A full four hours of the main man Caribou, recorded live at The Cause last summer. What more could you want to chase the blues away? Dan Snaith is one of the most enduring figures in 21st century electronic music. From early records as Manitoba, to 2010's Swim (which RA called Album of the Year in a runaway vote), to Grammy-winning 2014 hit album Our Love, as well as ongoing collaborations with Four Tet and dance floor excursions under his Daphni alias, the Canadian DJ-producer is a fixture for a reason. Ahead of a Caribou (Full Band) tour across the UK and Europe starting in February, we can now let loose the full four hour recording of his RA Live from 2024. In it, Snaith goes in hard, rolling out bassy, wobbly and fidgety heaters, running through everything from speed garage and UK funky to Afro house and anthemic deep house. It's what he truly does best: bangers on bangers (and more bangers). Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM38RA6dkMs @caribouband

"Singing is super vulnerable, but it's such a big release." The DJ and producer opens up about her new album and how she brings deeply personal issues to bear. Jayda G's father, William Richard Guy, died shortly before she turned ten. In the months leading up to his death, with the help of Jayda G's older sister, he recorded 11 hours of video tapes documenting his story for his youngest daughter. Guy, the Canadian DJ and producer's latest album on Ninja Tune, is built around snippets of his recordings, with each track inspired by either a particular chapter of his story or something she's learned about herself as she unpacked her grief. "This album is about him and for me," she wrote on Instagram. "I needed this. It gave me perspective, understanding and depth to myself and my outlook on life and family." For this episode of the RA Exchange, Jayda G spoke with Berlin-based artist Juba about making the album and the history that inspired it. She also opened up about integrating her own voice into her songs, a process that made her feel vulnerable, but also provided an enormous sense of release. While she doesn't have plans to sing the album live anytime soon, she revealed her other upcoming projects—including a feature-length documentary about her work in environmentalism—and how she balances her busy touring schedule with her parallel interest in science, her marriage and, most critically, her much-needed downtime. Listen to the episode in full.

There's no such thing as half-measures in Kid Koala land. Take, for example the recent release of Creatures of the Late-Afternoon. Most would be perfectly content to issue 20 tracks half as innovative and vibrant at this point in their career. Koala, on the other hand, created his own accompanying board game. For nearly 30 years, the Canadian DJ has pushed musical boundaries, fusing a broad range of genres together, with little regard for status quo. He's also elevated the work of others, from scores to films like Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim, to influential projects like Deltron 3030, Lovage and Handsome Boy Modeling School. Hosted on Acast. Here at Addicted to the Needle, we like to spin obscure tracks that you may have never heard before. But we don't just play music. We tell the stories behind the music. How about the story of a Canadian DJ who went to Jamaica in 1971 with Johnny Nash and got so high with Bob Marley that he started talking to his dead relatives. That's the ATTN commitment.

