This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Hale Centre Theatre, born from a deep passion for theatre, is celebrated for its world-class productions. Offering musicals, plays and educational programs, it combines artistic excellence with state-of-the-art technology and craftsmanship to create unforgettable experiences. Co-founder and artistic director, Sally Dietlein, joins us with more. Sally Dietlein: At Hale Centre Theatre, we're proud of the world-class productions we've brought to Utah since 1985. We offer everything from musicals to plays in our state-of-the-art round theater, which is one of the most advanced for live performances in the world. What truly sets us apart, however, is our commitment to our community. While we started as a for-profit organization, we became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1997, and that shift allowed us to grow and focus even more on giving back to Utah. Our theater isn't just a place for performances — it's a home for local talent, an economic driver and a space where everyone can feel a sense of ownership. I invite you to come see what makes Hale Centre Theatre so special. Whether you're joining us for a show or supporting the arts, you're contributing to something that enriches the entire community. In the mid-1980's, Mark and Sally Dietlein helped convert an old factory with a leaky roof into a theater with a round stage.  They opened up to a paid attendance of 25 people.  Over time, sold-out crowds forced the Hale Centre Theatre to knock out walls, add seats, and twice build bigger, newer venues.  Today, they continue to host sold-out performances every year to over a half million theatergoers on one of the world's most technically-advanced stages.  For the Dietleins, finding joy in others' happiness never gets old.

This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business. Hale Centre Theatre in Sandy is now in its 36th year of entertaining over a half million patrons annually. When Utah's COVID-19 recovery plan, Utah Leads Together, allowed for the opening of theaters, Hale Centre Theatre worked to implement a plan to promote the safety of both its patrons and team to keep artisans employed during this unprecedented time. CEO and co-founder, Mark Dietlein, is here with details. MARK DIETLEIN Since reopening after our COVID-19 closure, over 300 local professional artisans and actors are thrilled to be back at work at Hale Center Theatre, creating memorable experiences for patrons as they laugh, clap and thrill in the magic of live theatre. When we surveyed our patrons, we found that 70% were ready to enjoy live theatre again. Stringent safety precautions are in place for those attending, including wearing masks while in the theatre. We have implemented digital phone-friendly show programs, designed to minimize person-to-person contact in an easy-to-navigate format. We invite everyone to attend our current shows – Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express and Million Dollar Quartet, including music by Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis – as we fulfill our mission of “enriching lives through world-class theater.” DEREK MILLER We recognize the Hale Center Theatre's role as one that brings hope, relief and joy to Utahns.
