His data-driven content marketing approach turned proprietary sales call analytics into viral marketing gold that media outlets couldn't resist covering.Udi is the author of "Courageous Marketing" and has over 28 years of marketing experience across multiple successful tech companies. Unique Device Identification (UDI) has become a central element of medical device compliance worldwide. From EUDAMED in Europe to FDA databases in the United States, regulators increasingly rely on accurate UDI data to improve traceability and patient safety. But many manufacturers underestimate one important reality:
The implementation of Unique Device Identification (UDI) has already transformed regulatory compliance in the medical device industry. Now, Europe is introducing an additional layer: Master UDI-DI — adding both structure and complexity to the system.Understanding the UDI StructureTo fully understand Master UDI-DI, it's important to distinguish between the different levels:• UDI-DI → Identifies a specific device• Basic UDI-DI → Groups devices with the same intended purpose and characteristics• Master UDI-DI → Applies to highly individualized devices with specific design parametersThis new layer aims to better manage products with high variability. Why Master UDI-DI Was IntroducedFor certain devices — such as spectacle frames, lenses, and other customizable products — the number of variations can become overwhelming.Master UDI-DI helps:• Reduce the number of identifiers required• Improve traceability• Simplify product grouping• Enhance recall efficiencyKey BenefitsDespite its complexity, Master UDI-DI brings several advantages:✔ Better organization of device data✔ Improved market surveillance✔ Faster identification during recalls✔ Stronger protection against counterfeit productsChallenges for ManufacturersHowever, the implementation is not without challenges:• Increased data requirements• Risk of incorrect UDI assignment• Need for cross-functional coordination• Integration with EUDAMEDAs highlighted in the discussion, errors in UDI can be costly — including recalls and data inconsistencies.Timeline and UrgencyWhile the labeling deadline is set for November 2028, manufacturers should not wait.EUDAMED requirements are already active, and preparation takes time.
Conduce Cecilia Rovaretti.

What does it take to build a brand in B2B that people actually talk about? Udi Ledergor has a word for it. Courage. He was employee #13 at Gong. The first, and for a long time, only marketer. He joined when nobody had heard of them, with 11 paying customers and zero brand presence. By the time he stepped back, Gong was doing $300M ARR, had five of the Fortune 10 as clients, and had become one of the most recognisable names in B2B. He did it by building what he calls courageous marketing — the belief that attention only goes to brands willing to do something genuinely different. Not different for the sake of it. Different because playing it safe, copying competitors, and following the same templates everyone else follows is the surest way to be completely invisible. We sat down with Udi live in London, and the conversation went places we didn't expect.
What makes a brand truly stick? In this episode of The Unified Brand Podcast, Chris welcomes back brand strategist, author and founder of First The Trousers, Then The Shoes, Ulli Appelbaum, to unpack the science behind brand associations and why they play such a powerful role in growth.Udi explains how brands are built in memory, why emotion and relevance matter more than most marketers realise, and how strong association networks influence what customers choose in the moment of purchase. They explore:what brand associations actually arewhy memory, emotion and personal relevance drive brand choicehow positioning connects to associationsthe role of distinctive brand assets like packaging, sound and shapewhy consistency beats constant reinventionhow brands like Coke, Nutella, Red Bull, Snickers and Ferrero Rocher create lasting mental availabilitywhy some newer brands hook attention but struggle to sustain loyaltyThis is a practical conversation for founders, marketers and business leaders who want to build brands that are not just seen, but remembered.Connect with Ulli AppelbaumWebsite: https://first-the-trousers.com/ulli-appelbaum/Consultancy: https://first-the-trousers.com/LinkedIn (Ulli Appelbaum): https://www.linkedin.com/in/ulliappelbaumLinkedIn (First The Trousers Then The Shoes): https://www.linkedin.com/company/first-the-trousers-then-the-shoesExplore Ulli's BooksAmazon Author Page (UK): https://www.amazon.co.uk/stores/author/B09RMLG5BKAmazon Author Page (US): https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B09RMLG5BK-----------------

