With The Late Show with Stephen Colbert coming to an end, Emmy-winning Set Decorator Kim Wannop looks at the design history of late-night television through the rooms we know so well: the desk, the guest chair, the skyline, the curtains, the bandstand, and the host's chair. In this episode of Decorating Pages, Kim breaks down late-night TV set design from Johnny Carson to David Letterman, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and Seth Meyers. She looks at Carson's iconic command-center set, Letterman's strange and brilliant NBC office energy, his move to CBS and the historic Ed Sullivan Theater, Colbert's grand restoration of that theater, Kimmel's Hollywood-after-dark lounge, Fallon's warm New York variety show, and Seth Meyers' writer's room with a view. This is a set decorator's look at how late-night shows use similar design staples but create completely different identities for each host. Because in late night, the desk is not just furniture. The room tells us what kind of night we're about to have.Listen to Decorating Pages for production design, set decoration, TV design, film design, Emmy FYC interviews, and behind-the-scenes conversations about the worlds built for screen.

Taitung County is also on alert for foehn wind conditions. Independent meteorologist Wu De-rong says today and tomorrow will be sunny and stable (穩定) across the island, with morning fog possible in some areas and afternoon heat comparable to midsummer. Wu says a weak front is forecast to drift near northern Taiwan on the 15th and 16th, bringing occasional brief showers to the north while the rest of the island stays mostly sunny. E356. Lights, Camera, Action: Showing Up Like the Hero of Your Own Story (Pt 2)

April Garcia's PivotMe

Last episode, you designed the set. You grabbed your clipboard, put on your headset, and built the environment for the Star of your show to thrive. Now it's time to step in front of the camera — because the film crew just showed up, and they're capturing everything. In this electrifying follow-up episode, April Garcia takes the Set Design framework to the next level with a challenge that will make you think twice about every decision you make this week. Are you ready to deliver your best performance yet? Key Takeaways: The Film Crew is Rolling: Imagine a film crew followed you from the moment you woke up this morning. They were in the car. They were at the gym. They were there when you talked to your kids, your partner, your team. What did they capture? Would you be proud of what ends up on screen? You Are the CEO of YOU Inc.: April references Keith Cunningham's The Road Less Stupid to introduce one of the most empowering — and sobering — reframes in the show's history. You are the CEO of your own life. That means you own the results across every department: Sales, R&D, Health, Finances, Relationships, Education, and Personal Development. Every win and every loss is a direct reflection of your management — or your mismanagement. The Board of Directors is Watching: Whether it's a film crew or a board of directors reviewing your performance this month — they saw every phone call, every distraction, every moment you showed up fully and every moment you didn't. What would their report say about the leading character? Two Reasons This Exercise Works: It raises your game. When you imagine someone watching, you naturally bring more intention, more energy, and more excellence to everything you do. It empowers you. The power is entirely in your hands. No one to blame. No circumstances to hide behind. You are the hero — or you're not. That choice belongs to no one else. No One Else is Playing You: This is the line that lands hardest. There is no understudy. No one else stepping into your role as a parent, a leader, a partner, a builder. Only you. And that means only you can decide to show up like the star the role deserves. The Challenge This Week: Carry the film crew with you everywhere you go. Let the imagined presence of that camera be the standard you hold yourself to. Deliver a performance you are proud of — not for the audience, but because you decided to be the hero of your own story. Resource Mentioned:

Before a single word is spoken in a movie, you already know everything about the main character. The messy apartment. The tipped-over vodka bottle. The pizza box on the floor. The alarm clock reading 11am. No dialogue needed — the set has already told the story. In this unforgettable episode of PivotMe, April Garcia introduces one of the most powerful and creative frameworks she's ever brought to the show: Set Design. Recorded from a charming Charleston hotel, this episode will change the way you look at every room you walk into — starting with your own. Key Takeaways: Your Environment Is Already Telling a Story: Every space around you — your office, your bedroom, your car — is communicating something about you before you say a word. The question isn't whether your set is telling a story. It's what story it's telling. Set Design as a Life Framework: April reframes the concept of environment design through the lens of filmmaking. You are not just living in your space — you are the director, the producer, and the star of your own show. It's time to start acting like it. Begin With the End in Mind: Instead of asking "what do I need to do to become that person?", April flips the script entirely. Start with the character you want to be — the extraordinary leader, the wildly organized entrepreneur, the deeply present partner — and design the set for that person first. Fill in the Blank: The main character is ___. April challenges listeners to complete that sentence with intention and then audit every element of their environment against it. Does your set match your character? The Banana Story: In a hilarious and instructive aside, April shares what happens when you leave a banana in your office overnight — and why even the smallest environmental details matter more than you think. One Rule for Today: You are NOT thinking about how to become that person. You are NOT making a to-do list of habits and behaviors. Today, you are only thinking about the set. Design it first. The character follows. Coming Up Next: April teases the next episode, where she dives into how to leverage the presence and pressure of a film crew to step fully into the hero of your story. Notable Quotes: "You haven't met the character yet and you've already made up your mind. That is the power of set design." — April Garcia "Every day, whether you're intentional about it or not, you are designing your set. The only question is — are you doing it on purpose?" — April Garcia Actionable Items: Look around your office and your bedroom right now — write down the story a stranger would tell about you based purely on what they see. Fill in the blank: The main character of my life is ___. List 3–5 specific changes you can make to your physical environment today that reflect that leading character. Put your director's hat on — walk through your space as if you're scouting a film set. What stays? What goes? What needs to be added? Do NOT focus on habits or behaviors yet. Only the set. Trust the process. ---------------- Ready to take this work beyond the podcast? Join us at Collaborate 2026, our once-a-year, in-person transformational experience in Grass Valley, California. American International Pictures had made money with Italian films such as Black Sunday (1960) but would often need to oversee many changes to make the films suitable for an American audience. Their solution was to provide a script and co-produce a film so they could control the content.   The film had a small budget of around $200,000 and although it definitely has its fair share of Schlock, Bava had a reputation for doing a lot on a small budget.  My guests unravel why Mario Bava's reputation and love for this film continue to grow.  Scott Higgins is Professor of Film at Wesleyan University as well as being the Curator of the Wesleyan Cinema Archives.  Russ Hunter is an Assistant Professor in Film & Television Studies at Northumbria University. Warum? Timeline-Shortcuts 00:14 Anmoderation 03:18 Was ist „Yes or No Games"? A Small Voice: Conversations With Photographers

Anna Arendt is a photographer and visual artist living and working in Berlin whose images explore memory, silence, loss, and the invisible links between personal history and larger events. Her work often moves between personal, historical, and symbolic worlds, shot in black-and-white to capture places where the past and present meet.Anna was born in the German Democratic Republic and was 24 when The Wall fell, at which time her daughter was two. Her parents were born 1940 in Germany, children of war. Both of her grandfathers had been soldiers, who had been in Poland between 1940 and 1942. One came back 2 years after the war was over, the other one never returned. As a child Anna found a secret shelf that contained photo albums of her family. "It is where I discovered the power of a picture. A picture taken in summer 1940. A young family, my grandmother, her baby and my grandfather in a German uniform. A picture full of contradictions, carrying ambivalent feelings even today."Anna graduated with a degree in Fine Arts and Set Design and then received a one-year grant from the DAAD to study photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York. For 15 years, she worked as a set and costume designer for opera, drama, and puppet theater, collaborating with directors at theaters across Germany and Switzerland.Anna recently published her first book, Vanishing, with Charcoal Press. Photographed mostly between Germany and Poland over 15 years, the work slides back and forth through time like a blood memory. Walking naked through the dark forest, wolves circling, howling. A daughter becoming a mother becoming a grandmother becoming a child. Haunted villages, and souls in jeopardy. The harsh reality of the past merges seamlessly with moments of rapture that feel plucked from a Grimm fairy tale.Photography has now become the center of Anna's creative life. She continues to develop long-term projects that reflect her search for meaning in places marked by beauty, pain, and the mysteries of time. Alongside her artistic work, she also works with disabled people in an art workshop, sharing the joy of creative expression. In episode 260, Anna discusses, among other things:The origins of her photographyGrowing up in East GermanyBeginning to understand her family historyThe fall of the Berlin wall in 1989Being ‘connected to pictures'The importance of visiting Poland and its significance for her familyThe cast of characters in the book, including wolves…….And her friend, who sadly diedAllowing the photograph to tell her what it wants to be (and where)How Charcoal Press came to publish the bookHer collaboration with publisher Jesse LenzHaving a day job and a change of identityWhat she's currently up to in the darkroom EPISODE SPONSORS:CHARCOAL WORKSHOPS. THE ‘SUMMER SERIES' TAKING PLACE IN PORTLAND, MAINE, SEPTEMBER 15-19, 2025. FEATURING: ANTOINE D'AGATA, TODD HIDO AND CHRISTIAN PATERSON.
