictional villain character)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fu_ManchuFu Manchu (Marvel supervillain)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fu_Manchu_(comics)More info on the Auroraceratops- https://penntoday.upenn.edu/news/small-horned-dinosaur-china-triceratops-relative-walked-two-feet-penn-paleontologists-find- http://www.prehistoric-wildlife.com/species/a/auroraceratops.html- http://dinosaurpictures.org/Auroraceratops-picturesWarhammer 40K Lore and factions- Adepta Sororitas (also known as Sisters of Battle) - https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Adepta_Sororitas- Necrons - https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/NecronsWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine (2011 third-person shooter hack-n-slash video game)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_40,000:_Space_MarineThe Imitation Game (2014 movie)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Imitation_GameSpycatcher: The Candid Autobiography of a Senior Intelligence Officer (1987 book)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpycatcherOpen world cat game- http://www.ladbible.com/technology/gaming-open-world-game-where-you-solve-puzzles-as-a-cat-is-being-made-20190717Penguin stories- A white penguin - https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2019-07-17/white-king-penguin-found-on-macquarie-island/11317624?pfmredir=sm- Penguins in a sushi restaurant - https://i.redd.it/ozr622j96wa31.jpgShoutouts16 July 1910 – John Robertson Duigan makes the first flight of the Duigan pusher biplane, the first aircraft built in Australia.- http://www.ctie.monash.edu.au/hargrave/duigan_bio.html- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duigan_pusher_biplane16 Jul 1951 - J.D Salinger’s Catcher In The Rye was published as a novel - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Catcher_in_the_Rye16 Jul 2019 – Alan Turing is the new face of the £50 note - https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/jul/15/alan-turing-to-feature-on-new-50-noteRemembrances16 Jul 1882 - Mary Todd Lincoln, was the wife of the 16th President of the United States,Abraham Lincoln, and as such the First Lady of the United States from 1861 to 1865. Part 2 of Abraham Lincoln - The Life and Death of a Statesman by Professor Brian Schoen.
Part 1 of Abraham Lincoln - The Life and Death of a Statesman by Professor Brian Schoen.
The assassination of the 16th president is one of the singular events in American history, and historian Anthony Pitch uses primary source material to document and reveal previously unknown facts about Lincoln's death; the murder of his secretary of state, William Seward; and the events that led to the torturous incarceration of John Wilkes Booth's co-conspirators. According to Pitch, Lincoln was under threat of assassination from the time of his first inauguration, in 1861. Gen. Winfield Scott, in charge of military defenses in Washington, feared secessionists would kill Lincoln even before his inauguration. And six weeks before shooting Lincoln at Ford's Theatre, Booth was forcibly restrained from approaching the president as he walked through the rotunda of the Capitol to be sworn in for his second term. Pitch details the murder plots that were unsuccessful as well as the successful one by referencing hundred of sources. Most of his research was conducted at the Library of Congress. Speaker Biography: Historian Anthony Pitch is also the author "The Burning of Washington: The British Invasion of 1814." He spoke about that book at the Library in 1998.
When Abraham Lincoln was shot at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. on April 14, 1865, he was carrying two pairs of spectacles and a lens polisher, a pocketknife, a watch fob, a linen handkerchief, a brown leather wallet containing a five-dollar Confederate note, and nine newspaper clippings, including several favorable to the president and his policies. Given to his son Robert Todd upon Lincoln's death, these everyday items, which through association with tragedy had become like relics, were kept in the Lincoln family for more than seventy years. Because it is quite unusual for the Library to keep personal artifacts among its holdings, they were not put on display until 1976 when then Librarian of Congress Daniel Boorstin thought their exposure would humanize a man who had become "mythologically engulfed."
This episode of Inside Stories focuses on a walking tour about the search for President Lincoln's killer, which takes participants back to the days after the assassination. The tour is produced by Ford's Theatre, where Lincoln was shot. More info at www.InsideStoriesOnline.com.