CyberArk founder and executive chairman Udi Mokady returns to Security Matters at a transformational moment—now as part of Palo Alto Networks, following the acquisition's close on February 11. In this far‑reaching conversation, Udi and host David Puner explore why identity has become the attack vector for modern enterprises, driven by an unprecedented surge in human, machine and AI‑powered identities that attackers increasingly exploit.Udi discusses what the combined companies' scale and capabilities mean for customers, why identity security must now operate as frontline defense rather than a management layer, and how AI agents are rapidly reshaping the threat landscape. He also reflects on CyberArk's long‑distance entrepreneurial journey, the cultural foundations that have made the company durable over 26 years, and how productive paranoia, innovation and trust continue to guide the mission forward inside Palo Alto Networks.Note: This episode was recorded in January, prior to the acquisition's close.
Salespeople who swear on their calls close 8% more deals. Marketing teams using pink and purple instead of "Series A Blues" get more attention. Companies that avoid pissing anyone off end up exciting no one. In this episode, we sit down with Udi Ledergor, Chief Evangelist and former CMO at Gong, to unpack the psychology behind courageous marketing, the real impact of AI on sales teams, and why being different beats being better every single time. Udi reveals how Gong built one of the most recognizable brands in B2B by rejecting best practices, embracing controversy, and creating a culture where teams feel safe to fail. From the drooling bulldog mascot that made enterprise customers angry, to the viral research on swearing in sales calls, to the plain-text email that generated 700 event registrations in hours—this is a masterclass in standing out in a sea of sameness. We also dive deep into AI: what it can actually do right now, what it can't, and why the creators of ChatGPT don't use ChatGPT to run their revenue teams. Spoiler: AI isn't coming for your job. But salespeople who know how to use AI are coming for the jobs of those who don't. What You'll Learn: Why swearing on sales calls increases win rates by 8% The danger of "best practices" and why boring is the biggest risk in B2B marketing How to build a brand that polarizes—without crossing the line The two buckets of AI: what it can automate vs. what it can guide you on Why OpenAI and Anthropic use Gong to run their revenue teams (and what that tells you about generic LLMs) The plain-text email experiment that got 700 event sign-ups in hours How to create psychological safety on your team so they take risks and do their best work Why indifference is worse than hate when it comes to your messaging From privacy policy emails that went viral, to bulldogs on login screens, to the Starburst logo that refused to fit neatly into a square, this episode will change how you think about marketing, sales, and standing out in 2026. If your brand feels invisible, your messaging feels safe, or your team feels stuck playing by the rules everyone else is playing by, this conversation will give you permission to break free.

In this episode, Udi Ledergor, Chief Evangelist at Gong and author of Courageous Marketing, explains why bold creativity is essential for startups competing in crowded B2B markets. Udi shares the principle behind Gong's rise from zero to hundreds of millions in revenue: “different is better than better.” From fuchsia branding and a bulldog mascot to running Super Bowl ads as a startup, he shows how courageous marketing helps companies punch above their weight.
Renegade Thinkers Unite: #2 Podcast for CMOs & B2B Marketers
Nine years in. 500 episodes later. Hundreds of CMOs on the mic. A deep well of marketing wisdom for anyone brave enough to draw from it. This milestone episode is a celebration of the bold B2B ideas, experiments, and hard-earned lessons that have filled the show from day one. Thank-you to every marketer who has listened, shared, and dared to try something new because of what they heard here. Recorded live at the 2025 Super Huddle, Drew's conversations with Udi Ledergor, Denise Persson and Chris Degnan, and Carilu Dietrich anchor this milestone episode. In this episode: Udi shares how Gong pulled off a Super Bowl spot on a regional budget, aimed it at VPs of Sales, and tracked impact in traffic, conversations, and pipeline. Denise and Chris explain how a CMO and CRO stayed aligned through four CEOs at Snowflake and evolved the story from "cloud data warehouse" to "data cloud," all in lockstep. Carilu shows how Lovable is building a movement with real users as influencers, a CEO who lives on social, and a speed-first mindset tuned to the pace of AI and customer buzz. Plus: Why a "crazy ideas" budget creates room for standout plays that still satisfy the CFO How empathy for sales and shared ownership of the number strengthen CRO-CMO alignment How CEO-led social, customer stories, and edutainment power modern B2B brands What it takes to move at AI speed while keeping product value and customer love at the center If you want a concentrated hit of CMO-level courage, alignment, and playmaking, this milestone episode is your highlight reel.