Alain Macklovitch, aka A-Trak is a Canadian DJ, turntables, record producer, and founder of record label Fools Gold. He started young, winning his first DJ Championship at the age of 15 and collecting 4 more world championships by 18. He is known for using highly technical turntable skills and scratching into his genre-spanning work. His craft caught the attention of Kanye West and A-Trak became Kanye's original tour DJ. This led him to start Fools Gold where he continues to develop the careers of several artists. One, early on, being Kid Cudi — you remember your favorite Cudi song Day + Night? We have this classic thanks to A-Trak. One of my favorite things about Alain is he is so multifaceted. I love talking to him about tech and politics. He is an artist, a leader, a mentor, a brother (who he also makes music with,) and his constant evolution with all of these things is exactly why he is where he is today. Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing Tyler Shaw over Zoom video! From a soothing ballad to an exhilarating electronic dance track, Tyler Shaw and Dzeko join forces to remix Shaw’s latest single “When You’re Home.” The world renowned Canadian DJ and producer took Tyler's most romantic song to date and transformed it into an infectious club beat, proving Shaw’s sounds are bound to no genre.“When I first heard ‘When You’re Home’ I instantly had an idea to do a remix to it.” says Dzeko on its inspiration, “This remix will give you a completely different take on the song with a more melodic house feel to it.” Tyler Shaw adds, “Dzeko is such an immense talent and I love his vibe so I knew he would bring the right energy to this. I knew I could trust him with remixing it.”The remix comes after an already impressive start to the year. “When You’re Home” was Tyler’s first release in 2021 and originally produced by Grammy-award nominated Jon Levine (Dua Lipa, Alessia Cara, Bebe Rexha, Drake), and written by Tyler Shaw, Alex Beitzke (James Arthur), and Henry Brill (Jack Garrat). Garnering praise from publications including 1883 Magazine, American Songwriter, Marie Claire, Parade, Euphoria, and a wealth of international playlists including Spotify’s 'New Music Friday', Apple Music's 'New Music Daily' and the cover of Amazon Music's 'Fresh Pop', the world is taking note of Shaw's talents. With the release of “When You’re Home” and this latest version, Tyler’s momentum continues to rapidly rise as he breaks into both the US and UK.A multi-platinum selling artist with a seasoned history in the music industry, Tyler Shaw is no stranger to collaborations as he has worked with some of the biggest artists across the globe such as Avril Lavigne, Fefe Dobson, Justin Bieber, Michael Bublé, Sarah McLachlan, Walk Off The Earth, toured with Selena Gomez and opened for massive international acts like Alessia Cara and Shawn Mendes. The “When You’re Home” remix with Dzeko adds more excitement for Tyler’s future as he keeps us guessing for what’s coming next.Dzeko is a platinum-certified electronic music DJ from Toronto, Canada. Dzeko uncovered a passion for producing and DJing at the age of 14. By the age of 17, Dzeko had caught the eye of countless global superstars, including direct support from the likes of Tiësto, Steve Aoki, to name a few. His dream had started young, and no ceiling was in sight for what this prodigal producer was set to create. This pedigree quickly thrust Dzeko to global stardom on the stages of Tomorrowland, TomorrowWorld, Creamfields, Ultra Music Festival, and Coachella. In 2018 Dzeko joined his Grammy-winning compatriot Tiësto in the platinum circle with their instant hit "Jackie Chan" featuring Preme and Post Malone. Skyrocketing to success as the summer's undisputed hit track, the song was endowed with a Best Dance Recording nomination at the Billboard Music Awards, a JUNO nomination, and labelled as SOCAN best pop song.We want to hear from you! This week on The Kelly Alexander Show we chat with Platinum-selling recording artist, producer and actor Tyler Shaw about his new single "When You're Home" and becoming a new dad and how that has changed him as an artist and person. We also speak to Canadian DJ and producer Famba about his new single "Still Call You Mine," the production process he goes through to create his music and which superstar DJ he'd like to work with. DJ and producer Eris Drew talks to Octo Octa, Jayda G, and Kate Pierson of The B-52's about who they’ve remixed recently, why it's hard to do DJ mixes and not be able to look at the crowd, why 1950s rock'n'roll is important for dance music, and the role positivity plays in their music. Eris is a transgender DJ and producer, originally from Chicago, who started raving in the early 90s, eventually mastering the art of vinyl DJing. She now tours the world playing back-to-back with her partner in life and music, Octo Octa, the ecstatic House producer and DJ based in New Hampshire. They run the T4T LUV NRG record label together. Also on the show is Jayda G, a Grammy-nominated Canadian DJ and producer now based in London, who has made a huge impression on the underground dance scene over the last few years. She released her debut album Significant Changes on the Ninja Tune label in 2019. She’s also a scientist, having studied environmental toxicology. And finally, we have musical royalty with Kate Pierson. A singer, lyricist, multi-instrumentalist, and co-founder of one of the world's most famous rock'n'roll bands, the B-52’s. They defined rock through the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s with hits such as Love Shack, Roam, Private Idaho, and Rock Lobster.
Bside Incoming: The Mole This week's episode of Bside Incoming has been placed in the reliable hands of Canadian DJ and Producer, avid collector of records, label boss of Maybe Tomorrow, and man of musical passion: Colin de la Plante AKA The Mole. Often to be found digging blindly into uncharted subterranean regions on the impassioned pursuit of novel sounds, The Mole endeavours to return to the surface with buried treasures for the keen and willing ears of his audience. Beyond his reputation as a top class live act with an infectious enthusiasm behind the decks, there is much to be said for his prowess as a producer, notably his involvement with Units & Measurements, The Modern Deep Left Quartet, and most recently with his Deadbeat Meets the Mole release on BLKRTZ. Go check out his discogs/bandcamp pages for more: https://themole.bandcamp.com/ https://www.discogs.com/artist/111868-The-Mole With a career spanning 20 years: originating in Vancouver and currently based in Berlin; releases on such prestigious labels as Ostgut Ton, Perlon, Musique Risquée and Internasjonal; worldwide festival appearances at Mutek, Houghton, Sandbox and Outline; and an ever longer list of collaborative musical projects… we are certainly very excited for Colin to guide us through some of his most cherished Bsides. Starting out with a focus on slow burning percussion, and left field jazz, before picking up the pace with some smooth electronica, feel good funky beats and some powerful disco. A healthy dose of legendary artists: Patrick Adams, Billy Preston, Marvin Gaye and Hamilton Bohannon; lightly sprinkled with soulful global sounds throughout and an excellent history lesson for each record. Ever tasteful in his selection, and always keeping us on our toes… The Mole keeps on giving! Enjoy!

A Tribe Called Red - "Land Back (feat. Boogey the Beat & Northern Voice)," a 2020 self-released single. Canadian DJ duo A Tribe Called Red have a long history of using their public platform to amplify the indigenous community, and with today's Song of the Day, they're showing their support for the Wet’suwet’en people, whose sovereign lands are being invaded by the RCMP and the Coastal GasLink pipeline. They're offering this song for free on their Soundcloud page and are encouraging listeners to donate to the Unist'ot'en 2020 Legal Fund in return. The band also shared this statement alongside the release: We oppose the invasion of sovereign Indigenous lands by the RCMP and the Coastal GasLink pipeline. We stand with the Wet’suwet’en people and their hereditary chiefs. We stand with all the people working to support their fight. We will be making this song available to download for free and free to be used for anyone working to defend the Wet’suwet’en territories and all action that defend the right of Indigenous land sovereignty and to promote a true nation to nation discussion between the Indigenous nations of Turtle Island and our Canadian settlers. Until our Canadians are willing to treat the Indigenous nations of this land with the respect due, a sovereign people’s reconciliation will remain an empty gesture. It was the work of our good friend Whess Harman that inspired us to give the song away to the movement. Not only because of their work in the frontlines of resistance in Vancouver, but also because they are using their art for the movement. Whess designed the “Land Back” patch that is featured in our cover art, and has been selling them to raise money for the Unist'ot'en Camp Legal Fund. We will be making a donation to the same fund for our use of Whess' art. We encourage you to donate to the legal fund as well by following this link: https://actionnetwork.org/fundraising... The Halluci Nation would like to thank our friends and collaborators who have helped make this possible. Without our community we are nothing.
