Notice I said “spirit” and not “spirituality.” To me they overlap, but this is not a faith based message. Our focus is, your spirit, which I think of like your energy and your “vibe” if you will. Thinking on spirituality, I grew up in a religious construct where many people who were devoted to their spirituality, had very poor and lacking spirits, in my experience. Think of people in your life who you enjoy being with. Really enjoy. How would you describe their spirit? Their energy? Their attitude? A few years back a book came across my desk, The Full Spirit Workout: A Ten-Step System to Shed Your Self-Doubt, Strengthen Your Spiritual Core, and Create a Fun and Fulfilling Life. The author is Kate Eckman. Kate had success as a competitive swimmer. Then she did stints as a model, a tv anchor and an international broadcast journalist. Then in a short span of time, two very close relationships in her life committed suicide and Kate found herself in tears at the pharmacy counter grasping for antianxiety meds and knew things were just not right. This began a significantly new trajectory of her life with a focus on our spirit. If you want a fit, strong and resilient body you nourish it, exercise it and allow it time to recover. How about your spirit? Your mindset, emotions and very soul? Are you working it out daily in order to keep it fit and resilient? In this conversation I walk with Kate through the pitfalls we all encounter in being strong and at peace with our self worth, confidence , self doubt, comparing ourselves to others and the struggle between our external and internal life. As you'll hear, Kate has much wisdom to offer, but in a very compassionate and raw...spirit. We hit some profound points and laughed...and cried. Kate Eckman, author of The Full Spirit Workout: A Ten-Step System to Shed Your Self-Doubt, Strengthen Your Spiritual Core, and Create a Fun and Fulfilling Life, is a Columbia University–certified executive leadership coach, a QVC Beauty host, and a former television reporter and body positive model. Her infectious enthusiasm is like a breath of fresh air…and the work she is doing to help individuals build inner strength and transform their lives from the inside out couldn't be more timely. A lot of people are tired of living a life based on comparison, competition, lack, and fear. They want to feel better, but don't know how. Kate Eckman, accomplished entrepreneur, elite athlete, mindfulness expert, and Columbia University-certified executive coach, used to be like a lot of people. On the surface, she was successful, high-level performer. But deep down, her life was full of less-tangible roadblocks — excess mental and emotional weight, deep-seated insecurity, self-judgment, and overwhelming stress and anxiety. In her upcoming new book The Full Spirit Workout: A Ten-Step System to Shed Your Self-Doubt, Strengthen Your Spiritual Core, and Create a Fun and Fulfilling Life, Kate shares the inner fitness regimen she used in her own life to generate a sense of self-worth and contentment from within. Rooted in neuroscience, positive psychology, and whole-person coaching techniques, her results-driven plan focuses on building spiritual and emotional muscles to feel confident and complete — regardless of others' expectations, approval, or criticism. The spiritual fitness principles and daily exercises that Kate offers in The Full Spirit Workout are the same ones she uses in her coaching practice with business leaders and professional athletes. Based on rigorous research and multifaceted training, her regimen demands a genuine commitment to change. But it's far from grueling, since Kate blends in creativity, flexibility, and delight so that each “rep” feels less like work and more like play. Kate's work is rooted in neuroscience, positive psychology, and whole-person coaching techniques. Passionate about mindfulness practices for both brain and body health, Kate is a meditation teacher and course creator for Insight Timer, the world's number-one ranked free meditation app. Visit her online at http://www.kateeckman.tv Learn more about your ad choices. She is also an accomplished entrepreneur, former elite athlete, former professional model, and a communications, performance and mindfulness expert. She empowers high-achieving individuals to actualize their full potential and her work is rooted in neuroscience, positive psychology, and whole-person coaching. As a competitive swimmer, model and broadcast journalist, Kate internalized strong work discipline, was challenged to create new tools for strengthening the confidence in herself, and experienced all what it takes to constantly perform at a high level.Along her journey and having gone through tragic losses, she discovered the value of diving into spirit. She began to study mindfulness techniques and has become an advocate of the benefits it has on both your brain and body health.Spirit is your superpower, it is your toolbox full of weapons to help you live a happy and fulfilled life. You can dive into your spirit and train this inner muscle to be more resilient against today's world. It will leverage your strengths. You will be more confident, productive and creative. You will perform at a higher level. Above all, you will be kind and compassionate. The best way to get started with training is with failure, taking all the pressure off yourself and practicing these five pillars (P's) of confidence and two bonus P's: presence, patience, practice, purpose, preparation, pause and person:Be present; be fully present in the moment but showing up like you mean it. Be patient; “Hold on loosely” and that means take action gently leaning into trusting the process. When you grip so tight to your goals you repel them. Practice; you need to take action to reach the results you want. Your results don't appear all of a sudden.Have a purpose. Have a strong ‘why' that will keep you going and reflecting on your experiences. Prepare yourself. #911: Kate Eckman looked to be doing it right. She'd succeeded as a competitive swimmer, model, tv anchor and broadcast journalist. Kate recently published a book titled, The Full Spirit Workout: A Ten-Step System to Shed Your Self-Doubt, Strengthen Your Spiritual Core, and Create a Fun and Fulfilling Life. In this episode I walk with her through the pitfalls we all encounter in being strong and at peace with our self worth, confidence , self doubt, comparing ourselves to others and the struggle between our external and internal life. As you'll hear, Kate has much wisdom to offer, but in a very raw, compassionate and raw...spirit. We hit some profound points and laughed...and cried. Well-being is a current obsession. When you hear this word, what comes to mind? Fitness? Nutrition? Bliss? A sense of belonging? What is often forgotten in these conversations is our spiritual well-being. For some people this means engagement with their religious traditions and faith communities. For others it is about connecting deeply with nature, the arts or social justice. Still for others, it means contemplative spiritual practices that connect us to a higher power. The common theme throughout all of these practices is a journey to understand ourselves in the context of something much larger and mysterious that invites curiosity, stillness, wonderment, reverence and courage. In this conversation I speak with Kate Eckman, an elite college athlete, broadcast journalist and TV personality and recent author of “The Full Spirit Workout: A Ten-Step System to Shed Your Self-Doubt, Strengthen Your Spiritual Core, and Create a Fun and Fulfilling Life.” We talk about the neuroscience behind our understanding of well-being — and what gets in our way of achieving and maintaining well-being. We discuss the curious versus the anxious brain and the learning versus the judging brain. We explore the questions of “when is enough, enough?” and “who do we really want to be?” We close with specific strategies on how to tip the scales from immobilizing fear to the ability to “stretch the comfort zone” and “build the emotional muscles.”About Kate EckmanKate Eckman is the author of The Full Spirit Workout: A Ten-Step System to Shed Your Self-Doubt, Strengthen Your Spiritual Core, and Create a Fun and Fulfilling Life.
