Fat loss is one topic that creates endless discussion. Liam, Becs and Harriet are here to break down why we get confused and what we can do about it.Some reasons people get confused Gross oversimplifcation - just get in a deficit vs over complication - tracking food / high days / low days, carb cycling…All the different diets - principles over methodsHow to actually apply a diet / way of eating to your lifestyleHow long should you follow a diet? How aggressive should you be (short bursts, long and slow)Common mistakes we discussLiquid calories. Added sugars and milks in teas and coffees can add up to around 300 kcal a day. Be wary of how many your are having.Eating too much at weekends. Don't be good 5 days a week then blow it for 2 days. This is very common! Include the 2 meals from the limit list at weekends and manage your excessSnacking too often. Grazing means we don't account for calories and can lead to overeating. Eat 4 times a day that is it. Still hungry after meals - increase protein and veg in that meal.Mindless eating. Eating whilst cooking. Eating whilst watching TV. Whilst driving. These are sneaky calories we don't account for.Portion control. Or lack of. Understanding how much you actually need is crucial.Monday to Thursday dieter. In my experience people are pretty good at being on plan from Monday - Thursday. But those 3 days at the end of the week…well thats a different story!99% of the time it isn't genetics or hormones. It is a lack of honesty and consistency.Enjoy! For more info on our programs head over to our website hereCheck out our Instagram page where we post tonnes of useful info here Hosted on Acast. A little over eight years ago when I finished my breast cancer treatment, my doctor told me I had three jobs to do my part in staying cancer free: maintain a healthy weight, exercise daily, and eat nutritionally. I was highly motivated and this launched me into a new journey of pursuing a healthy lifestyle.Last week, I was joined by Danna Demetre, and we talked about the things she wished she had known earlier in life. We had such a good conversation last week that I wanted to welcome her back this week to talk about the final item on her list: To be more intentional about caring for your body for health rather than for beauty.I have experienced the benefits of this personally. Since moving to a healthy lifestyle, I have less joint pain, my IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) is completely gone, my fibromyalgia flare ups have moved from monthly to once or twice a year, I've reduced my cholesterol numbers by 200 points (without medication!), I have more energy than ever before, and I feel the best I have in years. I have no doubt that I've also radically reduced my risk of cancer recurrence as well. A healthy lifestyle can make a huge difference. That's why I'm excited to share this episode with you!In this episode, you'll hear:The importance of developing small healthy habits each dayHow much weight our genetics has on our healthSome practical first steps to take on your journey towards a healthy lifestyleHow our thinking impacts what is possible in our healthy lifestyleThe connection between our physical health and our spiritual healthI loved talking with Danna, and this conversation is such an important one. Myriam Lluria Sitterson shares her story, starting with her early years as an immigrant from Havana, Cuba. As a child, she experienced violent reactions to vaccinations, chronic upper respiratory infections, and severe digestive issues. Like many Americans, her diet consisted of cheap, shelf-stable basics like Velveeta and Spam. She was in and out of hospitals and prescribed antibiotics for about three years, which wiped out many of the beneficial bacteria in her microbiome. Her teenage years weren't any easier. Menstrual issues, acne, fatigue, and migraines held her back from enjoying life like the rest of her peers. At age 19, she discovered a natural health food store and started her healing journey with a week-long water fast at a wellness retreat. For the first time in her life, she felt free from the toxins trapped in her body. Shortly after, she sought out the advice of one of the top gastroenterologists in Miami. When the doctor dismissed her by telling her that she was too young to be experiencing the issues she was going through, she knew she had to find another solution. When she started having kids, she finally connected with a pediatrician who affirmed her ideas about the connection between health and nutrition. She cut out wheat, dairy, and sugar for herself and her family, and has only continued to feel better as she ages. In this episode, Myriam and I discuss tips for how to create a non-toxic household and lifestyle. She shares her strategies for how she supports herself in terms of the level of toxic exposure in her environment, and how her entire life is structured to support her health. ‘When it comes to ethical marketing, our measures of success aren't just the amount of money that’s coming through the door. Because if your measure of success is just about how much money you’re making then it doesn’t matter how you make that money. It doesn't matter if you’re telling people the thing you’re selling is going to give them ‘X’ when in fact it doesn’t do that at all. You can sell all the promises and never deliver and for a while, that business model might work for you but most of the people I work with and certainly for myself in business, our measures of success are far more nuanced than that.’In today’s episode Kaity is joined by Anna Rogan, an ethical copywriter. There’s a better way to do marketing. One that doesn’t rely on old-school sleazy sales tactics. Or at least Anna Rogan — a stubbornly creative copywriter, determined olive farmer and truly hopeless optimist — believes so. Anna has a BA in psychology, a post-grad in writing and a decade-long career in comms and media roles for some pretty big brands under her belt. But these days she mainly writes for purpose-driven, heart-led small businesses and entrepreneurs.Let’s jump in!WHAT YOU’LL LEARN ABOUT IN THIS EPISODE:Ways to achieve ethical, effective copyBehind the scenes of a copywriting business - how charging for time not major projects creates flexibility in Anna’s weekly scheduleClients perspective on why hourly / per day rate is better than a time based modelChoosing the best business model for your service based business and your lifestyleHow to deal with clients that have overstepped boundaries and asked for more than originally agreed uponRESOURCES:Anna Rogan WebsiteAnna Rogan on InstagramKaity on InstagramKaity Griffin website

Why ADHD Is Not A Psychiatric Disorder Or Brain Disease | This episode is brought to you by Paleovalley and FarmacyThe rates of attention deficit disorder (ADD), today referred to as attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), have skyrocketed in recent years. But what is ADHD? ADHD is just a name we give to people who share a collection of symptoms: They can’t focus or pay attention, they’re inattentive, and they are hyperactive. These are symptoms. So, what are the causes? In this episode, Dr. Hyman sits down with Dr. George Papaicolaou to discuss the common drivers of ADHD, and why it is so important to identify and treat its causes, rather than its symptoms. They also share specific cases in which they have treated patients for ADHD.George Papanicolaou is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and is Board Certified in Family Medicine from Abington Memorial Hospital. He is also an Institute for Functional Medicine Practitioner. Upon graduation from his residency he joined the Indian Health Service. He worked on the Navajo reservation for 4 years at the Chinle Comprehensive Medical Facility where he served as the Outpatient Department Coordinator. In 2000, he founded Cornerstone Family Practice in Rowley, MA. He practiced with a philosophy centered on personal relationships and treating the whole person, not just not the disease. He called that philosophy “Whole Life Wellness”. Over time as the healthcare system made it harder for patients to receive this kind of personal care Dr. Papanicolaou decided a change was needed. He began training in Functional Medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine. In 2015, he established Cornerstone Personal Health – a practice dedicated entirely to Functional Medicine.