This episode tackles the complex challenge of applying the hardware-centric clauses of ISO 13485 to Software as a Medical Device (SaMD). Adnan Ashfaq, founder of Simply Medica, joins Etienne Nichols to dissect how traditional standards intended for physical manufacturing must be creatively interpreted for the virtual world of software development, where apps update weekly and cloud-based systems evolve in real-time. The conversation zeroes in on the often-muddy areas of production and service provision (Clause 7.5), emphasizing that these clauses are far from non-applicable, requiring a "virtual manufacturing space" mindset.A significant focus is placed on the Software of Unknown Provenance (SOUP), treating these building blocks as purchased components that require robust supplier evaluation and validation, bridging Clause 7.5 (production) with Clause 7.4 (purchasing). The discussion extends to crucial concepts like the Software Bill of Materials (SBoM), the complexity of Agile vs. Waterfall approaches within the standard's framework, and the essential role of the new FDA Computer Software Assurance (CSA) guidance in risk assessment.Beyond production, the experts explore the application of resource management (Clause 6), specifically addressing infrastructure, contamination control (malware/ransomware), and the critical need for a well-documented Design Transfer to Production (Clause 7.3.8) evidenced by a complete software release package, including all 62304 requirements. The episode provides actionable insights for quality and compliance professionals struggling to maintain speed and innovation while strictly adhering to regulatory requirements.Key Timestamps01:45 - The changing landscape: Why traditional MedTech rules struggle with modern software updates.03:50 - Historical context of ISO 13485 and its non-distinction between hardware/software.05:05 - Starting Point: Clause 7.5 (Production and Service Provision) and the "Virtual Manufacturing Space" concept.06:20 - Unpacking Software of Unknown Provenance (SOUP) and its link to Clause 7.4 (Purchasing).08:35 - The necessity of validating the development environment (GitHub/GitLab) and building blocks.11:10 - Applying Clause 4.1.6 (Software Validation) to SOUP items and master validation plans.12:20 - Applicable vs. Non-Applicable Clauses: Sterilization/Cleanliness vs. Installation.13:55 - Clause 4.2.3 (Medical Device File) for SaMD: E-labels, UDI, System Architecture, and SBoM.16:30 - Cybersecurity controls and the manufacturer's responsibility for identifying state-of-the-art standards.17:35 - Defining "Production" for continuously updating software and managing significant vs. non-significant changes.20:15 - Clash of Standards: Agile development, ISO 13485, and the missing documentation for version control risk assessment.21:30 - Clause 6.3 & 6.4 (Resource & Work Environment): Looking at data security, access controls, and contamination (malware/ransomware).24:45 - Clause 7.3.8 (Design Transfer to Production): The need for a formal software release package and the importance of the Software Design Trace Matrix.26:00 - The 16 essential documents needed to meet IEC 62304 requirements.27:10 - Production controls when the user influences the outcome (customizable features,...

Renegade Thinkers Unite: #2 Podcast for CMOs & B2B Marketers
By the time you implement “best practices,” they've become boring practices, and B2B sure doesn't mean boring to business. In this episode, Drew talks with Udi Ledergor (Gong), author of Courageous Marketing, the book that challenges B2B marketers to stop playing it safe. Together, they explore what it means to lead with creativity, confidence, and courage. Udi also shares how Gong earned attention by building an audience that wanted to engage, not just be targeted. With every executive, from the CEO to the CFO, invested in the story, marketing became a company-wide advantage instead of a department. Three B2B Marketing Traps Udi Warns Against: Following industry best practices instead of breaking them Letting marketing own brand alone Hiring for experience over potential Plus: The punch-above-your-weight framework that makes a startup look enterprise-ready Why brand must be led by the CEO and modeled across the exec team How to hire for curiosity, learning speed, and potential How to sell the 95–5 content mindset to your CEO and CFO If you're done blending in, this conversation will remind you why courage still wins in B2B. Udi will be speaking at the CMO Super Huddle in Palo Alto on November 7th, 2025. All attendees will receive a complimentary copy of his book, Courageous Marketing, and can get it signed in the morning!
