Roland Olyphant began his career in 2006, initially embracing the underground music scene by playing minimal house. As he observed shifts in music and explored Western influences, he transitioned to crafting mellower, more melodic rhythms infused with ethnic and jazz elements, all while maintaining his unique aesthetic. A vinyl collector who adheres to the classic DJing approach, his record library boasts an up-to-date collection spanning groovy deep and tech house, techno, and modern minimal. Since 2009, in collaboration with the Double Sound team, Roland has been at the heart of St. Petersburg's nightlife, sharing the stage with renowned artists such as Fabiano, Gunnar Stiller, Kadebostan, Jin Choi, James Teej, and Dan Andrei. In 2016, Roland joined forces with fellow St. Petersburg DJ Lorum to form Ro.Lo. That same year, both DJs founded the TakaTaka project, presenting 'TakaTaka nights' across Russia. The 'TakaTaka podcast' series provides a window into the movement's intentions and ideas, featuring top sets by talented DJs and musicians. Roland Olyphant's refined taste and captivating stage presence have made him a popular DJ, frequently gracing the stages of St. Petersburg and embarking on extensive tours. His meticulously crafted DJ sets consistently capture the ambiance of each venue and the energy of the dancefloor. Currently focusing on music creation, Roland Olyphant is not just a DJ but also a producer of his own tracks. DJ/producer Gunnar Stiller has seen Berlin transform considerably over the last couple of decades, soaking in influence as well as helping shape its development as a musical force, becoming a fixture of the city's scene along the way. Whether playing in clubs around the world such as Panorama Bar and Watergate in Berlin, Hive Club Zurich, Baum in Bogotá and Glow Bangkok or producing his own tracks for respected labels like Upon.You Records, Smiley Fingers, Voltage Musique and Ballroom Records, Stiller's technique is deep in character, an outward-reaching combination of techno and techhouse with his trademark funk-tinged basslines. In 2003 while working as manager for Berlin-based event agency No Ufos, Gunnar found himself in the heart of a perfect playground to gain insight and develop his own style, which at the time was focused on deep house, breaks and electro. Inspired by those around him such as Steve Bug, Matthias Tanzmann and Martin Landsky, Stiller quickly began to carve out his own sound that impressed not just the dancers filling the floor but also any promoter and organizer who was paying attention. Pushing himself toward further success, he founded the artist alliance Edelmut in 2004 along with a few of his friends, an endeavor which quickly gained them notoriety as they played in the city's top clubs like Watergate, Bar25 and later the infamous KaterHolzig , the latter of which invited Gunnar to become a resident DJ, a position he gladly accepted. On top of this, he became a regular player at the legendary HomeSweetHome sessions. His debut release, the Heideberg EP, and its followup the Manaus Madness EP – both on Voltage Musique – landed directly within the Top 5 German club charts, and Marek Hemmann's remix of “Manaus Madness” was voted the #10 best remix by dance music authority Groove Magazine's 2010 readers' poll. It was around this time that Gunnar joined Upon.You Records as part of their label and booking roster, releasing a lot more EPs and contributing to the acclaimed label compilation Upon.You Diary, which was compiled by himself in 2014. These where followed by collaborations and remix projects with artists like Solomun, AndHim, Layo & Bushwacka!, Alex Niggemann, Danny Serrano, Ray Okpara, Nikola Gala, Larry Cadge, Odd People, Samuel Dan, Nakadia, Dj Le Roi or Loko and more released tracks on labels like Clap Your Hands, Smiley Fingers and Time Has Changed. In the last few years, he has been booked to play at top festivals such as Sonar Festival, Amsterdam Dance Event, Melt! How did these tracks influence your later career? A: It´s really hard to pick out some special tracks of the past, as there are so many I loved to play in my sets. This is a mix between older tracks, which really shaped my musicial style in the beginning of my DJ career as well as tracks which have an important weight for me. In the second half I also used some of the newer tracks I am playing in the moment. So its nice to see the development of the music I played in the last 12 years. Q: Besides DJing and producing you´re working for Upon.You. What´s your job there? A: I am not really working for Upon You as we were always a big family and it was more the passion for the label which took all of us to where we are today. Q: Which Gunnar Stiller releases are coming soon? A: There is definitely a new ep planned for Upon You as well as for Smiley Fingers. Currently I am working on a remix for my good friend Alexander Aurel and I have some ideas and wishes for the next months - lets see how it all comes together.
