They are joined first by jockey-turned-TV pundit Ruby Walsh, who voices strong criticism of the new BHA jump measures, amongst which is a rule that would have prevented last year's winner, Poniros, running in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham. Also today, Nick and Oli ask how significant is Ian Duncan Smith's latest intervention in the gambling tax debate, Ayr maestro Jim Goldie shares the secrets of the longevity of his stable stars and why his unconventional campaigning works, Charlie Fellowes brings you up to speed on this weekend's Newmarket Open day, Orlando drops by from the Fitzdares trading room, and Dr Roberto Righi Schwammwer has news on Italy's premier yearling sale.
In this episode of iGaming Daily, brought to you by Optimove, SBC's Martyn Elliott, Ted Menmuir and Ted Orme-Claye, explore a pivotal moment for UK gambling regulation as the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Gambling Reform reconvenes to launch a new inquiry into the sector's future. Chaired by Conservative Sir Iain Duncan Smith, the inquiry revisits the Gambling Act review white paper to assess whether proposed reforms still meet the evolving demands of public policy and industry accountability.Key topics at the heart of the inquiry include gambling advertising, stake limits, and the role of local authorities in regulating high-street betting. Reform advocates are calling for stricter controls on TV ads, sports sponsorships, and social media promotions, especially to protect younger audiences. Other areas under review may include the statutory levy, financial risk checks, and the creation of a gambling ombudsman to oversee consumer protections. This episode also examines the growing tension between reformist momentum and the gambling industry's lack of a unified political voice. As the UK government faces competing priorities, this inquiry could act as a catalyst for significant change, particularly in high-visibility areas like advertising, where public sentiment may sway policy decisions quickly.Host: Martyn ElliottGuests: Ted Menmuir & Ted Orme-ClayeProducer: Anaya McDonaldEditor: James RossiGaming Daily is also now on TikTok. The Charity cars wash raised a massive £657.57 for the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans, it was such a success that there are now plans for a further 2 Charity Car Washes next year. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Hundreds of cabbies gave up their day yesterday to transport veterans to the cenotaph from all major rail stations and various other locations. Mike Hughs in an interview with Cab Chat said that he thought this years event was the best yet, with more taxis than ever, more help from companies within the taxi trade and more helpers as marshalls with families of cabbies, knowledge boys and girls and staff from associated companies helping out. Plan insurance were there in force helping with the marshalling at Victoria Station. The day had such a good feeling and atmosphere about it with many of the general public asking what the cabbies were doing and praising them. This sort of event really does go a long way to raising the profile of the London Taxi Trade. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ TFL sat before the GLA Transport Committee today to give evidence. David Kurten asked Helen Chapman is an app booking plying for hire or a pre booking, Helen replied a pre booking and then 3 minutes later stated the whole app booking process needs looking into! Steve Garelick made the case for a London minimum fare but didn't really elaborate on how this would be achieved, it's quite simple Steve, PH operators need to raise the prices, but no they wouldn’t want to do that for fear of passengers returning to using the best taxi service in the World. James Fararr spoke very well about workers rights and employment status and the fact that many PH drivers were being exploited, but didn't really tackle the elephant in the room that there is far too many PH vehicles on the road. Also when asked how many members the UPHD had he would not answer, stating that the UPHD believe their member numbers are confidential. Gareth Powell also confirmed that he believe interacting with an app while driving is unsafe. When question about the ridiculous amount of time TFL are taking to process driver license renewals and what are TFL doing about it, Helen Chapman replied stating that they are tackling the problem by switching off the telephone lines during the daytime to divert resources. There was no response as to why it takes so long, over 4 months to process a license renewal. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A point to ponder, if an app job is considered by Helen Chapman to be a pre booking does the same apply when a doorman hails the cab instead of the passenger? No the Taxi is still plying for hire in the same way as any vehicle offering their services for immediate hire via an app. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ TFL have promised to install 300 electric charge points across London by 2022, although they want 9000 electric cabs on the road by the end of 2020, and it must be remembered that only a small proportion of these promised charge points will be Taxi only. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Taxi App have promised every driver £13.60 per month subs if they manage to attract 500 new drivers by the end of November. The Paulz are in tumult: HMRC are chasing them up and down the country for blockading the entrance to their headquarters and the strapping young podcastmen just don’t ruddy care! They’ve made a fort out of sleeping bags and Domino’s boxes and have resolved to watch all 127 minutes of George Lucas’s Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace right there in the doorway, their naked feet and arses exposed to the unforgiving winter air of the British Isles (and Tesco’s jam) because apparently Ian Duncan Smith bet them they couldn’t find even one good thing about it. Who's the real fool here? Anyway, the twist is both Pauls were arrested for movie piracy. Damn. Best send some jedis in to save the hapless fuckidiots. Featuring: some REALLY offensive accents, well-trodden ground, when not to be a Yes Man and our invitations to the ranch rescinded forever.

What would you rather see, Jeremy Corbyn's favourite film or Ian Duncan Smith's least favourite film? Don't worry you don't have to choose you just have to go see I, Daniel Blake - Ken Loach's brilliant, powerful film about the failures of the welfare state. We spent most of the review just crying and applauding, but apparently Katie's edited that out and just kept the bits where we talked. Meanwhile, Danny reviews Queen of Katwe, the Ugandan set drama starring Lupita Nyong'o and David Oyelowo. If you like chess, poverty and inspiration (and why wouldn't you) then this is the movie for you. PLUS we discuss YouTube's plans to muscle in on the TV market, examine the new Star Wars: Rogue One trailer in absurd depths, and wonder whether Danny Elfman is a racist. Alternative researcher Chris Spivey joins us for another Good Vibrations and some more direct talk, on this occasion, addressing institutionalised paedophilia and sexual corruption within all levels of The British Establishment. We begin by talking about one of his blog articles which goes way beyond now-familiar names like Rolf Harris and William Roache, to examine how far sexual deviancy is entrenched within the entertainment world. This can be followed upstream into Parliament, Chris says, and all the way to the Royal Family, whose history is steeped in paedophilia and child abuse. We question how it is that so many apparent 'pillars of society' turn out to be compromised in this way, with the suggestion that corruption and the capacity for blackmail is the basis on which our current sick institutions are founded. Chris speculates that the time surely can't be far off when the veil is lifted on the whole grotesque system, and the British public is forced to overcome its denial and come to terms with the sordid truth. We finish by discussing the recent death of 'Lord' McAlpine, and the low-profile way in which it has been reported, in contrast to the loud fiasco concerning his alleged 'outing' as a paedophile. Other names discussed include Jimmy Savile, Simon Cowell, Jonathan King, Tony and Cherie Blair, Gordon and Sarah Brown, Margaret Thatcher, William Hague and Ffion, Ian Duncan Smith, Leon Brittan and Barack and Michelle Obama.
